Crowd of 8474 yesterday

Crowd of 8474 yesterday

people wont pay for shite , especially in these hard times, football is an entertainments business, unfortunately entertainment is very thin on the ground at deepdale. fact.

Entertainment?

This isn't the theatre or attending a gig y'know. Entertainment is guaranteed in these spheres.

Football is a gamble, you simply have no idea of the outcome nor the display about to be witnessed.

Crowd at Burnley yesterday - 11,576 against Birmingham - this for a team 4 points outside the championship play off positions - crowds are not great anywhere.

Preston is an apathetic City full of "fans" who claim to "support" PNE but only ever turn up if we draw a big team in the Cup. Usually against a team that they "support" via the TV.

As I posted, to much abuse a few months ago, we are a small club with a small support.

Wake up and accept this fact.

Too many fake wankers living in Preston who don't, and never ever will, give a shit about the club I love. The biggest moaners, and we all know them, about PNE are those who don't and have no intention ever of attending Deepdale no matter what Division we find ourselves in. Again, wankers the lot of them.

They probably still think that DS is still in charge and still use that excuse for not attending.

Finally, do you see rival football shirts being worn around the streets of Burnley, as a local example? Very very rarely in comparison to here in Preston.

Fair play to the loyal 8,000 who cheer and support the lads though lean and leaner times, stars the lot of you, you / we know who we all are.

PTID.

Spot on post! I think 8k is high though theres a lot more still to disappear until we go up a division. Their perogative as customers though. Why we will always be a small club.

I go to watch my club play, not to watch us win. Clearly winning makes it more enjoyable and is a rare bonus these days but I will always watch PNE when I can, regardless of our league position.

Oh do behave, people that accept small club status aspire to buggar all and that's why people wear other clubs shirts. The reason Burnley don't wear other shirts is they have no need to their club has been way more successful than us in recent years.

Wrong, all sport should be entertaining by its very nature if it wasn't people would not even do it let alone pay to watch it.

I've given up after Walsall. Even if I was dying to go on I don't think I could currently convince any of my north end supporting mates to go with me as they all despise the manager and the football. This from a group of six who, regardless of hangovers, never missed a home game a few years ago. Fair enough, all reports suggest we were better yesterday but this is historically our worst home form of all time. I don't think we can expect anything other than attendances that reflect that. This is a low.

Successful? Really? Where?

You are so far off the money it's untrue Joan.

Can you really say that we deserve the title of "Proud Preston" when people don't give a shit about the club?

In recent Championship Play Off seasons, our highest home average was a shoddy14,800 (around 13,500 was the average norm, even worse), given that Preston has a population, at the last recent census, of 132,000, that's a pathetic crowd average, in a higher division, when challenging on a regular basis for a crack at The Prem.

We should have been, as a proper "big - aye oreet!" - club, averaging around 18000 - 19000 when in the Top 5 on a consistent basis under DM and BD.

Too many wankers in Preston Joan. Stop living in denial. (not having a pop at you, just saying it as I have seen it all of my life living here).

Wrong (imo), it's all about winning, granted we are not very good at that lately.

Entertainment is a bonus. You'd rather be entertained with nice football but lose? At least you got your fix of "entertainment"!

I'd rather win.

The entertainment value of sport comes from being involved in it, sitting back just leaves it as eleven men running around somewhere near a ball.

As JD rightly says it is a gamble whether you will be treated to a purists entertainment, so I always try to make sure I get something by (maybe falsely) believing supporting can improve the outcome. I have tried sitting back and watching when I have been at non PNE games and football is not entertaining.

I stopped attending about 3 seasons ago when I could not justify paying £400+ on a season ticket and my stepsons wanted to attend as we'll.
I lost my faith about 4-5 seasons ago when I got angry with our expensive signings not giving a toss.
Once you get out of the habit it's difficult to come back. If we start winning and have a team of fighters then I and many others will start to come back and get back into the habit.
The football is dross at the moment but we have a team of fighters so we are half way there
I really want to come back but i need a team I can support without ruining my weekend for both me and my family.

I am older than you by a number of years and apart from 12 years in London have lived in Preston all my life having been born in Robin Street, Ribbleton almost 61 years ago. I can and will always say we deserve Proud Preston, member of the original football league, Sir Tom Finney voted best footballer ever, first winners of the double, winners of FA Cup without conceding a goal, still holding the record for the largest win in an FA cup round, first professional FC in the world, the list goes on. I am not in denial quite the contrary I am now and will always be very, very proud to be Prestonian.

Has it occurred to you it's attitudes like yours that take away from that. Nothing personal on you, I know you are a loyal fan that is not in dispute but for goodness sake if you have lost your way going forward then look back for the inspiration to carry on the proud heritage.

As for the dingles the boasted a place in the prem league not to long ago and are not too far from the play offs again. Premiership status is something we have never achieved and top flight has evaded us for more than half a century.

Yesterday in League 1 we drew to Coventry and I read comments like "it felt like a win" or, "I was proud we fought back to earn a draw" all excused by people like you because we have to accept we are only a small club. Is this what we have become? William Suddell would be proud, finding fault with each other rather than wondering how we let the club fall into such depths.

Joan - an epic DOH! on my part - I had completely forgot about Burnleys one season wonder in The Prem!

I'll give you that one! 😀

A post full of passion as always but the reason for low attendance is simple, lack of any real success over many years, whilst our nearest rivals have had brief stays in the top flight recently, we have not. Compared to those rivals we have gone the longest time without playing in the top division and our giant killing acts are as rare as hens teeth.Hence when things turn bad, relegation, it does not take long for support to fall away. Some on here posted that maybe relegation would not be such a bad thing, gross stupidity, relegation is always bad.We will be starting our third season at this level next season and unless things improve dramatically the attendance will continue to fall.
I was on the Rotherham game when we climbed out of this division many years ago, almost 28k on, not the crowd of a small club at this level but as I have said lack of any real success has and will take it's toll.

Exactly this. Nothing more nothing less.

I think I just prefer effort and directness to a lot of passes but going nowhere - which is what I tended to see when watching the allegedly more entertaining teams.

Then maybe I am watching the right sport, since PNE still entertain me when they apparently are not doing enough for those around me 🙂
