Between JD, 6pence and wicker basket we have established that there is no entertainment involved, no inspiration to make it any better and no aspirations to even want to make it better either. Dear oh dear oh dear. Then they wonder why people in Preston wear other clubs shirts and are apathetic towards the club! You couldn't make it up.
Crowd of 8474 yesterday
Some wonder how low our crowds can go and hence what our loyal core of support is. Well I was one of the 2000 that attended regularly when we ended up 91st out of 92 clubs. That does not make me better than others especially as many on here have the valid excuse of not being born then. Now in those days we were truly awful, having to pick a Fulwood Amateurs player (Mel Totoh) just to help fill in. The floodlights were condemned so we had to play 2pm kick offs. We were thrashed week after week and PNE didn't own the stadium so asset-wise we were skint.
We are nowhere near that yet so to use the word awful about present performances is going a little too far imo. Also, even when we were that bad we managed to turn things around soon after and gained promotion under John McGrath. My point is that even from that low ebb, if things can be turned round then ... they sure as hell can be turned round now!
So whilst keeping an eye on the situation also make sure you keep the faith!

With you on this Joan,if professional sport is not a form of entertainment, what is it?
I have been entertained by many matches not involving PNE, although obviously the feeling is much better when our club is involved.
They still managed what we did not. Mind I get the impression you enjoy pulling your fellow Prestonians apart, any excuse will do.
Only the non attending supporting other "teams" on TV wankers, Joan.

You really need to wake up and smell the coffee.
Amazed that you really cannot see the reality around Preston. Next time it's a sunny Summers day, count the footy shirts on view in the town centre. Then hit me back via a thread. You'll see that I'm reet.
Jeez!!!

In that I think you have the answer
It is an escapism and a chance to go back to tribalistic ways in an increasingly individualistic society.
Not everyone will see it like that, of course, but I think that is what football offers that music and other forms of entertainment do not.

You have established it because you are desperate to argue and that leap helps your argument.
The fact is I simply said that football has attractions that entertainments do not, and that those attractions remain even when your team is at their lowest.
Nothing to do with not wanting things to be better either, just getting better takes time and again entertainment is a judgement of the here and now.

Thanks Proton.
You can see the advert for the club with them 3 writing it:-
Pay us your money £20+, don't expect anything for it because we don't do entertainment, oh and we may be that poor you may be bored. Don't expect much because we are only small, don't show any pride because we don't deserve it, you can sing if you want but either way, you will be accused of not doing so. You will also be accused of total apathy in spite of all of this if you don't continue on this path every week of every season. Oh and it's cold too!
That should have them queuing down Deepdale Rod eh.🙄

Childish at best.
No one would go if that was the advert.

Don't be ridiculous I can see it, now look in the mirror tell yourself out loud this and you will see exactly the reason why.

No kidding!! But I see that you at least recognise football as a form of entertainment.

Mmmmmm read this thread and others you and JD have contributed to and it's exactly the advert you all present.

I just do not put much emphasis on passing it well, or pulling off tricks, which are the only things I have noted PNE doing worse this season compared to others. We have more shots on target this year than last - for example.
I just do not measure the experience on any of these metrics.

I don't think we've said that at all! Football is unique as a business, if I didn't like the service I got at a shop or company then I would go elsewhere. This is not the case when supporting your football team. We are effectively stuck with it! We all have our stories of how we became fans and we all have the desire to see PNE succeed and do well.
Recent times have been tough and PNE have been consistently poor for the last few seasons. It is tough as fans but I watch my beloved football club play, I don't expect us to win and perform every week. If people want entertainment then they should watch United and Barcelona on the TV. We should strive for success and a great example to use is Swansea. Not so long ago they were well below us in the football pyramid but now they find themselves competing against the big boys in the Premier league.
I want us to do well and succeed, but when we don't, I do not stop my support. I go on regardless and to support the lads. How many times do we sell out when we get Chelsea in the FA cup?
This is the point JD is making, people turn up when we get the big team or the second we start getting success. Without those that went on in the dark days, would we exist now? Of course not and it's those people that go on through thick and thin that allow the "bandwagon jumpers" to watch when we get success, as without them the club wouldn't be here.
The club needs to do more to encourage fans to want to watch Preston. People are lazy and like routine and it is very easy to not go to Deepdale on a Saturday when things go pear shaped. Once these people stop going, how do you encourage them to return? Winning is one way but not every side can win the league, even when we were reasonably successful in the Championship we still averaged some of the lowest gates in the division. The club is amateur from top to bottom currently and has allowed itself to lose touch with the fan base.
There are plenty of reasons why people don't turn up. Not a problem. My problem is those that don't turn up when they can because they don't like the manager or the football on show. If you want good football then get Sky and watch La Liga! These are the people who come on here and slag the club and its supporters off for supporting the team when they don't attend themselves.
Get behind the team if you can, they need you.

I thought what we were presenting was the image of a club together fighting to do better in spite of difficult conditions - where the supporters matter and the spirit will drive us forward not money and the less desirable side of the game it entails.
Joan, do you think that PNE, in the grand scheme of things, are a big club.
Please provide evidence that relates to reality and does not involve the words "Finney", "Double" or "Invincibles" as they count for nothing today as it stands, grand history as it is. If they counted for anything, then Hemmings would have sold up ages ago to some nostalgic romantic!
If we are talking within the realms of the 92 League Clubs, then I would put us at about 55th - 60th at best given our size, support and financial stability.
Over to you.

Well what "metrics" do you use to measure your "experience"?

You may well not have meant it, but you wrote it. Your post reads like you will accept any tripe because it matters not a jot whether we win, lose or draw or even if we bothered.
As for your last paragraph, I rest my case.
Exactly fella (to Wickerbasket), both Manchester CITY and Norwich CITY were relegated (amongst others like Forest and Leicester) to this League and maintained their crowds yet this "CITY" is totaly apathetic. The aforementioned have had more success in recent times prior to relegation so therefore, there should have been more uproar and discontent amongst their support but guess what?, they carried on supporting their team and all are now in a stronger position in a higher, sometimes to 2 division league. Meanwhile, us lot...
In truth, this CITY does not deserve a club.

Yes it is.
To be honest you are doing a poor job if you really believe your second paragraph. The fact you preach it too less each home game should be the clue there.
