Daniel Iversen's form

Daniel Iversen's form

We saw the best and the worst from Iversen yesterday. Made some excellent saves, which I don't believe many others in our league would have saved.

But his distribution was mostly really poor. Like it or not but we're going to be a really hard working side (hopefully) where we're not reliant on having plenty possession of the ball. At times it really won't be a pretty watch. But when we do have the ball, we can't have Iversen constantly hitting direct balls straight to the opposition or out of play. It's an area that needs improving.
He's obviously kicking more now as we aren't building from the back as we were but I agree, if we're going to play a longer game, he definitely needs to improve.

Probably an unjustified excuse but maybe the conditions yesterday didn't help as the West Brom keeper's kicks weren't great either.

I think the problem is that PNE fans believed that he was something that he wasn't (this happens a lot!)

Because he's been good for us (it's a low bar when it comes to permanent keepers) they thought he was the new Peter Schmeichel and destined to turn into the best goalkeeper on planet earth.

He's lower Championship level, sometimes better than that, sometimes worse.

We ain't getting anyone better though, so its pointless worrying.
I strongly disagree. Iversen’s poor form has been since he returned from a serious leg injury. It clearly continuous to have an impact.

Iversen’s kicking has now become a weird fixation like Heckingbottom’s subs did.

Yeah, a few in the first half didn’t quite come off, but I’m not sure what people expect. These are 70 yard kicks, in awful conditions. He’s obviously not Ederson is he, and whilst his ability with his feet is at the lower end of the division, he’s made up for that over the years by winning us points.

People convince themselves something is true, so fixate on it when watching. Instead of seeing a perfectly normal distribution of accuracy in long goal kicks, they convince themselves that every time one goes askew that it further proves their point.

His long kicking is appalling whether it's windy or not. It's just something we have to accept. We don't have a targetman anyway, but ideally we wouldn't just hand it back to the opposition keeper time after time.

Grezza doesn’t seem to be overly keen on his kicking judging by his reactions to most of them on the sidelines.

I agree

Proper weird behaviour

Made 2 class saves but his kicking wasn’t the best🙄

It’s pretty laughable
He's also terrible at commanding his area to be fair. You need more than reaction stopping from a Championship keeper.

I'll tell you what's weird.

Worst team in the league. Joint worst goals conceded in the league. No clean sheets in 27 games. Yet, people won't hear a bad word said about this goalkeeper.

I’ve been critical of him.

Yesterday I thought he was decent

Confirmation bias is huge in all aspects of life, but never more so in football. Our preconceptions taint all neutrality when watching the game and objectively we don’t see reality, but see what we assume will be the reality.

BBC stats have his pass accuracy at 26% which is dreadful considering he did play some short passes to Vuk and other defenders. It was noticeable that WBA put him under pressure to kick long because they knew they were likely to regain possession straight away.

Noticeable that the thread's suddenly gone quiet following this statement of fact.

All goalkeepers make good saves occasionally, the ones who stand out and progress are the ones who are consistent with it and distribute well.

Daniel is neither of those, sadly.

Statement of fact, slightly pushing it. Only played it out once, on the stat sheet. Everything else was long. Which you don't expect to be at a high accuracy, you're sending it up for a contested ball the majority of the time.

So when you compare apples to apples, Iversen's 24% accuracy vs Max O'Leary's 26% accuracy in the same conditions is hardly damning, is it?

I was at Wrexham away, his kicking was miles worse in that game. We are allowed to be critical over obvious faults of one of our players.

And you're right, over the years he has won us points. But I'd argue this season he hasn't, until yesterday. Which is why his distribution this season has been more scrutinised.

Yeah. No need to argue about that. You’d be correct.

But it gets to the point where if any of his kicks aren’t completely perfect then he’s just jumped on. Happened to Rudd and Woodman too.

Woodman's form collapsed because he was getting jeered by his own fans before taking any kicks.

That’s been a thing from some of our braindead fans that are on the keepers back to launch it the very second they have it in their hands.

To say this was Woodmans downfall though is pure speculation

Wasn’t it rumoured that he had a bit going on with his personal life🤔
