Drinking in the stands

Drinking in the stands

This will never happen. There are many reasons why it’s a bad idea and the phase that sums it up is public order.

The demographic inside a football stadium is very diverse now and the majority would suffer if this was allowed. Alcohol is the main component in 90% of offences in the ground. It only takes a small minority to cause significant issues in a crowd which is difficult to mitigate and control.

It’s a very blinkered view to think this will be a positive, because it won’t be.

You got anything concrete to back that up or is it a wild generalization?

I liked the picture on the BBC article with a Wrexham fan holding a pint at Charlton so the pint cannot see the game. I assume he just moved to the other side of the wall. Sadly, they seem to have removed the image from the article now.

At Ninnian Park you could see through some gaps from the bar area.

I am not sure whether beer at the game would be that great. I like the idea that you do not need to rush your pint, but it is almost inevitable that idiots would spoil it.

Maybe this allows us to push up the price of the executive boxes since you would not need the curtains. People could just drink happily in the box and not worry anyone else.

Introduce safe standing and the drinkers will be in there in the main I would suspect. Problem of having to stand up for someone to get a pint is eradicated.

I’ve been to loads of rugby games. If you need to go for a pint or a piss everyone is polite to each other and it all happens with no problems. The problem with our sport is that too many knobs have watched Green Street.

watching on from afar most other nations allow it ,so the position of those against this is ,we cant be trusted unlike the majority of the world population attending sport grounds as were english / uk football fans, & love been treated totally differently to everyone else across the globe attending sporting events, thats the position you are know arguing

I found the image from the BBC site, for some reason the GETTY tag is not appearing. Link to the article is LINK

Once went to watch PNE at Norwich with a Luton fan and some other guy.

Can’t remember who he was now but pretty sure he was from abroad.

Anyway, we’d had a good day and one or two at ground.

Sat down for kick off and noticed this bloke was happily working away at his pint.

He’d no idea alcohol was banned and just waltzed in with it.

How we laughed.

One of those 'you had to be there' anecdotes.

Pre match alcohol is the issue, folk pissed at 14:30 on a Saturday, I'd quite like to sit with a beer and watch the match as its the only one I'd have. Why is it ok to drink in the stands watching rugby or cricket but not football?

Or merely that there was a "petition" and as per the rules it needs to be discussed in Parliament...

I'm for it. BUT stand next to me with a pint and you will be told that if one drop lands on me, you will need your dentist on speed dial.
Thats a bit ott, chill out man ffs!

The percentage might not be 90 but it will be very close and it’s an opinion based on experience. You’d be surprised what stupidity it can cause.

What, because a person assaults me by throwing a drink over me?

Fuck off. Ruin the clothes I have worked damned hard to buy then you will be on the receiving end of my frustration.
You're getting irate over something that hasn't even happened. Your anger changed the scenario from someone innocently dropping a pint on you to throwing one over you. How often does it happen in a pub?
