Gentry Day 2013 - Brentford (a) 16th March

Oh yes but you may not recognise us.
6.58?

My carriage is the 6.58 departure from Preston.

I will certainly be on the look out for other posh people, if only to give that knowing wink and respectful nod.

Any others and I probably won't even look up from The Times!

Coming back maybe a different matter as by then I could very well have consumed some 'social nectar' !

Suited and booted?

I saw quite a few in suits at Sheff Wed last season so think I might well do the same.

Just need to make sure I have my copy of the financial times handy for the full on Gentry Look.

The man who started it all at the bottom left.

Chippy Clark, John Bird (bearded) Alan Spavin (top right) Ricky Heppolite, Alan Kelly a fresh faced Brucie plus ?

Ricky Heppolette - maybe it is John Bird, the other goalkeeper is presumably Gerry Stewart. As for the other player at the front I have a feeling this pic is our first back in the old Division 2 after Alan Ball Snr got us promoted and that it is new signing Hugh McIlmoyle, but I may be wrong.

No its not my dad ( Gerry Stewart) So could it be either John Brown or Jim Blyth?

I defer to your obviously superior knowledge in this case. The only reserve keeper I can honestly say I would recognise from the time I started supporting the team - effectively the Cup Final season - to the time Kelly was forced to retire would be John Barton. Alan Kelly was pretty well an ever present for nearly a decade - bar the odd injury and actually being dropped once in the later 60s, he could be guilty of the odd mishap - and all our other keepers lived in his shadow. Alan Spavin, of course, lasted even longer than Alan Kelly - great player that Kelly was and thoroughly deserving of having part of the ground named after him you do have to ask why Alan Spavin has not had such an honour.

Simon Grayson on Gentry Day.

The trip to Brentford has been named Gentry Day by the North End fans, an annual event which sees suits and bowler hats make an appearance amongst the Lilywhites faithful, an event which Simon is fully supportive of.

“I have been aware of it and what it is all about and it is a great idea,” said the gaffer.

“I will be turning up in my suit as I do every Saturday but I don’t think I’ll be having a bowler hat!

“But it just shows you what it is all about this football club.

“It is something which goes back to many years ago and I’m sure there will be a good turnout of them all.

“It is great that people have kept with that tradition and history.”

Tickets are still on sale for Gentry Day in Brentford, so get yours now to support Simon and the boys.
