Gentry Day 2018 - You Decide - Voting Closed

Oh well, be careful what you wish for.......... I have just been on the virgin trains website looking for train prices to London on April 14th ( QPR game )

Unfortunately, there doesnt appear to be any special offers...... The return price from Manchester to London is £87 !!

Which if the case is my concern around QPR, Fulham etc
Ticket to Manchester £12
Manchester to London £90
London transport £8
Food and drink £20 to £50
= A very expensive day out for many and possibly not accessible to all

I understand it’s about priorities but it’s also about inclusion?

It's 13 weeks until the QPR game so the "cheap" offers don't get released until next week, might be Monday 22nd. Also, many fans who regular go away by train have a railcard so they get a 1/3 off that price anyway. And don't forget the 20% off offer with the deal between Virgin and Preston NE. Taking all that into consideration, the average person will probably get their train ticket for less than £60 - some might get it for £30 if they book at the right time.

That’s right pip...my return manchester to euston for the Brentford game cost about £35 with the 20% discount. Need to wait for the “Advance” fares to be released I think

Going back to the pic at Brighton - Dave Hakin bottom right - can't believe it's 5 years this July since he passed away- R.I.P.

Some right bloody numptys on that Facebook forum. I thought that is place was bad for infighting!!!

Someone seems to think that Bolton is winning it.
I voted for Bolton.
Easy to get to and very little travel expense therefore does not exclude those who struggle financially.
local Derby.
decent stadium.
No need to worry about the standard/choice of pubs for those who want a beer as they can sup in Preston or Chorley etc if need be in pubs that they probably already know and in which they will be welcome.

Bolton is the one place I definitely disagree with as a location for Gentry Day. Part of the whole day is the going away bit and it being an event. If folk wanted to drink in Preston and go to a game, then it might as well be a home game.

not sure the fascination of 'having to find pubs' when the day is about remembering past fans - many of whom probs never went to pubs at away matches !

What is best for 'watching the game' and the 'experience'?

I chose Stadium of Light as I've never been, Bolton too close; QPR too expensive... Sheff u would be fine....

Just checked and they're now on sale....£46 return from Piccadilly so £36.80 with 20% discount🙂

Sunderland is my birthday weekend but I still prefer QPR. I can recall 2 good gentry days there in the past and another was Brentford you just can’t beat London gentry days in my vie2.

Well I know that John tracey did, the one whos death started all this. We were regular visitors to pubs on our travels. In fact a crafty Beer was part of the day for us, then, under age lads. 🙂

Half Price on the train and then the pub ha.

Yes, I'm personally not fussed about the availability of pubs either, but I do appreciate that plenty of fans might want to use the occasion to raise a glass to a dearly departed.
