Giving up the gambling

Thought it good idea to update

have done great with cutting out the online betting,

do go on Bet365 to watch their version of North End matches but havent attempted to log in anywhere

did carry on going in the shops though

have had some success recently so am in profit for the last few months

so took a box of quality street into local shop and said "merry christmas, take care, not planning on coming in as often from now on"

that was two days ago and am going to try and stick to it

will be weird but am up for it, having said it on here albeit anonymously and then in the shop I cant make a dick of myself

cant cut out going in the shop completely as we cadge their old racing posts for soggy wellies/boots/school shoes/tortoises/gardening and compost heap.

Thanks again for all help and support from last time x

Nice to hear from you Kenny. Well done on the good progress, sounds like you are in a much better place. Keep safe and have a great Christmas and New Year

I like a bet on the football and I always have from being 17 years old. ( 48 years ago )

I guess that I’m lucky because the most I have ever bet on a Saturday is about £3 …..

I like doing lots of 50p bets , so I get the thrill of betting, without putting myself into financial strife..
On the downside it means that when I do win, I only win small

Going cold turkey can work for some people, but it’s not the only way — and for a lot of people it’s actually harder to sustain without support.
The biggest thing is putting barriers in place: blocking gambling sites, limiting access to money, and removing triggers as much as possible. Willpower alone usually isn’t enough long-term.
You might also want to look into support groups (like Gamblers Anonymous) or even just talking to someone about it — having accountability makes a big difference.

The fact you’ve already been off cigarettes for years shows you can break habits, so you’ve definitely got that in you.
