Have we Improved under Heckingbottom/Hecky Out.

Personally given the players inherited I think Paul’s doing a good job , you can see from the jan transfers he is trying to bolster the back to get us through the season and honesty I’ve enjoyed seeing the team pushing forward. 25/26 will be the season we find out his worth and the board’s commitment to pushing for play off position

Our board is about as committed to pushing for a playoff position as the average Brit is committed to doing Dry January

If we had won today....

Would this post even exist?

We drew with a good team away from home, still within 10points of the playoffs and we can still finish in the top half with a good run.

Yes we have improved and will continue to improve. Some people really don't understand that we are not a big club, we are not even a big city and our fan base is good but not fantastic.

We do need to improve our marketing and c

We didn't draw to a good team, they were in the bottom fucking 3 ffs!!!!

For me the answer is easily yes. We were in relegation form before he joined (I'm factoring in last season in that) and he's managed to stabilise us. He's doing a good job.

Are we moving beyond our standard midtable position? Not currently no but I'm not sure people should be expecting more after just 5 months considering:
  • The quality of our squad
  • The waste in the budget with the Okkels transfer
  • The lack of a pre-season with Heckingbottom (especially considering how unfit the squad looked under Lowe)
  • The lack of time in the summer for Heckingbottom to make transfers (just 10 days)
I genuinely believe that you could probably count on one hand the number of managers in the world who are capable of working miracles having been dealt that hand and none of them would join us.

If the question was "are we more entertaining under Heckingbottom?" then I'd have to agree that the football is dull but I don't really think we have a squad capable of playing entertaining and successful football. The very fact that people are mostly bringing up the entertainment value as the main criticism of Heckingbottom shows that he's done a good job stabilising us because otherwise we'd all be complaining that we're heading to relegation.

I get that it's dull to watch but there's so many reasons why I've basically written off this season from the getgo. My expectations are so low all because the owners and director messed things up from the very beginning. I was expecting a relegation battle with a midtable finish being the best we could achieve. They should've sacked Lowe at the end of last season, they shouldn't have wasted our budget on a player we couldn't use, they shouldn't keep a hold of a director whose approach to work is stuck in the last century. I have to admit, this season has made me appreciate that Lowe wasn't quite doing as bad a job as I previously thought (although I still think he had a fair bit of luck go his way and I do think he would've seen us relegated this season). The problem is Ridsdale and the Hemmings family and it will always be them just as long as they persist with a club structure that wastes money, builds each transfer policy exclusively around the current manager, keeps a hold of players that tactically limit us, and fails to make any money.

Ultimately, I just don't agree with focusing our discussions on the manager when the problem is above him. I do think Lowe had to go as Lowe's biggest problem was his abrasive personality and Heckingbottom doesn't have that. Lowe also had been here for a few years and Heckingbottom hasn't even been here for half a year yet. I can stomach the poor football with Heckingbottom as manager because I don't believe he has been given the opportunity to show everything he is capable of. I know it's a bit of a cliche but football fans are fickle and impatient. Even if we weren't run in such a poor way and Heckingbottom had us sat where we are, I'd still be expecting some patience towards him from the fans. The only way to see a dramatic improvement from his starting position to now would be if we had boatloads of cash to spend which we don't. The only way we'd have boatloads of cash to spend would be if we did it the Brentford way, but if we did it the Brentford way we wouldn't have the squad we'd have, so we wouldn't have been in the exact same position anyway.

I think the negative feeling towards Heckingbottom is just a consequence of the negative mood around the club generally because of the failure of our owners to progress the club. There's easy solutions to this but the Hemmings family seem to find it inconceivable that the club management structure needs shaking up.

Are these any different buzzwords / phrases? I'm sure that Lowe uttered the exact same or similar words to those below of Hecky.

Lowe - The Brand.

Hecky - I don't want to be bored on the sidelines.

One thing that is undisputable is that both have, when fit, their favourites no matter what.

I'm on Day 19 of my 1st ever attempt at Dry January.

Lost between 2 - 3kg to date. Around 6lbs

Given I'd have around 3 or 4 bottles of beer every day after work and more at the weekend, I've found it to be a surprisingly absolute doddle. Schweppes Lemonade, Coffee, Orange Fanta and Lemon Fanta have been my go too's. 👍

My last drop of ale was from a can of Stella at 1800 on NYE. I started "going dry" 6 hours early, 😂

Friday 31st is gonna be tricky but I have a plan. Record the game, phone on silent, avoid this place and watch Netflix until midnight. 😆

I now do it each year. First year it was more difficult but I was relieved to learn that drinking for me was more of a habit than a dependency. Easy to say but, in truth, unless you try you don’t know!

It turns out that I like beer and wine for the sake of drinking nice beer and nice wine and I’ve found there some very decent non alcoholic beers out there which fulfill that “just have a drink with tea” need very nicely.

Last season we were 2nd bottom for xG and for big chances created. Only saved from being bottom by one of the poorest teams to have graced the Championship in a number of years. So I think it's quite the sort term memory for people to think that nothing has changed and we're still just as boring as we were.

Performances were arguably better earlier in the season, however the results weren't there. We were leaking goals and throwing away big leads. People were worried due to that, we'd get relegated.

I think it's a case the tactics are going to change to try be more difficult to play against away from home, and limit chances as much as possible. As our home record is slap bang in mid table. So trying to be difficult to beat away from home to pick up what points we can, as we've got one of the worst away records, and carry on with getting the better results at home. It's not entertaining, but people wanted results.

Hopefully this will change once he's had a summer pre-season and summer window and will revert back to previous tactics, but with more of the players he wants, and won't be a permanent way of playing in the long term.

I've seen positives and negatives. We are definitely trying to play better football than under Lowe. I will him this time next year when he's had a summer window and a full pre season.

I’ve watched better performances and I’ve watched more of the same.

I’ve always looked at this season as a free pass for PH as he gets the chance to cut the deadwood and build his team.

If he has agreed to extensions for all of Storey, Hughes and Lindsay coupled with the ultra defensive slop on display yesterday its fair to question what progress we can possibly make.

It reminds me of the Eustace situation at Rovers last season.

He did what he had to do to grind out results and keep them up.

Wasn’t too long before the plastic fans were giving him grief, but over the summer he sorted it out and has played with a totally different style this season.

Hopefully PH is just doing the same with us and (although few are willing to acknowledge it) keeping us up is the only priority.

Then he’ll properly reshape the squad in the summer.

The difference is Rovers tend to back their manager (and had the Wharton cash).

We’ve got the Hemmings/IoM/Ridsdale shitshow and no sign of it changing any time soon.

And the biggest problem of those three is Ridsdale, setting the tone of incompetent, lazy mediocrity.

Every. Single. Year. 🙁

Until Ridsdale goes, any manager is only ever treating the symptoms at North End, not the cause.

I think we will see a very big improvement when we start playing with attacking wing backs on both sides. They say attack is the best form of defence and that’s what I’m hoping for…..it’s sounds like a happy dream.

After Luton away, we can see PH is perfectly capable of playing a fast attacking wingback in a purely negative and defensive role.

I think we can expect more of the same, with their pace used primarily to help us recover from defensive fuckups.

The fact Lowe thought this squad was well balanced and Hecky doesn't is instant improvement.

Of course Hecky is going to say he's pleased we have got barely any points on the road - he's only boosting the confidence of the players.

I take it those who believe his words about being pleased also believe he wants to keep Bowler.
But then we have people telling us it's the manager identifying players that he wants that Peter goes out and gets.

So if that's the case hecky did want him in.

Not a Lowe fan but I doubt he really thought thr squad was balanced, he was just very much a yes man for Peter and accepted the recruitment knowing he isn’t getting a better job anytime soon.

He quickly realised after one game it was going to be a struggle this season with the squad assembled and thought it was better to walk.
