Heckingbottom

Think we can all agree on that. A DoF would be someone with a football background who would come and and go we are playing 4-2-3-1 and bring a manager in who excels with that formation and hence buy players to feed that system. If said manager isn’t good enough you get rid and bring someone else in and not have to rip everything up and start again

I've always said this. For a club our size it works so well if the right guy is brought in. Get heavy data analysts next to them and you are onto a winner.

Everyone laughs at Watford for hiring and firing...is their transfer business and squad better than ours? Are we doing any better letting managers run us into the ground through MRKTS or now just 'I like Lang, sign him or I'll kick off' style strategies? Is sticking with managers helping us? Get a better DOF and then hire and fire.

Their game away at Wrexham on Tuesday will probably go a long way in deciding whether they can make the play offs, here's hoping they turn Wrexham over.
Southampton on paper only have one difficult game in their run in, against Ipswich. Whereas Wrexham have to play Coventry and Boro in their last two games.
I would prefer Southampton to get into the Play offs rather than Wrexham…

Given it was Ridsdale who signed Okkels and wasted £1.7m I wouldn’t want him anywhere near our signings.
To be fair to him it wasn’t. Okkels was highlighted by lowe’s scouting team. The issue was when lowe left we should have cancelled the deal but still went ahead with it.

Apart from the transfer window 21-22 ridsdale hasn’t chosen or signed any players. What he does or has failed to do is move players on when needed

Yet Lowe had left before Okkels was signed. He may have been highlighted by Lowe’s scouting team but he was signed by PR rather than cancel the signing so he wouldn’t be embarrassed

It always goes back to the age old manager Vs director of football argument. With manager life spans at clubs around a season, why on earth enable the manager to sign a 27 year old crock? Is that beneficial to PNE years after Heck gets potted?

Wallace/the recruitment team and Heck shouldn't be a simple agreement process. There should be friction there. Some managers tend to see their time at clubs as short and show self protectionism in the transfer market. With Lang, that's seemingly what Heck has done (whilst also ignoring his injury history)

I would expect Ridsdale and Wallace to question/veto that transfer as not in the long term interest of PNE. I don't know why football fans are so against the manager not being backed IF it's detrimental to PNE.

I think many fans model their clubs mentally on Man U under Fergie. Those days are long gone. If you don't have a genius at the helm who can seemingly see 70% of how things are going to go (and trust me, we don't), you make the transfers a lot more of a one man process.
Quite right and this is where the current structure isn’t quite right. No DoF and PR who thinks he can spot a player but without any background in footie (I’m not saying though this automatically gives you the special knowledge) but the manager has final say. Of course the manager is more motivated to go for the short term option. Under a more modern hierarchy you’d have a way of playing throughout the club with a DoF and recruit to suit this with the manager with a say of course but more of a coach.

Or you could become a bit like a Crewe used to be at this level and make the manager's target not just somewhere between 10-17th which realistically is where PNE will always be at BUT make the bringing on of young players into the first team a huge priority for the club.

Most PNE fans I know would get behind that. It would be a damn sight easier to stomach a mid table finish if you are bringing on Moran, Offiah and Small plus 5 or 6 others under 23. We would feel like we are going places, making big profits or developing a younger side that will improve massively

Alex Neil saw his three best players sold for about 1m combined, and their replacements were a useless journeyman on loan, a midfielder on loan he didn’t really want, and nobody. He was then allowed to bring in two first time loans and two more journeymen on frees for his survival bid.

Heckingbottom was allowed to sell two players he didn’t use and then reinvest every penny into two players he’d been chasing since the summer.

The two are not comparable
and what have we seen of lang?

Exactly this.

I’m not defending these owners. I want them to leave.

But they are so much better than Trevor ever was in the fact that when we sell players the manager is allowed to reinvest the money.

The Jan window wasn’t great but the manager still managed to bring in his top target.
People moan about us playing a back three of Lindsay, Hughes and storey yet on the bench on Friday we had offiah and Gibson (two players that cost over a million.)

Hecky has managed to revamp this squad so ‘he shouldn’t be blamed because he hasn’t been backed’ is just nonsense. He has been backed.
and all 3 need to be moved on at the end of the season. Too slow for this league

Can’t understand anyone advocating him to stay on with a takeover.

Awful tactics, persists with the same turgid formation, makes the same predictable subs at the same predicable times, can’t motivate any sort of urgency or effort. Starts a CB at RWB and subs him off instead of the CB that continually hinders our attacking play and leaves us vulnerable at the back. People will point to individuals throwing away 4 points but the fact is we deserved to lose both of them.

Why keep a manager that needs a 40m godsquad to succeed rather than get a tactically astute one that can build something

Surprised to hear no 'sacked in the morning' chants. He's not repairing his relationship with the home fans at this point.

Couldn’t care less if he goes now.

Throwing Offiah under the bus yet again by starting him at RWB when he’s been class when played at right sided centre half all season is criminal.

So slow and negative, the football is just as bad if not worse than what Lowe was producing and that’s saying something.

I don't understand why he tries to soak up pressure and grind out 1-0s with players who have no bollocks or brains, and constantly make simple mistakes.

Just take a defender off and go for the second. A 1 goal lead is never good enough with this defence.
Nah, he's more concerned about takin players off that carry a threat to do that

I’ve said many times this season that just whacking the ball away when under no pressure is a nonsensical tactic. Obviously it should only lead to a throw in or losing the ball and not what happened today but we’ve done it game after game after game.

The referee was excellent today but he still found several occasions to have his usual rant, one in particular when Devine was fouled and advantage was played showing a lack of awareness of what had happened.

The stats are showing two on target yet we apparently played well. For the xG boys, ours was 0.62.
