Heckingbottom

Alex Neil saw his three best players sold for about 1m combined, and their replacements were a useless journeyman on loan, a midfielder on loan he didn’t really want, and nobody. He was then allowed to bring in two first time loans and two more journeymen on frees for his survival bid.

Heckingbottom was allowed to sell two players he didn’t use and then reinvest every penny into two players he’d been chasing since the summer.

The two are not comparable
Exactly this.

I’m not defending these owners. I want them to leave.

But they are so much better than Trevor ever was in the fact that when we sell players the manager is allowed to reinvest the money.

The Jan window wasn’t great but the manager still managed to bring in his top target.
People moan about us playing a back three of Lindsay, Hughes and storey yet on the bench on Friday we had offiah and Gibson (two players that cost over a million.)

Hecky has managed to revamp this squad so ‘he shouldn’t be blamed because he hasn’t been backed’ is just nonsense. He has been backed.

I'm genuinely indifferent to him going. I think we will struggle to attract his pedigree but I don't particularly like him or his style.

Hate the endless rotation. Hate the tiffs with players too. Small showed against Leicester he should be starting every game now to prep him for next season. I would actually play him 90 mins to build up his conditioning now with nothing to play for.

Like I say, would have no emotional reaction to him going or staying. He isn't the main problem but at the same time he ain't that good.
Totally ageee about Small but i would also have Offiah starting every game to get him ready as well .Do we need to keep seeing Storey and Lindsay chugging about in defence for the rest of this season now we seem to be safe .

8pts from the final games should be the bare minimum really, putting us on 61pts, which is a decent season, everything considered. But I'm more bothered about us trying to evolve our play and having more control in games

A midfield of Whiteman, Devine, and Moran, with Dobbin & Osmajic in front is more than enough to play on the front foot and dominate periods of the game against the likes of QPR and Charlton.

No pressure now, drop the safety first approach. Drop fucking Lindsay while you're at it.
We won't be getting any points from our last game that's for sure.
Having watched Southampton quite a few times (TV) going back a couple of months, and after watching them beat Arsenal last night, I expect a battering!

Them Southhampton fans giving the old "shouldn't be getting beat by a shit club like Preston" should be thanking us now, we got rid of their old manager early enough for their ne guy to transform them and they could even win the play offs because of us. 🤣

They would be my bet to win the playoffs but what do I know.

I’m not disagreeing with everything you say OB1 as PH isn’t blameless at all. However, during the summer transfer window when PH was lining up a striker to sign our owners withdrew what was left of the transfer budget. Also, it was stated recently that this season we have a bottom three Championship budget - I cannot remember what it was during AN’s final season with us.
Since AN left us things in the Championship have changed, wages are higher, the cost of good players have risen, the gap between club’s budgets in the Championship are a lot different and some would argue it is harder to get in the play-off places for end of the season. Just look at Norwich, Leicester, Bristol City, Sheffield United, WBA, Southampton and how they have struggled even though they have had money to spend and you would expect to do a lot better. Yet, on the revers, there is Millwall, Hull, Coventry, Derby who at the start of the season we might have expected to struggle a lot more than they have.
At the end of AN’s time as manager I believe he got so frustrated by being messed about by the owners he lost all interest knowing that he couldn’t succeed here and I believe to some degree it is the same with PH.

I think it all depends on whether Southampton are guaranteed a play-off place when we play them

And look at the mega £millions those sales brought in. And as for PH being able to sign his top target, I bet if he’d have been given more budget his top target would have been someone a lot better than Lang. I must admit I was very disappointed with this signing and would have much preferred this money went towards signing Devine, which I stated at the time.

Their game away at Wrexham on Tuesday will probably go a long way in deciding whether they can make the play offs, here's hoping they turn Wrexham over.
Southampton on paper only have one difficult game in their run in, against Ipswich. Whereas Wrexham have to play Coventry and Boro in their last two games.

It always goes back to the age old manager Vs director of football argument. With manager life spans at clubs around a season, why on earth enable the manager to sign a 27 year old crock? Is that beneficial to PNE years after Heck gets potted?

Wallace/the recruitment team and Heck shouldn't be a simple agreement process. There should be friction there. Some managers tend to see their time at clubs as short and show self protectionism in the transfer market. With Lang, that's seemingly what Heck has done (whilst also ignoring his injury history)

I would expect Ridsdale and Wallace to question/veto that transfer as not in the long term interest of PNE. I don't know why football fans are so against the manager not being backed IF it's detrimental to PNE.

I think many fans model their clubs mentally on Man U under Fergie. Those days are long gone. If you don't have a genius at the helm who can seemingly see 70% of how things are going to go (and trust me, we don't), you make the transfers a lot more of a one man process.

Football has moved on so much that even if Fergie was around he wouldn’t be running the whole show like he did. Didn’t United when they won the champions league have 3 back room staff or something silly like that. Teams lowest age groups will have more staff then Fergie, Wenger had back then.

Given it was Ridsdale who signed Okkels and wasted £1.7m I wouldn’t want him anywhere near our signings.
Think we can all agree on that. A DoF would be someone with a football background who would come and and go we are playing 4-2-3-1 and bring a manager in who excels with that formation and hence buy players to feed that system. If said manager isn’t good enough you get rid and bring someone else in and not have to rip everything up and start again

True or near the club in general. That doesn't justify this signing or the process though.

You need someone looking at the long term health of the club. As a rule for a club our size, any signings over 26 should be a massive first team asset/really l, really thought through. According to Ali Maxwell this doesn't improve our first team and I'm in total agreement.
