Heckingbottom

I've said this before and I still believe that PH is a proper football man and a capable manager, however he appears to be completely out of ideas with this group, he doesn't appear to have complete faith in his squad and as a result he's gone cautious with selections and tactics and has got himself somewhat stuck in a rut.

Some managers are skilled at getting the best out of an unfancied group of players, others operate better at 'bigger' clubs with squads more set up for success - PH seems to me to be the latter, which is why if we were taken over and there was a radical overhaul of the squad, I'd be prepared to let him continue in post and see what he can do with a more talented group, but in truth (even though I think the takeover will go through), I'm not expecting that massive refresh of the squad straight away and it's for this reason I think it's best that the club and manager part ways at the end of the season.

He's done his best, North End is a tough gig for any manager.

I agree with this.

His best spell as a manager was at Sheff Utd where they had a supremely talented squad with the likes of Bogle, Ndiaye, Mcburnie and so on.

He's one of those who can get results with a team with lots of talent but really struggles at a club like us because the budget is so small.

Most successful managers have a good squad , but it’s making the best of the squad you’ve got that is something Heckingbottom is not doing for large spells .

A pragmatic manager would know when to turn the screw instead of throwing everyone behind the ball. Heckingbottom is idealistic, he has his own rigid way of playing with already decided subs, unable to make changes to adapt to or target the opposition.

I think it’s mind numbingly simple why the majority of games the manager has overseen are so dull.
His 3-5-2 is for the majority of the game 5-3-2 so with the keeper and sitting in central midfielder we have 7 defensive minded players on the pitch…..simples.

He needs replacing in the summer - simple as that.

Then again who do we get?
I don’t know how realistic it would be considering how well he’s done at Utd. But under a new owner I’d take Carrick. don’t think he will get the job permanently at Utd.

Just depends where he sees himself next season. High end championship/low end prem team or abroad.

I think his stock will be too high for him to come here after this season.

Fell apart when Armstrong yes, but we played all August without him and it took a few games for him to become a starter.

We also cannot ignore how many points Iversen won us over that period.

PH then failed to realise that 2 CDMs wasn’t working (as Armstrong played more advanced), hence the recent wins when we went with 1 and Moran, and even then it was forced upon him due to injuries and suspension.

PH blamed the pitch from January saying we needed to change our style of play, yet Hull turned up among others and played us off the park. Didn’t explain our poor away form either. The pitch was much better against WBA yet we turned in arguably our worst performance of the season.

PH threw his toys out of the pram in January when we got no immediate signing - which is a big failing of the board, however we got some players in and still didn’t improve. He also decided to spend most of the money on an injury prone player.

PH bombed Small out of the team for a few bad performances whilst others stayed. On Saturday he started with 4 CBs and Potts despite having 3 wingbacks on the bench, all of which he signed.

PH says we haven’t got wingers to play 442 then plays it odd games - way to boost the players confidence who are playing out wide.

His in game subs offer nothing and we may as well stay as we are.

He has done well at 1 club and that was having the best team in the league.
Would anyone have Scott Parker (Fulham, lesser extent Burnley) or Chris Hughton (Newcastle)?
Both of which got the best teams out of the division, just.
I wouldn’t.

I am sure there are other reasons I have missed such as poor performances during local derby games but they are less managerial type reasons. I’ve also not counted the extensions of Lindsay and Potts, as these maybe PR decisions.

Sick of everything to do with the club.
Owners who refuse to give decent support to any manager year after year.
Owners who will not improve the infrastructure without taking it out of the minimal playing budget.
Managers who set of well, with good intentions then lose all hope and passion because of the lack of decent investment every new season and every January.
Keep resigning players past their best and/or injury prone.
Playing such slow, boring, negative football. devoid of any passion and desire to get forward and provide decent service to the forwards.
It is getting worse year after year.
It is killing my love for the club.

Even worse because it is 8 players, not 7.

I just don't get this, his overall stats as a manager show just how poor he is, his win ratio is shite, his selections, tactics and subs are shite, his pressers are shite and name ONE player he has improved since he came to PNE?

He has improved both Devine and Dobbin. Both have had their best seasons as professionals to date.

Sadly, neither are ours as I type.

I say this as one who would like a new manager with a more vibrant formation installed at the seasons end.

i genuinely see it as what a good season we have had. if the poor run of form had come at the start and we were on good now noone would complain. its been a good season with unfortunately key players missing at a critical time that cost us a run at play offs.

compare it to last year and anything under lowe and we have to go back to neil to have a season as good as this. been some fabulous goals, some great highlights. I've enjoyed it, shame about the injury to iversen and dumb shit from magic or we would still be in with a sniff next

I think you are on the wind up.
Either that or you sniff glue.

He hasn’t improved them though.
They were decent players to start off with.

A bit of a silly reply.

Are you suggesting that decent players cannot gain an improvement over a season in their skill / ability set?

Whether we both like it or not, both have had their best seasons to date, as professionals, under PH.

both have been excellent since arriving at Deepdale, they have been the only shining lights in a turgid season, PH hasn't improved them as can be seen by the frustration shown by both over the whole season, keeper plus 7 defensive players leaving this pair to plough loan furrows in an attempt to create anything positive.

Statistically, both have had their best Goals (and I presume Assists) returns in their careers to date.

We'd be cooked without them both.
