Heckingbottom

D
I've said this before and I still believe that AN is a proper football man and a capable manager, however he appears to be completely out of ideas with this group, he doesn't appear to have complete faith in his squad and as a result he's gone cautious with selections and tactics and has got himself somewhat stuck in a rut. He's done his best, North End is a tough gig for any manager.
All you have to do is replace PH with AN, as I have above, and the same totally applies.

When Zedan comes in, think it’ll be quite clear he will want a new man at the helm and a well-known name that’ll attract more attention.

Gut feeling next season it’ll be Gerrard in.
Have we got any basis for thinking that beyond him being Saudi? Most owners don’t just come in and immediately want to instate a name

Heckingbottom is getting numbers out of Dobbin which he’s never got before, by playing him in a position which was completely foreign to him.

And Devine has definitely improved over the course of the season. Really tries to take games by the scruff of the neck now. Obviously not withstanding he was talented at the start.

Alfie Devine will be learning the most from Stuart McCall, who was a good experienced international midfield player

If Heckingbottom does go and there is a decent budget I'd imagine it will be a "name" with a good team around him.

Another one who might be an interesting choice is Lee Carsley, a young well thought of coach. If brought in with an experienced DoF it should at least lead to a more exciting progressive team.

More likely to entice better players, more media and exposure to the club more than anything really.

I know it sounds horrific but Sky would be all over “Steven Gerrard’s Preston North End”

With respect to 52 year olds, 52 year old Lee Carsley isn't a young coach!

I can't believe some are trying to defend the guy. His stats are awful.

New owner or not he has to go but I fear it will rely on a new regime before he does.
The stats are not impressive at all, but equally we never seem to play as utterly shit as we did under Lowe. Apart from Boro away, where we both capitulated embarassingly.

Hecky has significant weaknesses, he can't seem to hold a lead, and he can't remain consistent for longer than a couple of games before reverting to a terrible performance.

He can't capitalise on games we should win.

He is however, far less of a media disaster than Lowe, somewhat more mature. Yet still prone to grumpiness.

For me his media stuff although completely different to Lowe who loved to run his mouth with promises he couldn't keep, is equally as cringeworthy.

Starting his sentences with "listen" all the time is irritating to say the least & you can just tell from his tone, his mannerisms & the answers he gives he hates dealing with the media.

The only time I've seen him come across well is when he's done stuff in the community which he genuinely does seem to care about.

I disagree that the utterly shit performances don’t happen. They do.

In his own way he’s as much of a media disaster. He doesn’t exactly do much to bring us with him does he?

Then there’s his own disciplinary antics which I imagine haven’t done much to improve Osmajics behaviour. If the boss can’t keep a lid on his emotions then why should he?

And then there’s the results, performances, the lack of ability to improve players and the lack of ability to change anything within games and the lack of any development or improvement in our tactical set up, patterns of play, attractiveness, robustness….anything really.

He’s been a massive massive disappointment.

I wouldn’t be sorry if he left.
I do ask myself the question though how high up the league a ‘better’ manager could get this squad of players.

I think that’s an interesting question.

On paper our squad is probably low-mid-table, quality-wise. Heckingbottom deserves some credit for building that with essentially no budget and currently has us more or less on par for where we should be.

Sometimes, you’ll see a really good manager take a bunch of players and get them playing out of their skin, beyond their normal level (Moyes did for us) but that really doesn’t happen very often.

My worry with bringing in a ‘big name’ manager is they’ll be no better, and quite possibly shite without having a budget to go out and recruit top 6 standard players.

What managers are out there now who we would feel confident could get this squad in the playoffs?

Managers do make a difference, but the overwhelming factor in being a challenger at the top end of the table is money, sadly.

Bring it on, Mr Zedan.

Depends on the manager. Kieran McKenna turned a bunch of L1 at best players into a team that got promoted. Some managers are able to do that, Kim Hellberg appears to be similar, but identifying those managers is challenging to say the least

Especially when you have Ridsdale amongst your ranks.

The guy who was trying to persuade Ryan Lowe not to resign.

I wouldn't be against the idea of Steven Gerrard personally. He's been a little bit hit and miss as a manager I know but he'll have learned a lot from what he has done.

Players will want to play for him, would just be crucial to have a good DOF and coaching team around him.

Can't wait to go from everybody enjoying the media attention/circus he'll bring to the Scouse fraud and jobs for the boys accusations all over again.

Especially when young Harry starts getting Lowe style cameos.

Let's say for a moment you are Zedan, he will be taking his appointments seriously, people with ability and and more than likely a worldwide name as manager. After watching us perform under the current set up, I can't see the present set up being retained (including Ridsdale), I guess Abbot, Robinson, Ben and Zoe will be useful with departmental hand over. I hope the present commercial staff are given the tools to do the job.
Exciting times
