Heckingbottom

Easier to handle losing dead rubbers when you're giving younger players a chance (Small, Moran, Lukovic, Nelson), and trying something new, and taking risks. But he's lined up with 4 CBs and Potts shoehorned into the same old boring set up we've seen for two seasons, and still lost comfortably.

Can't disagree with that assessment. Some of the selection decisions yesterday were dismal.

Vukovic with his pace and directness should be our first choice wide left player - Small has been dismal on the left for months now and it is no coincidence that the one decent cross he put in yesterday was when far too late on he was switched to the right. Offiah is a pacy defender who can be dangerous as an attacker when he gets the ball deep in our own half and runs from there at the opposition - that is the irony as well providing our defence with some pace and agility he is actually more effective in his attacking contributions when played there than when he is played as a wing-back. But the really dismal thing was just the lack of energy and the constant passing to players standing still who often then just passed it back to where it came from.

Three matches left in the season. If they each produce performances like yesterday then Hecky's position may well be untenable.

We are a defensive team. You don’t decide to play hughes and potts as wing backs if your aim is to try and attack the opposition.

I don’t agree. I’m not saying the selection was right yesterday, but we played those two at WB at Charlton and attacked them just fine. There are loads of things to take into account with selections - if we had say Small and Pol at WB against Charlton then we’d have conceded from literally every set piece.

WBA were only defensive in that second half trying to hold onto their lead. In the first half they could have been 3 or 4-0 up.

West Brom looked good, but they officially they had two big chances in the game. We had three. Again, I’m not saying we deserved anything, but they played 4-4-2, 11 men behind the ball, smacked it up and played off seconds. Defensive, but it works for them.

Also all our attacking stats are pretty poor.

They are, but this is my argument. That doesn’t automatically mean we’re a defensive team - it just means we’re not good at attacking. Being bad at one thing doesn’t define what you are - it just shows what you’re not good at.

Why three more games? His position is past being untenable. The fact We have won 3 games in 17 since January is beyond a joke considering where we were.

The problem as I have said numerous times lies far far deeper than Hecky but his stobborness like many managers we have had before him to not chance formation or try something new is going to be his undoing. A midfield of Whiteman, McCann and Thompson is unfortunately not going to cut it at this level. Thompson another very poor signing.

For what it's worth as well, every player that has been injured and come back has been a shell of the player that started the season. Gibson, Pol, Vusckevic most notable.

Id also look at Matt Jacksons role. The fitness of the players and Volume of injuries over the last few seasons is incredibly dubious. Been a good servant to the club but if we are to move forward these are also positions outside of the playing squad we need to change.

💯 this.

He criticises the players for not passing forward, but sets up in a way there’s very little to pass to.

And it’s the same thing with the same players every week. So if they are blatantly ignoring him, why do they keep getting picked?

Moran was the only one who vaguely looked like creating anything - and he was hooked at ht. 🤯

Until the Dobbin miss in injury time, our only chances yesterday came from hoiking it into the box and hoping for the best. It really was Loweball Mk2. (Their keeper didn’t make a proper save all game - and he’s shit.)

On top of that, our lot are ingrained with a ridiculous ‘safety first’ mentality which is actually anything but safe, and is as dull as football can get (in a fixture where we could/should have been playing with freedom).

But the biggest sin was the lack of application/desire by anyone involved; the players, management, coaches - not one gave the impression of being up for the game.

Dying for the shirt? Dying for the beach, more like. 😤
The motivation and desire was summed up by the players walking off the pitch waving to their wives and kids in the executive boxes after losing 2-0 at home. It’s their job and they are waving at the family they saw 3 hours ago. McCall did the same. I watched them all off.

They are paid to win football matches. I’ve sat in the pissing rain that second half and they are walking off waving like they don’t give a flying fuck.

They should be fuming but no not PNE players they are just counting down the days to their holidays.

This just isn’t correct though. Disclaimer - I thought the team selection was wrong.

But the way we set up is so that, on the ball, we have six on their back line. The two WBs, Jebbo, Dobbin, and the two attacking 8s. Again, like I’ve said, listen to what Alex Neil says about us. There’s a reason he defends with a back five against us.

The three main issues in the first half were:

1) We were losing all our duals. These are basics, and nothing to do with tactics. Win your headers, win your tackles, win your second balls;

2) The quality from the defenders to find the front line was poor. WBA’s low block was shutting passing lanes, but as we lacked the quality to play over or around it, we just kept recycling possession. The solution? Drop Storey; and

3) Moran kept dropping deep outside the block into full back areas for the sake of just getting touches of the ball. Went against everything we’d worked on in the week, and took away one option of a forward pass.

So yeah, yesterday we were recycling the ball too much. But it’s important to look into why this is the case rather than just stating it. I.e Storey being in the team, JT coming on for Whiteman, and Moran just doing whatever he wanted. Second half we weren’t great, but we had noticeably more territory. Why? Because Potts stayed on the top line and we had one more forward pass option.

On the evidence of yesterday . . . they don’t.

I noticed the smiling and waving at the end too, while PH strolled off barely acknowledging the few fans left (who bizarrely applauded the team off).

A revealing insight into the culture on the playing side of the club. 😏

They don't give a fuck.

Their performance if you can call it that at Ewood Park showed us that.

Most unlikeable bunch we have had for decades.

Massive clear out needed ….

Saw this against QPR as well.

We played shite all match and Hughes is there waving to his wife and kid.

Yet Hecky has a 10x better team this season than Lowe ever had with some of the highest level we’ve had and still would’ve been relegated if it wasn’t for Iversen and is still producing football that’s just as shit and negative
What did Lowe achieve even when he had Iversen in goal?

I will say again, if Lowe had remained manager last season and not resigned we would have been playing in League One this season and not the Championship.

Who did RL bring into the club for the start of last season before he left after just one game, apart from having Okkels lined up to sign for us? Why wait until one game into the new season to walk rather than end of the previous season or at least half way through the summer break?

Yes, Lowe was so much better wasn’t he?

Both are crap.

But at least Lowe, for all his faults, made us competitive in the majority of derby games. The games that really matter to the fans.
I agree but for me PH is the better of the two and I honestly believe that had RL stayed in charge we would have been playing Blackpool this season. Also, read the views of the Wigan fans of his time with them. Finally, had RL left earlier we probably would still have Alan Browne playing for us, it was down to RL that Browne wouldn’t extend his contract.

No matter what, we need new owners and a new management team in charge, the sooner the better.

Personally think the best thing could happen is two more performances like yesterday and two heavy defeats and that might persuade the club to finally say goodbye to Heckingball for good

Can't see the IOM sect sacking anyone, unless, and let's hope this isn't the case, the takeover isn't happening, and even then I can't see them forking out the compo.
