Heckingbottom

Can't see the IOM sect sacking anyone, unless, and let's hope this isn't the case, the takeover isn't happening, and even then I can't see them forking out the compo.

Yep, the IoM will want someone else to pay for their cock-ups over the past 15yrs.

Compo for Hecky & Co will be the least of the new owners’ worries on that score.

If they hadn’t messed things up so badly, they might be walking away with a lot more £££, but that’s what employing Peter Ridsdale to run your club does for you.

If only they’d asked Leeds first.

Or Plymouth.

Or Cardiff. 😏

These 12 month rolling contracts as beloved by Ridsdale are a millstone round our necks. Never liked them .
Would PH staying persuaded Dobbin and Devine to stay if we had the money. Then review PH after a month into new season. With extra signings of course.
Our defensive line up is patched up from 3 seasons ago - needs are proper overhaul.
I also suspect PH obsession with Jebbo is unwarranted. He should not be the first choice selection .
And Peter Murphy adds little as far as I can see

Why are they a millstone? The alternative is a longer term fixed contract, which could well be more expensive to terminate.

In reality, both forms of contract probably have pre-agreed severance terms. It’s quite possible the fixed term contract would have chunkier compensation if you want to get rid with more than a year remaining.

There are no guarantees either way and it all depends what severance terms the two parties agreed upon, but it’s not really correct to say the 1-year rolling contract is a millstone.

Or anyone with half a fucking brain

Absolute shame on the lot of us for letting them, and him, get away with this for so long.

This.

No Manager with a half decent pedigree, which is surely someone we would want to go for, is going to come for a 12 Month fixed contract.
The alternative would almost certainly be a 3 year deal (& possibly plus1) which if things don't work out could cost way more than a 12 Month rolling one!

I've no issue with a 12 month rolling contract. Cheaper to sack someone with 12 months left than 18, 24, 30 etc.

And it means we always get compensation.

It's a license to print money for ex professional footballers, the only problem with it is that you have to put up with soon looking twice your actual age.

I think he’s on a bit more than that and then you’ve got the support staff as well. Reckon the total cost could be closer to £1 m which is why it won’t happen under the current regime with a roughly mid table position.

I've said this before and I still believe that PH is a proper football man and a capable manager, however he appears to be completely out of ideas with this group, he doesn't appear to have complete faith in his squad and as a result he's gone cautious with selections and tactics and has got himself somewhat stuck in a rut.

Some managers are skilled at getting the best out of an unfancied group of players, others operate better at 'bigger' clubs with squads more set up for success - PH seems to me to be the latter, which is why if we were taken over and there was a radical overhaul of the squad, I'd be prepared to let him continue in post and see what he can do with a more talented group, but in truth (even though I think the takeover will go through), I'm not expecting that massive refresh of the squad straight away and it's for this reason I think it's best that the club and manager part ways at the end of the season.

He's done his best, North End is a tough gig for any manager.

It is certainly true to say that a number of managers ( including Alex Neil eventually) have felt they have had to go safety first with the squads they had.

The NTT20 lads did say this on his appointment actually.

I just think tactically he's easy to work out.

I do struggle to understand why managers play boring/back 5 crap and don't play youngsters when there's nothing to play for. It means you get fired quicker.

Both factors have such sway when the going gets tough. I remember asking Peterborough fans why they liked the clueless Darren Ferguson on the train once and their answer was actually really good: all the managers at that level are boring back 5 merchants who rely on 30 odd year olds. Ferguson is gung ho and gives kids a chance.

Obviously it doesn't help if you are getting battered every week but it would create more patience if the football was good and we were blooding academy players.
