Matchday Thread Hull City v PNE - 28/10/23 - KO:3PM - Championship

I don’t think that is a bad shout. You ca see how he undertakes pre match warm ups he’s pushing the players. Don’t know why but reminds me a bit of moyes.

I don’t think Lowe will see the season out. I’ve seen nothing in the last 7 games to makes me think he knows how to halt this and apart from a spirited 20 minutes against Southampton it’s been turgid.

I said he was out of his depth when he came and stand by it. I’d like him to succeed but he won’t. We had the 2 money signings, bought for him, sat on the bench today.

It’s obvious Mads isn’t going to press so why expect him to then drop him, sub him when he doesn’t.

We were top by chance and I’ve seen nothing to suggest we have a style of football that will win consistently.

Last years away form has gone and the home form stayed the same. A recipe for relegation if it carries on.
Sadly, it looks like you're absolutely right. I'm willing to give him the next two games to see if we can turn it around - I mean an absolute minimum of 3 points, and at the very least a good performance in the other, but want at least 4 points really.
I thought we played well against Southampton and there was nothing in the game yesterday, so we could easily be sat on 3 more points and looking good - for that reason, he gets the next two games from me. 9 without a win would be very difficult to defend.

Lowe must be looking over his shoulder by now ? Other teams throughout the leagues have sacked their managers for less. Ainsworth went today having lost to Leicester after his side gave them a lot more trouble than us . Other managers have come and gone. Stats over the long term will probably show that Lowe has done well on points per game etc but it’s those other non quantifiable things that could come back and bite him. Goals conceded , square pegs in round holes , blind insistence on The Brand , a perception he doesn’t know his best team , favourites. Mystifying selections and subs .. a coaching staff that can’t seem to improve players . The inability to get a team up when the pressure is on to perform . The ceding of games to other teams ( I’ll never forgive Spurs) Quality of the entertainment .. this list is getting longer and longer the more I think
About it .. am I being too harsh ?

Spot on Seamus….

I hope I'm wrong but It will be over by Christmas. I hope I'm wrong because it means we're winning, not because I'm a RL fan.

Very good post!
Not harsh at all
All the faults you mention there are genuine observations.
Yes, the Spurs game.
The cup tie that felt anything but a cup tie!

I have backed Lowe all along. Would now like to see a change because the team just doesn't seem to be playing for him. Woodburn and Brady as subs, in the name of God why? One nil down and all that "talent" on the bench. I give up.

He’s come closer than this to the sack before and survived. I’m thinking of half-time v Wigan at Deepdale. Trouble is, after an upturn in the teams fortunes, he has reverted to type. A win v Coventry on Saturday is essential or even our silver tongued scouser will have trouble explaining things. The worrying thing is “Our Robert” is currently looking around for his replacement as we speak. Talk about being in a no win situation. 🤪

I think their manager nailed it when he said something along the lines of one team time wasting from the first minute.
The set up was negative, the players aren’t allowed to play with any freedom and our set pieces are bland.
I think it sums us up (as an example) when Freddie gets the ball he’s obviously under orders to wait for Potts to push up and then launch it down the right…never the left….how easy must that be to defend against?
Freddie looks absolutely fed up with this and who wouldn’t be.

Spot on Yoowell….

And if Freddie is fed up , so will lots of the other players…..

For that reason alone Lowe has to go…

We need someone with better technical nous who the players will respect…

I spoke with Wigan’s assistant manager recently.
Lowe was sacked at half time when we were a goal down last season at home.

I think if we lose against Coventry, especially if the manner of the defeat is poor then he’ll be close to that again. Lose again against Rovers the following week and I reckon it’s nailed on!

Obviously hoping for two wins.

Two wins would only be plastering over the cracks though…..

He will always revert back to type Mersey, that’s why I think we need a change before it’s too late.

It's easy for their manager to say that after a solo goal won them the game. What else did they create? About as much as we did. If what they produced yesterday is front foot football then I'd be just as concerned if I supported them.

The bedwetters on here really are something else, at the start of the season, they would all have been happy with 8th place after 14 games, we’ve had a bad run, been very unlucky with several penalty shouts, and not got the rub of the green, got several injuries, wins will return, throwing your toys out of the pram after less than a third of the season really isn’t a good look.

Anyone watch the Championship highlights from yesterday and midweek? There’s some fantastic teams and players out there and we’re doing great being in the group at the middle to top end. Philogene’s goal midweek was a thing of beauty and his loan from Villa is going to propel Hull up the table like Archer and Cannon did for us. If we’re in the relegation places in the later stages of the season, then fair enough, replace the manager, but he’s assembled his squad so let’s see what he can do. An undeserved single goal defeat away at Hull is mildly disappointing but not catastrophic imo

From the outside looking in, it seems a bit embarrassing, the same way in which Birmingham's new owners made the call to get rid of Eustace. The fact Lowe has got a side with Will Keane and Ched Evans into the top half, let alone top 8, is an achievement so far in itself. I understand the bias fans have of their own Club, to overrate certain players and to demand greater expectations than are realistic, that's every fans right, but Lowe doesn't have a good squad. Ask any non PNE fan, and they would put this squad 'on paper' somewhere between 12th-20th.
Yes, the side is noticeably better than Sheff Wed/Rotherham etc, but it's equally the same difference behind Sunderland/Middlesbrough etc, let alone the current top 4. When you're reliant on a striker who averages less than 5 goals a season at this level, how on earth are realistic expectations to finish in the upper regions of this league? Lowe would've been better off having a very average start to the season, being a point or two worse off, but having picked up those points more regularly. He's paying now for picking up more points than performances (Because the squad isn't that great) deserved.

If you sack him, and the new manager doesn't get top 6, you're going to sack the new man as well right, once it becomes impossible to get into the top 6 this season? Only fair. Then this whole cycle continues, until you actually give a manager the 3-4 summer windows he's going to need to build a squad capable, given he doesn't get much backing to overhaul the squad more rapidly.

I reckon he has until the next international break, if he hasn't halted the slide by then, its sayonara Lowey, hello Murphy...or hopefully Rowett if he hasn't been snapped up

You genuinely are the saddest person ever. Have you got nothing better to do than sit on another clubs forum? Get a life, nobody wants you here. Take the hint and sod off

Clearly you don't know the value of Keane because you've probably not seen much of him (😏?)- but he does do a lot more than simply run about aimlessly, and he got over double figures in the Championship last season with Wigan . Evans meanwhile has only just come back from a very serious injury and hasn't started yet.
But your criticism is written from the perspective of a fan of a Club who were stupid enough to promote a failed Liverpool Manager and then watch that manager fail again before washing up at Celtic. On paper, LCFC shouldn't have gone down & you may as well comment as any Prem. Fan might, to say ' an attack of such&such a Champ. Club isn't good enough ' .
Breaking news, (not) most on here know we aren't Leeds or Boro with the players & cash they have. You do too. You're also aware that until a Sugar Daddy comes along here ( ie never) then it's evolution not - (as at Manchester City & to a lesser extent Leicester City ) - revolution.
