Matchday Thread Hull City v PNE - 28/10/23 - KO:3PM - Championship

Hull fully deserved their win.

Were they though? I have watched the highlights back and it doesn't paint as bad a picture as I remember when watching it but then again we're watching after the event.

During the event there's a lot of emotions and focus on what we're doing and not what the opposition were doing, which I didn't think they massively carved us open or troubled us.

That's what makes Lowe's approach to the game even more frustrating.

Just watched Hull’s goal for the first time and christ, our centre back options are so poor. They’re all complete garbage. Storey is vastly overrated, any winger with an ounce of pace or skill (god forbid both) and he’s absolutely fucked.

Won’t achieve a thing as long as Lindsay and Storey start together.
Agree this big time

got to disagree ...I went on the game and thought that with a different ref we would have got that pen, we weren't outclassed and it was quite an even match...Philogene looked a classy item and so he should for £5m

Even the pen though, it wasnt through some great passage of play. Just a hoof upfield their defender made a meal of. Im not sure we had a single spell of good football the whole game. Our solitary chance came from a mistake from their player, forced by Woodburn of all people.

Hull forced the issue a lot more. Delap, Philogene and Seri all showed their class and they were very effective getting the ball out to the left wing. A good chunk of their fanbase have said we were the worst team theyve played at the MKM, and Rosenior said similar.

If Ryan Lowe was coaching Philogene, he'd only touch the ball 3 times a game. Like Mads he'd have to make do watching the ball sail aimlessly over his head for 90 minutes

We had one good spell of football and that was the Osmijic chance where we went back to front very quickly getting Holmes 1v1 running on the right channel, but in reality that was about it.

This is what annoys me is that we have chances like this, we have passages of play like this but once or twice every 90 minutes, like the players then revert to type and literally just pass it around the back and then resort to the hoof.

But what can you expect when they give the ball to Ledson and he can't play simple passes, everything is rushed and he just hoofs it away, Cunningham who can't go over the half way line as it would be ten past 5 by the time he got back, Storey who at the slight whiff of him getting turned and we might as well roll out the red carpet to our goal, Lindsay who struggles to run faster than Steven Hawking on the cover, Brady who gets the ball and either channels it or gives it away because he can't take anyone on 1v1, the list just goes on.

I'm warming to you fuckface... 🙂

Very depressing reading.

Erratum.
I mean to write ," I couldn't DISagree more with that" statement.

I'm not going to go over old ground about the 'Parachute payments' again, especially given that our initial promotion back to the Premier League, alongside Burnley, had two sides without parachute payments running away with the League (Ipswich are doing the same again this season). Nor am I going to address the myth that we simply spent our way out of this League under Pearson, a manager who is vastly underrated for many things out of his control.

What I will address though is the idea that signing ageing players can ever add any 'Value'. Unless you're getting promoted because of them, or avoiding relegation because of them, what are they really offering? To me, it's a huge waste of money investing in players like Will Keane and Ched Evans, they're not going to fire you to promotion. You're far better off investing the same wages in younger players, who may with good coaching become players who can get you promoted, or you can sell on and re-invest into the squad. That's perhaps when you can fairly engage with comparisons with Leicester, who were signing Riyad Mahrez for £250,000, whilst PNE were likely paying similar for a 30 year old who has already proven he's not great at this level. Will the £3 million + that PNE have paid for the two new foreign lads, be a better investment than when Leicester signed Vardy/Drinkwater/James for the same amount?

We signed Ched Evans on a free transfer 3 years ago.
Will Keane is our top scorer.
Signing a load of under 23s gets you relegated, like Barnsley every time they come up.
You signed Mahrez, Vardy, Drinkwater, and James 10-11 years ago - completely fucking irrelevant.

Now fuck off somewhere else you sad, boring tossbag.

How is it irrelevant? You've contradicted yourself, as Leicester were league winners doing what got Barnsley relegated. Sunderland have signed almost exclusively under 23 players, and again, will likely make the play offs. Personally they would probably make the top 2, if the League wasn't so strong at the top end this year, and had they backed the manager with a capable striker. Haven't the bulk of Ipswich's signings over the past few years been under 23 players?
What you don't see with the promoted sides from this League, at least not very often, is signing low end ageing Championship players, and then getting promotion. If will never be the most common way to get out of this League, especially in the modern game. Weren't Brentford a great example too, of signing young players, especially from abroad and the lower leagues, and selling them for big money, like Watkins for example?

This is why I will defend Lowe. Until the Club changes their model, it doesn't matter who sits in his seat, there's nobody who's going to take this club forwards. You could bring Pep in, but you're not going to get any improvement if you're signing players who can't improve, and aren't capable to challenge the top 6. He's doing a great job, and if you want to criticize, I think you're targeting the wrong bloke.

You're Coley aren't you?...... You should patent your wordage. Without anesthetic or a bump on the head it's a sure fire way of sending someone into a coma.

maybe it was because of Lowe's tactics that they didnt carve us open.........the tactics didnt frustrate me...... Millar did !!!....both teams had attacking left wingers...one won the game the other falls over easily!
