Improved McKenna Bid (Rejected)

Improved McKenna Bid (Rejected)

Come calling when you need the money for new signings. I can't see us bidding again because we said that be 3rd n final bid.

Did your chairman asked paul and your manager first or just turn it down...how do you feel paul mckenna will be feeling if he wanted to move?

Although I think we should sell him, I do believe he's worth more than £675k. If you were offering a sensible £850k, I think this would have been concluded weeks ago.

For all we know Billy might just be fucking around to get a rise out of Derek.....which isn't exactly hard. 😱

Who do you think we can sign for £400k when you have just spent over £1M on someone who played in a team that was relegated? Your manager shat on PNE from a great height and to be honest if McKenna had to be sold I am sure the Chairman would prefer to sell him for less money to a club with a manager who he has some respect for.

You are coming across on here with a bit of a disrepectful big club attitude, which is all well and good, but it has caught you out before and could do so again. Give Davies a blank cheque book he will do his best to leave you overstretched (see Derby).

Degsy stick to your guns mate, dont let that arrogant little twerp get anything out of PNE, especially as he seems to be doing it all through the press.

The problem is that Davies has only offered £400,000 up front and the rest based on blah, blah, blah.

tiered deals are fine for a young player where potential might not necessarily be backed up by performance down the line. but for an experienced proven player we should be insisting on cash up front, no strings attached on our own terms. we don't need to sell so hold all the aces on this one.

WHo the hell does the stump think he is suggesting Mckenna needs a career move.

In the words of Fergie "I would'nt sell him a virus", although there is serious irony to that statement now.

In short piss off Billy!

shaw better stop going on about having no money after rejecting this latest bid for a player who is well past his sell by date and will only get worse with age! unbeliveable!

'past his sell by date' but still north ends best midfielder, so good business to reject unless gonna bring in a replacment which is already sorted

They say a change is as good as a rest.

Not so.

You'll get no rest playing for the imp slave-driver, Paul. He's going to require you to run yourself into the ground. Plus the big-headed bender will probably think he's Brian Clough now, so he'll be threatening players, chucking boots at you and stuff like that, trying new strategies and one-liners.

I'd say you aren't in line for a particularly easy time.

Have you considered the amount of travelling? Nottingham's not an easy run at the best of times. And if you move, you've got settling in time for the kids.

And Paul, be honest with yourself, do you really need the cash? There's plenty of footballers who've changed career following retirement - supermarket supervisors, milkmen, farmers.

One thing's for sure, you won't be happy commanding midfield with some of the players they have there. You'll be doing a lot more running.

Think twice, buddy.

P O S T.

Yes.

he isnt our best midfielder, chaplow and wallace are better than him!

people need to open their eyes on here!

waqllace is a winger and chaplows good for about 20 games a season. Enough to rely on?

Plus you do know you usually play 2 in midfield dont you.

My concern is that if we keep McKenna here against his wishes then we wont get the best out of him next season......

Why? He might be limited nowadays as a player but there's never been any hint of laziness or any sort of attitude problem. Not to most north end fans anyway....

If he stays (and, as it stands, I firmly hope he does) then I'm 100% confident he'll continue to give it all he's got.

What a muppet.

Whatever anyone thinks of Mckenna's attributes as a midfielder, and clearly Stumpy rates him, where on earth would we find a replacement to walk straight into our midfield, and who can play almost every games of the season as Mckenna did, having recieved just £400k for him?

Turning this offer down is a no brainer.

All that could have been said about Graham Alexander - who was considerably older - and look what happened there.

A mature experienced squad does the jolly old promotion prospects no harm at all.

😱

I was under the impression our bid was more than that but obviously this proves otherwise - there was a strong impression from within the club that we were going to get our man last week, anyway, on the basis of a figure superior to that one. However, given the less than enthusiastic way he is treated on this message board I'm not sure whether it's a good thing or a bad thing that we look likely to miss out. On the one hand, midfield is really our most talented area; Cohen is one of the best midfielders in the league in the eyes of a number of admirers, whilst McGugan is probably more talented than him even if he is lazy. What we needed was an old head and this is where the other hand of the argument comes into it, for they need that commanding presence in the centre of midfield who would just tick things over and marshal the midfield. It's not a spectacular job but Billy, knowing McKenna well, obviously thinks him capable of this. I do not think he would need to be run into the ground at all, his job would be a simple one because Chris Cohen gets through more work than any other footballer at the club and is generally the guy who pressures from the front. It may yet happen, this transfer, but I very much doubt it - the chairman's approach to older players is considerably sterner than to younger players, hence why we were willing to pay upwards of £2m for Matthew Mills and nowhere near as much for Paul McKenna.

I presume the club will move on to another target, which may be best for all. I'm not so sure it's wise of Billy to raid his old clubs anyway.
