Is Lowe evolving?

Is Lowe evolving?

Hope it’s something we try more often over the next few games. That said, half this forum has been crying out for width for a year, so glad Ryan finally noticed.

With Brady out injured LWB is a massive area of weakness. Not like we’re flush with wingers either, but I think keeping Best at LWB leaves us a lot weaker than Mads/Holmes occupying wider roles does

Mads probably wants to stay central, but looked incredibly comfortable coming in off the left
Set up Holmes well.

Been very critical of him in the past but good to see how he changed everything up and ultimately got us the 3 points, credit where it's due. RLSWA.

Credit where credit is due, but I think Best getting absolutely cooked every time the ball was near him did force his hand today. I’m not sure it was a tactical masterstroke.

That being said, he does seem far more pro-active in his approach. He just needs to play Browne further forward and we have far better attacking impetus.

Quotes like this is the biggest thing for me. The fact he’s actually starting to be realistic and honest about the football we play instead of looking for sound bites is fantastic.

Fully agree.

I’ve always been team Lowe because I’m a bit of a blind faither and a former car salesman myself, so have time for the patter but at one point I saw no way back for him on and off the pitch.

I’m just so glad he’s learning. We forget he’s quite a young gaffer and will get things wrong but as long as he learns and grows from it, I’m happy.

I thought we played some good stuff today but even if we didn’t, ultimately we won. We’re winning games in different ways and it’s very encouraging.

Not a game of many clear cut chances so good that we had a couple of clinical moments that have been lacking in the last couple of seasons.

Hope the Fat Controller doesn't try to take any of the credit from the manager but lets him bathe in the current glory (long may it reign) without interference 🙂

Agreed. He used to so piss me off in interviews (nothing to do with accents or where he is from, I couldn't give a shit where anyone is from) but now he's really just more relaxed.

I've been a massive critic of Lowe and I'm fucking delighted for him that he's proving me completely wrong.

I like the setup. Mads, Holmes, Browne, just let them bomb forward to support Keane. It's so much less conservative this year. I think we need to temper expectations. We'll get beat but this is an amazing start and hats off to the gaffer and players.

I think he will. Oli on FTF makes a great point: Browne is essentially a niche player, a deep lying striker rather than a number 10, hence the 12 goal haul under Neil.

I'm pleased Browne is continuing his good form

Played well in those 30 minutes after the change and moving away from the 3 at the back shape. The first time we've really moved away from the usual shape this season, but arguably he had no other choice as we were playing chess and merely exchanging pawns first half. Credit to Lowe though, he's made sure we got the three points today and got his subs and changes right, at the right time.

I'm not getting over excited just yet, the four teams we've played so far in the league have won just two games between them so far and we're not creating loads of chances (or conceding chances either, Sunderland aside).

The squad needs additions this week and then if we can take 6+ points from these next 4 games we can then say we've had a great start.

Will Keane can't keep running himself into the ground every week. Some pick up for £100k, he's been excellent.

He looked absolutely fucked towards the end, he desperately needs and deserves support.

Just seen Fotmob had him down as the worst player on the pitch, can’t get my head around that, thought he played really well yet again.

Not sure on the stats but I felt like he gave the ball away a lot today and I don’t actually remember him winning much in the air.

Cabango is a serious player though so no real shame in that.

He had a bit of a difficult task today to say the least but he battled on, holding the ball up well at times, he's a proper team player. He was immense towards the end holding the ball up in the corner. He was unlucky with a volley on the turn first half as well.

Not having a pop at all. He has been great so far.

Just felt he struggled a bit today and looked knackered after 60.

Not surprised with that though. He runs himself into the ground and needs support up there asap.

Less than 100k

Nailed it! He's finally doing what his critics have been asking for for months!

Less than 100k

Top signing.

I was a bit pessimistic at the time (given how lacklustre the transfer window was back then) and said he was the sort of average signing Sheff Weds or Rotherham would make and everyone would be glad he'd signed for them instead of here.

I was wrong.

He's doing the role Ched was doing during the winter months and he's four years younger so very good business for less than 100k. In a funny way he's probably as good a signing as Carlton Morris was for Luton this time last year ad regardless of age you need players who can fit your style of play and Keane certainly has the characteristics needed that Parrott and Delap couldn't quite provide last season.

He needs help though. A penalty box poacher in style of Archer or Cannon who can also do a bit of legwork and allow Keane to drop deeper and link up with the midfield.

Then with Riis and Evans hopefully returning in the winter you have a good mix of variety and experience and finally a strike force worthy of a top 10 championship team. Really intrigued to see who the Plan B alternative is to Cannon.
