You can just mutually agreed something is cancelled. I’m surprised though that there wasn’t zero signing on fee and some sort of sell on fee incase he turns good

Starting to think that’s the strategy. Zero passengers, limited cover, robust players occupying most of the budget.

It’s brave and if it comes off lets us punch above our weight. A few injuries and we are going to be a bit screwed mind.

By mutual agreement. A transfer would have probably cost Josh a large sum as his wages on his final year here would be significantly higher than anything Fleetwood could pay. Paying up his contract allows him to lessen that blow and for us to get him moved on.

One reason and I suspect the main one might be psychological - that it simply creates an atmosphere of purposefulness about the club. Another might be that it saves us maybe two or three months wages for him and avoids the risk of him still being here when the 'window' closes.

Doubt it...he's due his wages from us for remainder of his contract if he hasn't put in a transfer request

The "mutual consent" part means Earl will have asked, and the club will have agreed, that Earl isn't out of pocket for terminating the contract, compared to what he was due to get from the contract.
 
Another one that is probably for the best. Gave his all for us, just didn't work out. FWIW - don't think he's a LWB either.

Lowe pretty much says in his most recent interview that Early didn't want to go and be a wing back. Think he'll do okay at Fleetwood.

How? That would involve Earl losing a shit load of money on his existing deal here unless Fleetwood paid him a massive signing on fee (which they won't have the funds to do). This is why we would have paid him up.

Or perhaps Fleetwood are paying Josh a signing on fee equivalent to the loss in wages?

I think that's more likely than us shelling out the balance his contract and giving him away.
