speculation is increasing that Preston FROM BACK PAGE goalkeeper Andy Lonergan could make the switch across Lancashire.

It is understood the Clarets boss is keen to bolster his goalkeeping options and Lonergan, who is currently in Marbella, Spain, with his North End team-mates for warm-weather training, may be seen to fit the bill.

“There’s still a little bit of business to be done,” said Laws. “I’m hoping to conclude another signing before the end of the week.

“The signs are very good. I’ve spoken to the player and his manager and I’m hopeful of moving it on in the next 48 hours.

“It’s an area where we’ve been looking to strengthen. If we can do it, I’d be delighted and it won’t be far off the final piece of the jigsaw.

His grammar may not be the best but I’d rather have dodgy spelling and grammar skills than an unhealthy obsession with seeing the worst in a good championship goalkeeper. Lonergan has his faults but he is one of the better keepers I’ve seen in the Championship in the last few years.

He's a poor goalkeeper, unfortunately thickoes such as yourself blindly refuse to accept it because he probably made eye contact with you once whilst out shopping in Longridge and it made you jizz your undies (that's if you can jizz yet).

In your's and your Cumbrian bumchums opinion. I think he is a decent keeper who is still learning. He is excellent at reflex saves and good on one-on-ones. He still has a lot of work to do on commanding his area, defensive organisation and distribution, but with the correct coaching could become a decent Premiership keeper in he future.

By the way consistantly repeating something does not make it true.

He's a decent Championship goalkeeper. The tirade of abuse he gets on here is completely uncalled for and I for one am not his biggest fan. I was there with my head in my hands at Sheff Weds over a Christmas period when he came rushing out to head a ball that he completely missed, when Ferrie Bodde scored from miles out at Deepdale when Irvine had already briefed him about this players shooting.

If he left I wouldn't be bothered, just as I am not bothered if he stays. I have mentioned Stuart Taylor in a previous thread, whether we would be able to attract him I don't know.

Most keepers don't reach their peak until early 30's so there is still time for him to fulfill his potential, but I do wonder about the quality of coaching he has recieved, as certain areas of his game,particularly collecting crosses, should be better at this point in his career.

If you notice he stays on his line way too much, and I think this can only be down to what he has been taught to do. There was a period when this looked as though he was improving on this until Irvine brought that bloke in from Ipswich and he seemed to regress back. He has all the natural ability and talent lets hope his most recent goalkeeper coach can improve his faults.
