I didn't say they were better players (on his day Wallace is a top championship player). They may, however, be better TEAM players which is the key to success.

Treacy and Mayor have the potential though to be as good (if not better) than Wallace if they keep progressing.

We have not replaced him yet . Mind you Wallace apart from free kicks has been shit for some time . For the price we got for him we can buy or loan better and someone who will not talk himself off the pitch for 10 games a season !

Sorry, I must have mis-understood your first quote!

And I agree about his petulant behaviour, which did seem to worsen under Ferguson, in the second half of last season. With the correct guidance maybe he could cut some of the bad things out of his game.

Take heart. Firstly if this is true then he's not Burnley bound - surely some small comfort?

Moving on from this, I can understand how worried you are but remember when we went up it was with the smallest squad in the league (I think it was 22 proper players and a couple of kids used to fill the bench now and then). Yes we had spent a bit by bringing in Paterson and Eagles though to be honest the best signing was probably the free (or possible minimal fee?) of Steve Thompson. Eagles has largely speaking not worked out yet a startling stat about Thompson was during our promotion season we averaged over 2 points per game when he played - and less than 1 when he didn't.

All I'm tying to highlight is that just because a player is cheap doesn't mean they are rubbish - a good manager with a small, tight and together squad can work miracles - look at us and now look at the lashers.

problem is that 4 or 5 isnt nearly enough. if lonners and ssl are sold as well.
we need then a keeper, 2 centre halves, cover at right and left back, a left winger, a decent central midflieder and 2 maybe 3 centre forwards.
the forward dept is what worries me most to be honest, brown is a terrible player, mellor has gone, elliot is going to go, if anyone offers a fee for parkin he will go as well.....we were already lacking in numbers upfront before all this. it looks like we will have brown and hayes FFS awe inspiring stuff.
I know we have to get the wage bill down and try and live within our means but this squad has got relegation written all over it.

Don't think Wallace is a big miss tbh, odd freekick a season we're gonna miss. Lonners will be a big miss, and i'd rather keep hold of SSL eventhough his form after returning from 'boro was below what we're used to. Hopefully DF will find players who aren't such big names, but will show 100% heart when it comes down to it. (Such as Coutts, Jones... Etc.)

if you went to the crystal palace match you will have seen that treacy can take a free kick fair enough he did not score but it took a spectacular save from speroni to keep it out

Usual pre-season bullshit, Lonergan is going to a prem club, season starts, still here, same shit (whichever way you look at it), different season.
