Atrocious. One word that sums up North End's recent performances. Boring. That's another. What has happened to our early season form? Well the answer is the midfield have fallen apart, proved by Irvine's pointless experiment of Jones in midfield with Shumi against Watford. We have seen time and time again that Jones isn't capable in that role, the game passes him by.

The season started off promising with Shumi looking a good addition adding a much needed bite in the midfield that we have lacked since O'Neil. Months later we see that Irvine has wasted money on a player that can't tackle and doesn't like playing the simple pass. But don't worry lads, he's an international!

The other addition was Paul Parry. He got off to a flyer impressing pundits and fans. He opened his Preston league accoubnt against Barnsley and was frightening defences. Now, he's been injured we fear he may just be another crock that PNE have signed. He hasn't been back to his best just yet, but he's our most promising outlet in the midfield at the moment.

Sedgwick = Sedgwick. Boring, unentertaining, often we get what is required out of him, sometimes we don't.

Ross Wallace hasn't been the player he was since we signed him. He looks like he can't be bothered playing. He only looks interested when the ball is at his feet in the opponents final third, and whilst he is still dangerous, I don't think he's set up a Beast goal in quite a while. He also gives the ball away on numerous occasions whether this be through an honest mistake or he loses it with one of his fancy flicks. Not only does this aggrivate me but his obvious 'can't be arsed' attitude towards his defensive work is appaling. I know people defend him because he is a winger, but he played LEFT BACK for Sunderland for crying out loud.

Carter and Chaplow. Both excited me at the start of the season. I thought Chaplow's back on form and Carter is justifying his price tag. Chaplow has again lost his ability to pass the ball, and Carter has regained his ability to disappear. Two of the worst midfielders in the league and they are at PNE. Why did we miss out on Charlie Adam?

Barry Nic is a player I rate. He is the only one who shows a bit of passion when he pulls on the famous lilywhite shirt. He reminds me of Alexander in the way that in any situation he has a calm head, but he would also rather die than lose. This can be seen by him braking his rib against Coventry last season. He must be the most unfortunate bloke in the world though, braking his ribs and his leg in the little over a year he has spent here.

For the performances to improve, the midfield needs to improve. Honestly, I think it is their confidence in the back four that has led them to such dismal lows. Think of a car. The midfield is the engine. The defence is the petrol. If the petrol is leaking would you run the engine? The sale of St Ledger has brought this upon us. It may have brought us £4.5 mill, but it will cost us a lot more if we are to fall into League 1, a very possible outcome of this season.

Agree with all of the points made above.

I think the midfield will be the making and breaking of North End this year.

Other teams are getting injuries now (Sheff Utd had 2 out last night) and I can see North End picking up niggles/injuries (esp hamstrings for some reason).

I still think we should have pushed the boat out and give the lad on loan from Watford last season, Lee Williamson, what he was after in wages/deal ( I don't even think he has played for Sheff Utd this season) or made a better effort to keep McKenna at start of season.

Can we attract anyone decent in on loan once injuries & suspension hit come Xmas & New Year ?

Still think the biggest challenge though will be keeping Irvine.

That's the key. We're not an attractive proposition at the moemnt, and if we're in the mire by January, I'll really start panicking.

2 midfielders in Jan, even if they're just hungry young loanees...or we're in trouble.

Completly agree with all points made

We require some steel in the middle, somebody who can mix it and take no prisoners, somebody who scares the proverbial out of the opposition.

Lambert is the answer and I reckon we could get this player at a snip

She is some psycho bird !!

Could do with the defensive coach from the team in yellow - like the number 2 in particular

Bring in someone with a bit of quality in midfield who plays at a decent level. Craig Gardner would be ideal. Whittingham did the trick at Cardiff!

Equally, if the engine is knackered, what good is the petrol? I think the defensive problems have been brought about by the loss of McKenna as much as the loss of St Ledger. The current midfield, whatever the make up-gives no cover at all to the back four. Also, they can't win the ball, so the defence is constantly under pressure.

Midfield was shite anyway mate, Mckenna is no better than any of the other 4 useless fuckers we have playing.

shit midfield

shit midfield

our midfield has got to be one of the worst in the league.
chris sedgwick, yes fair enough he works his ass off but he fuckin shit.
parry looks good player tho he may be a crock, wallaceaint doin it this season either. and as for richard chaplow and darren carter, they must be the worst 2 players in league, chaplow still a burnley cunt, he doesent look intrested and i really dont know why the fans are not booing him? also wen he said he has nothing to prove, wel im sorry you dingle bastard but what hav you done in your career, fuck all and for us youve proberly had 2 good games in 2 years, fuckin shite and piss off chaplow.
darren carters a bloody tart theres more fight in a wet fart than him.

irvine for me needs to be questioned aswell, his team selection is baffaling and times and he needs to stop changing his team, wen he says it keeps them fresh its fuckin bollocks for me you shounld play your best 11 every game.

shaw, if u dont get your hand in your tight pocket for 2 good center midfielders then were fucked and league 1 here we cum.

there will also be 1 hell of a backlash if we get beat to newcaste and then the scum, irvine and shaw will both feel the pressure and its only a matter of time before the fans want you out!
