New laws.

New laws.

I think @Staffordwhite the new laws on Throw-Ins / Delaying Tactics should have the desired effects. We've seen last year with the new 8-second countdown for Goalkeepers the end of a goalkeeper falling to the floor and taking 30 seconds to get the ball back into play. The World Cup has (so far, touch wood) shown that these new laws and modifications can be implemented effectively but hopefully be as equally successful in domestic football (at all levels, which will be fun)

As always, players will seek to gain any advantage possible, so let's see how much they try to push the boundaries once they're back come August.

In addition to the 5 second rule for restarts from throw ins or goal kicks, they should add restarts from free kicks in the defending half. How many times does a defender place the ball and pretend he’s going to take it only to shuffle off, wave the keeper forward who then re-spots the ball, takes a few yards back, waves an arm about and then launches it.

Why not just take this to the logical conclusion and have nominated takers like penalties? That way whoever is the nominated taker is the only person who can place the ball as well as kicking it. Yes, you lose the element of surprise, but then you lose that anyway. If a team nominates their keeper to take a free kick in the defensive half then the referee will know if the keeper is time wasting over the free kick.

I do agree teams have become very adept at wasting time in the modern game.

I would introduce a minimum distance that goal kicks must travel forwards. Since it is hard for anyone to measure that would be the front of the 18 yard box. However, if I could get away with it then I would say goal kicks have to reach the halfway line. That should reduce all this messing about with short goal kicks that has come into the game.

I’m also hoping that if they book a keeper for timewasting, they are willing to book him again if he carries on. It seems to be a free pass now that when you’ve been booked for it you can take as long as you like as you’ll never be 2nd yellowed.

If players are going to be booked for time wasting, taking their shirt off, putting their hand over their mouth when talking to a team mate on top of the usual bookings for fouls, foul language and talking back at the ref or his assistants amongst numerous other bookable offences we are going to end up watching five a side.

Surely it is fair that a really bad foul gets a straight red, two yellows for a poor tackle and you do another poor tackle is fair enough, but being sent off for taking a few seconds too long to take a throw in is rather stupid.

Tink that the yellow card scenario needs a bit more looking into.

Apply the laws properly for as long as it takes (I’d suggest a couple of weekends will do it) and all the bollocks will soon stop.

If it’s a shitshow for a couple of weeks I don’t care. It will make the game better.

Laws cannot be optional. Players can not all just misbehave so much that we never get to enact the laws that have actually been designed for the good of the game.

We have seen it in the past where the first few games appear silly because of law changes, but it always settles down and we forget those early oddities. I seem to remember the yellow cards for goal celebrations being an example. There have been others but my memory fades because of the insignificance of those initial responses to change long-term.

I’d quite like a new rule that says the team who have just conceded a goal can kick off as soon as they can get the ball to the centre spot. Would sort out all the fannying about with goal celebrations!!

Agreed - or at least set a '30 second' rule.

And any subs running onto the pitch to celebrate should get a red card.

The scenes in the World Cup have been pathetic. 😤

Can we include kicking the ball into the crowd as part of the celebrations?

I can just imagine home teams abusing the rule otherwise to enable their players to do the fannying about celebrations and not enabling the away team to have a ball to kick off with.

TV companies might not be happy though, would lower the time for them to do replays of the goal from the spider drone hawkeye pigeon view cam.

Anything which reduces fannying about after goals is definitely welcome.

What a shite rule that would be. Talk about fixing something that’s not broken.

I believe a couple more new laws have come into effect:

You no longer have to stand 10yds away when the opposing team takes a free kick.
A throw in can be taken at any place on the perimeter of the pitch.
Roll around and scream and you will be awarded a free kick.

It apears that each of these new laws have been taken up with gusto!

dont forget the one where your countries supreme leader can go crying to the FA president to get a red card overturned

I know there been a few doubtful one but they need to run var the same as here. Go with ref on field decision and only intervene when it clear/ obvious error. Let the game flow, I don’t watch prem anymore, there far too many stoppages.
