It's cringeworthy, but I dislike the dumbing down of sports journalists. Asking those stupid questions that are inherently insulting to listeners. So in a way I'm glad to see someone give short shrift to that bullshit. Could have easily dealt with it better though.

As usual Hickson likes the sound of his own voice too much, absolute grade A wanker. ML said nothing wrong tonight, everything he said was music to my ears, prices coming down, listening to the fans etc etc.

Totally agree with you. I've just listened tp the interview on BBC iPlayer. Hickson was giving Lindsay the opportunity to expand on the new pricing category. The buffoon decided to try and turn it into a direct attack on himself.
He claimed he'd decided on the changes before the Portsmouth game. Yet the LEP (ok i know it's a rag) quoted him as saying, "We’ve taken on board constructive criticism from our supporters over the pricing."
He's just shot himself in the foot. When will he stop trying to talk with a stupid half posh accent? Not a good piece of PR, Maurice

Got to disagree with you there. Over recent years (Beck onwards) PNE have had more than most when it came down to coverage. During Peters reign, North End had loads of coverage and it continued through different managers because we were successful or looking like we were going to be successful. Burnley & Blackpool had less coverage during this period until recently.
Hickson might be a dick but his show has given North End over the years more coverage than most teams in the area. I remember Burnley & Blackpool fans saying that Radio Lancs was really Radio North End

I don't care if Hickson is a Blackpool/Rovers/Burnley fanatic, he was not at fault and I felt sorry for him.
Hickson did not ask ML any questions which dozens of PNE fans would not have asked him.

The BBC (local) as a public funded body has a duty to report on local sport - they won't and can't ditch North End because of what the chairman says. To me it was a deliberate attempt to create a siege mentality and get fans thinking "great, someone who won't back down to the media", Clough was a master at it and Ferguson snr does it all the time. No more little old North End I think.

ML explained the reason for the change, then Hickson ignored every word said and referred to the explanation as 'insulting to intelligent people'. That's what got ML's back up, Hickson implying that he was treating people as if they were thick.
ML did seem a bit of a tosser after Hickson had riled him, but there's no such thing as bad publicity. Would this thread have attracted many posts if it was just 'ML went on radio lancs, had a nice chat about prices'? Nope. I was merely making the point that you can handle the media in different ways. Hickson will have gone home tonight thinking about how he can interview ML in future - he will have to as that is his job - doesn't do any harm to make the media think IMO.

Just listened to it now.
Oh dear Maurice. Not your finest hour. Honest questions by Hickson & all ML had to do was answer them. You wouldn't have got Bryan Gray or even Shaw turn the interview into a personal vendetta. The long pauses by Hickson were priceless.
Either way it will make for more interesting listening - bring on round two - wonder what "little old Preston" Shaw will be making of it all

Fair comment as to more interesting listening. However, Hickson is far more "media savvy" than Lindsay. As such, and i hope i wrong, Lindsay, from a PNE perspective, could turn out to be a broadcasting "train crash".

Totally agree. Hickson is very irritating but PNE get at least equal coverage to all the other clubs. Ironically, I'd say that Rovers get the worst of the deal. Didn't hear the interview in full but it seems ML has not handled it very well, which is surprising for someone of his experience and who has claimed to be very media savvy. Maybe it's personal between him and Hickson...maybe Hickson didn't play the records he wanted at the Casino..who knows? Still, not what the club needs at all.

Seems that way. But how? Hickson is basically a DJ. Lindsay has been involved in professional sport for years, was instrumental in setting up Super League, managed the England (GB?) RL Team. How can he not be media savvy??
