Do you not think the purpose of the interview might have been to let radio listeners know there had been a change in price? Of course Hickson knew the bloody price changes, like he said "I can read them for you if you like?"
 
To be honest Albertan, I've often seen you as the voice of reason and common sense on here, but I can't agree with any of what you've just said.

ML took a ridiculously defensive and argumentative stance in the face of what I thought was fairly timd and gentle questionning. I don't think there's any mileage at all in the suggestion the Hickson was pushing it and trying to trip ML up.

The fact is, fans WILL have made a connection between the lousy attendance v Portsmouth and the fact that the decision to re-think things came straight after. I did myself! I texted my dad in the morning about that very point!

For a so called experienced head, Maurice made an absolute balls of it, and alienated himself from one of the key media players in the area. Whether you like Radio Lancs / Hickson or not, they should be seen as a potential ally, not someone to have a public spat with over something I think ML was imagining.

I was singularly underwhelmed by our new Chairman after that interview. He came across as a complete plonker in my view, and none of it was anything do do with Hickson, he just gave Maurice the opportunity to speak and he put both feet in his own mouth.

Hickson - I could read it out for you if you want? I have checked
Lindsay - read it out, I'd be happy to listen

I'll always back the nobber over the lasher. I'll also always back the straight talker over the smug git. So I'm biased on 2 counts, but as far as I'm concerned ML exposed GH as a liar there. Hickson didn't have a clue about the changes.

ML: "Well obviously you haven't checked......"

Needlessly confrontational from ML, the journalist is there to ask questions. He asked a question giving ML the opportunity to sell to listening fans the positive actions being taken by the club. Instead he shoves his already inserted foot all the way in up the the knee.

I'd agree with you on that point. But Hickson retaliated saying he did have details which, when called upon, he didn't have.

I can certainly see the point of view of those criticising ML's interview. I guess I just like his single mindedness where he doesn't care for making friends along the way, his only aim is to get the job done.

Where do you get that from: Hickson is not there to read out the statement for the club. he offered ML the chance to summarize the changes. Nothing to suggest that hickson did not have the text infront of him.

ML decided his own thigh looked tasty and carried on inserting.....

Its a bullshit question though, you invite someone on about a certain issue, then discuss it like adults. dont pretend like you (and as a result, your audience) are morons and need your hand holding through everything.

Lindsay came on straight away and quite eloquently put his case forward. Alright, the question about the "link" was innocuous and Lindsay very much overreacted, but after that its just fucking abysmal and insulting journalism IMO to ask the sort of inane (and quite unprofessional) question like "so what exactly have you changed then?" And Lindsay was well within decency to suggest he hadnt actually checked them.

Im not one of these to complain about Hickson being a "lasher twat" or saying that Radio Lancs' PNE coverage is shit, because thats incredibly childish IMO. I couldnt really give a fuck who he supports, and I very very rarely listen to Radio Lancs. but when I do, the standard of it is atrocious. Some of the interviews with Shaw in the past have been insultingly inane. I mean they get a fan to commentate regularly on games FFS (and thats not a go at surf because when ive heard him he has been decent, but in the grand scheme of things its hardly great stuff from RL is it?)

I never heard it and am not really interested, but I'm sure it's an opportunity for the ream team to put the boot into Lindsay.

that wasnt what started the bad feeling tbf. But it did happen.

Lindsay did very much overreact to a pretty innocuous (but tbf ultimately pointless) question. No doubt about that. But further on Hickson started to act like a cock knocker.

If everyone gave short shrift to stupid questions, we'd live in a much better place.

it wasnt rhetorical at all. 🙄 At that point he was being a prick back.

This "hes not there to read the clubs statements" is bullshit as well.are you telling me hes never read a club statement out in an interview with a representative to the club before?

I listened to the interview and I have to say that Maurice did a perfect job of making himself sound like a right plonker. As chairman of a business, a struggling business at that, you don't bite the hand that feeds you. He was being given the chance to explain to people in Lancashire that our club, that has struggled year on year with attendances and had the lowest figure for many a year on Saturday has now decided to drop its prices. He was then questioned if the decision was linked to Saturdays poor figure, well of course it was it doesn't take a genius to figure that out.

As someone who used to follow Wigan RLFC I've seen this guys attitude in interviews before, anyone remember his comments about Wigan AFC?

We've never been media friendly and it sure doesn't seem like Maurice intends to change that stance any time soon.
