We are hardly short of central midfielders but a manager like SG could perhaps have turned Barton into the sort of player he had the potential to become. One of the best things about SG's management is that young players are developing into first team regulars - Brownhill, Browne, Davies obviously and I hope Hayhurst.

I am not advocating resigning Barton just saying that a manager like SG might have made him develop in the way that Brownhill has. If we were to re-sign an 'old-boy' then the preferred option would be St Ledger.
 
Craig Davies - started the last 2 for Bolton so seems unlikely
Josh King - in and around the Rovers starting XI
Leon Clarke - can't remember him scoring for ages and he was awful here last time

For me we do need to add another striker, another fox in the box type nippy player rather than a big guy, but I guess they aren't easy to find or are expensive.

For the CB spot I'd leave it for now as we can always bring someone in on loan quickly if required. No point bringing a CB in who isn't going to play when we have Byrom, Huntington and maybe others who we want to leave, and Buchanan and/or Laird not starting or on the bench.
 
I still think everyone is jumping to the wrong conclusion and Gary Robinson is returning as stadium announcer for a few games. Clutching at straws.

Perhaps it is Craig Brown as quality control manager for the pies.

So this lad works at Rovers now. Surely the clue there then is an ex northender, currently at Rovers is joining us on loan? Off the top of my head there is Josh King, Lee Williamson, Chris Brown and a full back whose name I cant remember, we had him on loan from Chelsea I believe
