Matchday Thread Plymouth Argyle v PNE - 16/03/24 - KO:3PM - Championship

Next home game guaranteed 3 points unless we go down to10 men or something. Rotherham are down and thinking of summer vacation!

We still got 30 points to play for so anything is possible. Just have to keeping going.

I am happy with the subs RL has made recently and as long as Woodburn stays on the bench, it's a bonus!

Yep can not lose against Rothertham. They are the worse championship side in years possibly ever and have 4 points away from home.

1-0 away win incoming

Stopped for food!
We now have four of the bottom five still to play - if we want to reach the play offs, we have to be winning those. If we do that, it's 68 points without considering the games against Watford, Norwich, WBA and Leicester. This is absolutely doable, but could equally end up being very frustrating.
There's positives in both those sets of fixtures. Yes, some of those relegation threatened teams can and should be beaten by us, but the WBA and Norwich games are a perfect chance for our fate to still be in our hands.

Yeah, it's clearly not on the replay. Hughes gets the ball. Hardie falls oddly cause he's trying to sort of get over the ball and backheel it. It's not a dive, not a pen. Ref got it right, as he did most of the day for me.

Last season Huddersfield were rock bottom with a gaffer that spoke in about 17 different accents and was one of the worst managers in Championship history. He had 4 wins in 20 games.

Full time: Preston North End 1-2 Huddersfield

Never, ever take anything for granted in this division (nor think PNE will turn up and win).

Sorry to be picky Hoz, but we have 9 games left , so 27 points to play for…..

We have to beat Rotherham, Huddersfield and Norwich from our remaining 4 home games….

Thing is there's only Watford who aren't involved in a promotion or relegation chase, looking at our remaining games . Unless we're saying rotherham are goners, still it's a low ratio of mid table teams. They'll all be mega competitive games.

Observations from the couch.

First of all, I would like to wish Osmajic and Potts a full and speedy recovery.
Yesterday, was 3 great points especially under the circumstances of losing 2 players to injury in the first 20 minutes. A special mention to the travelling fans who were magnificent as they have been all season. To take over 1,000 all that way is a terrific effort, and thankfully they’ve all come back safe and sound and very happy. A win and a good performance works wonders for us fans and it puts us in a great frame of mind for the rest of the weekend.

It appears that Ledson and Brady played really well. I’ve been critical of Brady, but credit where credit is due, well played and please keep it up. Ledson was given extra responsibility yesterday, and maybe that brought about the change. He always gives 💯 % effort, but maybe with not being a regular starter, he tries too hard which makes him a bit over exuberant at times. I would like to make a special mention for Liam Lindsay who has been walking a tightrope now for several games, knowing that he is close to a 2 match ban. He has shown great discipline whilst not allowing his standards to drop.

Finally, a big well done to the Manager. I was one of many, that thought he was out of his depth, but he is still learning the job and a long way from being perfect. I just want to see him improving, and at the moment that looks to be the case. Ultimately, it was that long bad run on the lead up to Christmas that has cost us dearly. My main criticism during that time was that RL was stubborn and unwilling to change. I can get over those frustrations, if RL can continue to learn from those mistakes, and never to go back to that style of play again. It’s also nice to see that we still have designs on chasing the playoffs, and not allowing the season to drift away like we have in recent seasons.

I keep rewatching it, scrolling back and forward, and it's really hard to judge because of Hardie's unusual attempt to play the ball with a backheel? He certainly oversteps the ball, and to me it looks like he is intentionally trying to knock it back, albeit to nobody.

I can't really tell where the actual force to knock the ball away comes from though. Indisputable that Hughes gets the striker though, certainly not a dive!

Jesus what a long day out that was 3.45am and midnight home returns are not the future, on the gae should have won by more, II know that is not normally written in print, Ledson and Brady had more than decent games, McCann excellent, Mads retains his God like status, Millar though outstanding, actually felt is was a great subsitution by their boss in saving the number 3 from more torture. Think we will just come up short in the play offs but considering how bbad we were in the middle of the season this has been a decent turn around

Yesterday's result kept our season alive - it was hard-earned and we have to hope that we get as many as possible of our injured players back as soon as possible. All five of Whiteman, Potts, Osmajic, Browne and Riis are valuable but I would suggest that Browne and Riis are the two we need back most of all. Certainly from that point of view the international break might work in our favour.

One little caveat about yesterday - I thought RL made a mistake after Osmajic was injured in not sending Stewart on right away. Stewart is a striker who needs to be played centrally and upfront and he was the nearest we had to a like-for-like replacement for Osmajic. Millar is an attacking wide player at his best when running at the opposition and cutting in - he is not a central striker and he only became effective yesterday after Potts went off and he moved wider. That is a lesson RL ought to have learned by now but hopefully now he has.

The play-offs are still possible but we have to approach every match now with focus and determination as well as energy and invention. We are getting close to the point where promotion and relegation pressures can make odd things happen. This is where being able to cope with those pressures starts to make a difference.

Yes, it’s a really weird one with Hardie hurdling the ball like that.

Either a back heel attempt or maybe it’s a move he has tried in training to draw a foul?!

I’ve seen pens given for less.

He went for the pace up top and I agreed with his change. Then Potts went off very shortly afterwards and Millar moved to the right. I'm not sure you can judge how effective Millar was through the middle on 5-10mins.

8 unbeaten.
5 in 20.
7 unbeaten.
Loss to Stoke.
Victory today v Plymouth.

37 games.

You're losing it. 😂
Just catching up.

Sorry JD, I think you are mistaken.

The last game of the first 8 unbeaten was a draw (Rotherham (A)) so add that one on.

The first game of the recent 7 unbeaten was a draw (Millwall(A)) so add that one on.

Total 22 games from Rotherham away to Millwall away inclusive. Only 5 wins.

Totally agree with the nonsense about Bayliss though.
