Matchday Thread PNE v Ipswich - 03/02/24 - KO:3PM - Championship

Ryan has said in his IFOLLOW interview, that Holmes might of done his meadal ligament in his knee when warming up, so is that a long term injury if so.
Medial is not necessarily long term, depends on the extent, but as it isn't a cruciate, it generally is less of a worry. I did mine a few years ago, only a Grade 1, but I was back running in 3 weeks (Physio said it would be 6-8 but got bored of doing nothing). Hope for Duane it's similar!

Did my medial the day before the playoff final in Cardiff. Forever associate the two pains as I was hobbling around on crutches!

Was back up and running in a few weeks though, wasn't too bad for me either. My epic five a side career was back in no time.

This is the law, it should have been an indirect free kick. The referee made a boo boo!

The goalkeeper has the same restrictions on handling the ball as any other player outside the penalty area. If the goalkeeper handles the ball inside their penalty area when not permitted to do so, an indirect free kick is awarded but there is no disciplinary sanction. However, if the offence is playing the ball a second time (with or without the hand/arm) after a restart before it touches another player, the goalkeeper must be sanctioned if the offence stops a promising attack or denies an opponent or the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.
Looks like no actual foul was committed on Mads, keeper miscontrolled it and then dived and pushed it away with his hands, looking at the law that you’ve shown, then it’s an indirect free kick and a sending off. The double jeopardy only applies to penalty kicks, I think.

It's not running that's the problem. It's cutting and the sudden starts/stops with a footballer.

If that’s the case then I would call it quits for the Riis offside.

Absolutely- I suppose the missing piece of the jigsaw in this is that I am 50 😂, I don’t have a dedicated physio and I was back on the cricket pitch 3 weeks after, so I’m sure Duane will be ok!
I have a friend our age who doesn't have a functional ACL. He still jogs/runs but has to be careful. You'd never know it to see him waking around. 👍

Yes, you’re right - there is never a card for a goalkeeper handling the ball in his penalty area.

Red card for denying a clear goal scoring opportunity when he’s not allowed to touch it with his hands.
Goalie put himself between ball & Mads. Surely obstruction 'only'.
That was different from a defender shielding the ball to let it go behind for the Goalkick.
