Matchday Thread PNE v Rotherham Utd - 29/03/24 - KO:3PM - Championship

They was genuinely the worst team I’ve ever seen at championship level. Fair play to those Rotherham fans that made the effort to come to the game proper supporters.

Cafu having their only decent bit of play where he cut inside and got a shot away, only to be subbed off at half time summed them up entirely

Punting it long to a lone Charlie Wyke up against 3 aerially good central defenders is just inept, regardless of the quality of their squad

I hope that they improve for next season , they are gonna be playing the lashers 😂

I would be pretty happy with 6pts from these three games.

I had a vivid dream last night that it was Monday and we were about to face Birmingham having had a comfortable win against Rotherham. The exact score was not revealed to me in my vision… but it felt like 3-1 or 3-0. Hope that helps everyone with their accumulator selections.

Holy shit. I’m now expecting to find myself stark naked in the middle of a shopping centre tomorrow 😳

So comfortable today, never seen such a defeated side at deepdale this season.

Clearly you didn’t go on against West Brom or Watford!

Lots of disappointment at not "going for it" in the second half. My take is that the game was already won, we kept the ball and patiently waited for opportunities which we did still create. The last 20mins or so was pretty much a non event but imagine the criticism of Riis had done his hamstring chasing at full tilt. Job done, move on.

He did chase a ball at full tilt - the incident where he cut it back just a bit too high for Keane to get a header on target. What a goal that would have been. As it is I suspect that the goal difference differential between us and the teams around us is too big to make up and so if we are going to make the play-offs then it will have to be on points. As I said the other day what will become increasingly important from now on is how teams cope with the pressure which will ratchet up match by match. But one match at a time - we have to go out on Monday with a total focus on what we need to do.

There's no way we were catching Norwich on goal difference. Rotherham were bad but not 10-0 bad.

Agreed. He seems to be playing a more intelligent game these days too.

The best ever we're the Stockport fans some years ago when we hammered them 6 or 7 nil. They never stopped singing. At 5 nil it was "6 - 5, we're gonna win 6 - 5. Score in a minute, we're gonna score in a minute. " They were quality.
I remember that being us when the plastics dicked us 6-0 at ewood in the 90’s

I was one who felt 'some' disappointment at not really striving for an extra goal or so, especially as we see so few 4 or 5 goal wins theses days.
It's not a major issue, or one to really argue about, but equally i see no reason not to express some slight frustration, that we could have come off really pleased, especially having got stuck in motorway and general bank holiday traffic.
I note that a number, although not all by any means, of the ones just happy with the professional performance, don't actually attend. I guess if i'd just watched it on line and gone on to other things as soon as the full time whistle blew, i might feel the same.
Anyway that was mine/our feelings travelling back, that it was slightly disappointing not to have come off witnessing a really good win, as they where so poor.

I think Mondays game would have influenced the drop off in the 2nd half.
It did have the making of a 6-0 at half time.
We have now got to concentrate on preventing Rowett from once again derailing us.

Please elaborate.

3pm is the specific time of day when Jesus was said to have died and therefore particularly important. Many people observe a short silence, or go to a church service at 3pm.
I've argued in the past that starting Good Friday games half an hour later would allow quite a lot of devoted Christians to pray or meditate or whatever at threeish - and still come into the ground. without it being a major change. 4pm kick off would allow them to attend a church service then come to the game. Not sure how many that would affect nowadays.
