Matchday Thread PNE v Southampton | 02.05.26 | KO 12:30 BST | Championship

As a few others have noted I think Southampton were a bit over arrogant and unnecessary at the end.

Maybe they think the Play-offs will be a walkover as they are so fantastic.

Hopefully that will bite them on the arse.

I am no fan of Millwall but I hope Alex Neil does it. If not let's hope McBurnie roughs them up.

That is of course if they overcome Middlesbrough which they seem to think will be a walkover too.
As soon as the final whistle went I exited the Town End....

Who were arrogant ? The players or the fans ?

I would say both but maybe I was just being a grumpy git as usual!
Definitely quite a bit of Premier League entitlement about them.

The "You're so northern, you eat off the floor" was particularly cringey.

Really good side and should win the play offs, doesn't mean they will.

Seeing their camara save keeper make a complete tit of himself for our goal was a highlight.

Really enjoyed the win at Southampton, shame we totally collapsed in January.

I am in the " anyone but Southampton" camp....

As you say there is definitely some premier league entitlement about their fan base...

I would like one of the teams without parachute payments to win the play offs

Although I agree, the team I want to go up is the team who would be most threat to our title march next season (I know). That would be Southampton I think.

Fair point , I never thought of it from that angle...

I would Love Browne to score a last minute winner in the second leg, that leaves Southampton in the Championship for another season.
Would it be too much to ask for us to pip them to the title 😂

As usual, the answer to all the problems is to can the manager. Like players, they don't go from being the dogs bits to total crap overnight. Hecky was being lauded by many as a saviour in November only to become vilified by Easter. Maybe there are other factors at play here, maybe the time and investment needed to build a promotion side are simply insufficient, maybe the demand for instant success is not managing expectations, maybe the budget doesn't match expectations, maybe its the expectations that need binning. It is also possible that losing 2 of the top players around the turn of the year (Iverson and Armstrong) can have an adverse effect on a financially constrained club. Whatever the reasons constantly potting the manager in the hope that a new man will be able to work a miracle with the same resources is verging on lunacy.
If the new owner gets in place and is able to make substantial investment in both the club infrastructure and the staff then the current manager deserves the opportunity to build a competitive squad.

None of us know what we will have at our disposal in terms of players, but it would be brilliant. Fingers crossed we can attract some proper talent 😉

Oxford and West Brom I agree.
But you must be very delusional if you think losing to Southampton was a ‘pathetic home result.’
I thought you hadn’t had season ticket for ‘years?’
West Brom’s loss yesterday was the first time they’ve lost in the league since mid-February.

So suggest it’s ‘pathetic’ to lose to them (yes the performance was very poor for parts of the game) doesn’t seem fair.

Well personal perspective. Even though we lost I enjoyed the game. 1-3 flatters them for me. I do prefer when we do press rather than just sit back. It's obvious that they have better players than us for sure but, with a bit more clinical finishing in front of goal we could have scored more than the one. We were still in it until that last goal when we where trying to chase the game
I was undecided about next year but have decided to renew, hoping that more investment will be incoming before the new season starts.
The season has ended in familiar and all too often typical style, mid table with yet again a negative goal difference.
Without the aforementioned new input I can't see how we improve.
Hecky, I was a big fan when he was appointed but the end of last season and this, since January, says for me that it is time to go.
We all know that the main problem is the lack of financial support offered every
time we get into a decent position.
Hopefully 26/27 will see a positive change and at least we start to play to the strengths of our attacking players. I can't recall one pass to Milutin in the time he was prowling round the front line.
