Matchday Thread PNE v Watford - 16/12/23 - KO:3PM - Championship

I watched Swansea yesterday and saw a big improvement under the caretaker manager. Middlesbrough clearly had a plan to exploit Swansea's lack of pace at the back. It's a game made for Riis, Millar and Homes but I fancy we'll park the bus and play for a draw. I was planning on coming up for the Leeds game but with Piroe and James in top form I'm not sure I fancy it.
At least if you watch on tv you can switch off

Yeah, that could be 4 spankings in a row….
Obviously the Sheff Wed game looks the most winnable but that is now looking more difficult with our recent home and their recent improvement.
Even if we did win that one and lose the other three we’d still be on the slide.
The Leeds and Sunderland games if we don’t toughen up are ones that could heap further embarrassment on us.
Both live on tv as well!

Not rocket science…we know Watford had a pacey attack so we should have setup 451 with our fastest defender hughes in the middle and Cunningham left back for experience and cos I would rather him than Brady play. Holmes and Millar on the wings to press their wingers back. McCann as the midfield ball winner Browne and Mads in the middle supporting osmajic up front. Why was our fastest defender on the bench??
It’s unbelievably depressing that Hughes is our fastest defender. That’s where a lot of our defensive problems come from. Slow, immobile centre backs getting torn a new arsehole by any forward with an ounce of pace. The way we defend is a complete disgrace, they are all still dining out from that fluke run of 0-0’s last year.

Top 6 will never happen if we continue to line up with Potts, Storey, Lindsay and Hughes.

I know what you mean about the Wednesday game ND but even they scare me since the new manager has come in ( Danny Kohl )

Why does he deserve that much? The man has no dignity; he blames the players at every opportunity. Even yesterday he deflected the boos aimed at him towards 'his' players who did not follow 'his' game plan (the man has a gameplan?).
Yes, I agree. His record is getting (has become?) beyond any more redemption time. I thought the game v QPR was bad enough but yesterday's capitulation, caused, in my view, largely by his decisions (moving Millar, playing Lindsay away from the centre, to name but two) is surely a further statement of his lack of ability at this level. I was happy when we appointed him, and the speed we moved to get him after sacking Frankie made it plain we'd been talking to him for a while. Who are you taking to now, Peter?? This talented squad desperately needs a fresh start. Get it done, let's move on.

Worked away all week and just couldn’t be bothered to drive up after lads footy today so we watched on IPlayer. Whoever was co commenting for Watford had us sussed in 20 mins. He said along the lines off: we were poorly organised/don’t look like we know what we are doing, pass about at the back with no plan, PNE defence looks like it will concede every attack and Preston are there for the taking. This was all before they had scored. If he can see it then why can’t Lowe? ( Rhetorical)

Critchley of Mowbray for me. Don’t know much about the others.
This is the crux of it. We have an appalling defence.

Ryan Lowe is sucking the life out of the club. Yesterday the disappointment around the ground was there for all to see, a truly shocking result. People pay good money to watch, fan's, sponsors, mascots, hospitality tables on works parties and new fans visiting for the first time, what a shambles.
It's a good job they sold tickets for Boxing day early!
Not the encouragement needed for Chelsea.
Ryan Lowe will never get this club promoted, the writing is on the wall.
Not really a Mowbray fan but you get the feeling he would knock this lot into shape.

Gally could do a good job. Anyone who disagrees with Lowe's methods has to be an improvement and we did appoint Moyse soon after his playing career ended.
Yesterday was a clear message to the management. Yes, we can play well...1st half and 2nd half..but not for you!

Moyes had took the reserve team to a tile hadn't he and was primed with his badges after part way through his career.

I'm not sure how proactive gally was. Him moving to Stoke isn't really a slight from me, but I'd rather see he has some experience

This is the stupid thing with basing your entire coaching/recruitment structure around a manager and his friends. Managers are only at clubs for a short period of time, if things go wrong you're just throwing money down the drain. It's like letting a contractor be in charge.

If we had a director of football in, they could pick which fitness coaches we hire or which scouting team we hire, etc. I get Lowe having his own assistant manager and maybe coaches but Lowe has brought everyone in.

Just to reiterate how short term-ist an approach it is, Lowe is the 2nd longest serving manager in the Championship and he's only been here 2 years and 9 days
THIS IS A VERY GOOD POST.
It exposes the mentality of Champ. Football.

I sometimes wonder what they are being coached James…..
I think we’ve said it many times over the Lowe period . That there is just no evidence of the coaching at Deepdale being effective . There isn’t a player coached at first team level who they can claim Is a better player . In fact quite a few seem to have gone backwards. Woodman would seem to be a prime example
