Poctor and a Gamble

Poctor and a Gamble

P & G make Tampax as well, although I'm struggling to think of a witty line to go with that!

Now then, could any of you tell me who was arguing the case for Proctor when so many were saying he was crap and would never make it?

For next season I make that 4 youngsters who will start to make a real impact i.e.
McLaughlin, Barton, Mayor, Proctor.

Then just behind them we have Wright, Devine, Middleton, Miller, Douglas and Hayhurst.

It will be a case of us taking a relegation hit now in order to re-group, get three older heads in to organise things and then we'll take the 1st division by storm. This time however when we come back up we don't go for the "consolidation" so many of you had argued for in the past. We simply try to take the Championship by keeping the "winning" momentum going with a young team that we will then be in a position to reinforce with further quality signings.

Just not good enough, Wright may be ok at this level though, and we will need to see how young Hayhurst recovers from his injury.

billymacc, many fans have been saying Proctor won't make it. Last night he showed signs that, as I said and as you first told me, he has something. How can you say that Devine, Middleton, Miller and Douglas won't make it when they haven't been given a real chance? I've put Wright down as a possible BUT the problem is he just stopped growing and didn't turn into the 6ft+ centre half the club thought he would.

You should also consider that niether hte reserves nor the youths have played many games since Christmas so I think you are being a little harsh as this next 5 months will be the critical period in making the transition from youths to senior level footballers.

I cant think of one person whos written on here that Proctor "wont make it." Perhaps youve mistaken people saying hes "not ready yet," and youve interpreted it incorrectly.

I have watched the ressies quite a bit this season, Devine is a very poor passer, Middleton runs about like a headless chicken, Miller has not progressed this season and I am not sure Douglas is anywhere near as good in front of goal as Proctor and the released McGreevey are/were.
Bailey Wright may be ok in the 3rd division unless he is bullied by some tall old cloggers, Hayhurst looks the most gifted player of the ones you mention but we will have to see how he comes along. I am all for some youth in the side, but we will need some good old heads to manange these youngsters on the pitch.

Middleton is probably too young still but will make an impact at some point. A really good prospect though.

I agree that Wright is probably the best prospect for next season when Cort goes back and SSL is sold on.

If Miller has gone off the boil then the youth team coaches should move heaven and earth to get him back on track because at one stage he was looking very much like the next Howard Kendal.

And you make that statement based on what? Howard Kendalls are a rare commidity, so you must have seen young miller on many occasions to make a reasoned judgement on that.

Billy He's 17/18. Just sometimes you have to protect these kids from themselves and for me that's why a football manager is paid £400K a year. I'm not one of those who accepts norms e.g. there's always a high fall out rate with young players. WHY? and HOW DO YOU REDUCE THAT FALL OUT RATE?

If youth coaches and the manager think they're going to receive their high salaries just for dealing with a bunch of compliant youths who's idea of being naughty is bunking off training to watch "The Sound of Music" then they're wrong. They have to earn it and get these youngsters back on track. Quite a few of us witnessed an outstanding performance by Miller when PNE beat Man.City youths with their £million signings in the FAYC last season. He purred around midfield like a Rolls Royce. He was way above every other player on the park that day. His quick passing was similar in style to Barcelona tonight and he carved the City defence wide open on several occasions. This was no fluke. He is a young talent that we simply cannot afford to lose.

This is the same player who was totally lost in a reseve game against Oldham, he showed no desire or passion for what he was asked to do, now maybe that was down to DF who knows, but for me he has a long way to go to even get close to a Barton/Mayor/Proctor.

How many times have you seen him play?

Hope we don't get pegged back by the Hoops and hung out to dry. Couldn't stand the prospect of being mangled. Maybe we will be awash with glory.
