What is he actually good at?
(Re - Smith )
Maybe you mean - about 5 seasons ago...(?)
It's the Ched situation again ... a skilled forward that time has sadly caught-up with, - brought in by PR , due to the conditions that the 'Isle of Man' money-input demands. On the Cheap . Smith was acquired for a stop-gap / substitute role , and wouldn't be playing so much if Osmajic were okay.
It's not PR's fault we've got him. It's the level of 'secondary' / ' backup' players that Hecky & the Fans have to tolerate at this time.

We should have got a draw today but wasnt to be. Their goal took a deflection as well.
Thought we played decent stuff and the 750 supporters were first class.
Left Euston on 20:30 and we are now stopped south of Nuneaton as somebody is wandering on the tracks.
A long day just got longer.

Up The Lilywhites.

Kudos to those of you who made that long journey, especially over one (long) Day & not making a weekend of it.

For those of us just watching on i follow, with a limited view and not the full panacea you see when actually there, it seemed like a 0-0 draw was the best we could hope for.
Yes there goal was a deflection, but it seemed like it should have been closed down earlier if not for a half hearted Jebbison challenge, and once we DID go a goal down, some of the (senior) Players seemed to accept that without Osmajjic to get them out of the doo doo we would not score if we played for a week.
Great support from the 750+ though.

I think that was a fair result in the end.

That first half wasn't good, there was a nervousness about it all and a lack of creativity. That being said our hand was forced into that line up considering the injuries. I do think Portsmouth got a goal they deserved as we were giving away cheap fouls and giving them spaces to get into.
Their player was completely unmarked, with acres of space to himself.

Smith is a definite and massive upgrade on Evans, however as used by Wednesday he's a guy to bring on in the last 30 or 40 minutes (including extra) and NOT to be a starter for a full 90 +
He's taking flak that he shouldn't be because he's being used beyond his current capability.

It will be 'interesting' (not the right sentiment i suppose) to see how quickly this shower of journeymen (Storey, Whiteman, Hughes, Lindsay, Brady, Potts, Keane etc- i know some are are out 'injured' but are in and around the Club still) pull the bright sparks down to their level.
They've already done it with Mads, Small, Offiah, Devine & Dobbin, next?
These highlighted group have now been camped-out at Deepdale for the past FOUR seasons, and ( for me, with the exception of the last-season's "version" of Brady🙂 - can all buy a One-Way ticket out out here at the End of the Season.
And ADD Thor to this bunch - a guy that - typically "plays better in a good team, but you wouldn't be any him in any desperate rear-guard battle" kinda player.
A bunch of near-passengers - with a question mark of whether Ben Whiteman can bring the consistency to his revival, yet. If he can, I'd be well-pleased- but wow- does he need to practice those Dead - Balls or doesn't he?

Brady is very clever, he manages himself over a Season without over exerting, aside from the last couple of Months (3 at most) where, miraculously he is injury free and finds 'form' & lo and behold we 'realise' his value and give him an extended contract.

In some respect you have to admire him 'playing' the stupidity of the Club continually falling for it!

I’m slightly starting to question Heckys appointment.
It's what he has to work with....,
"Not a lot"

Our away form is horrendous. Sort it out Hecky.
The default tactic seems to be ..."Go for a draw & catch 'em on the counter"
But with the unimaginative & limited abilities for going forward of Hughes & Storey, this isn't going to work very well very often.
Sort it out FOR the CHRISTMAS break, Riddler, please!

Storey , Hughes , Whiteman were the spine of the team?
Fookin' spineless, more like. ( B.W. needs 'consistency' to be his talisman - but it's possible , with dedication )
No wonder we got beat
Dobbin could have equalised - but imo - neither side deserved to win
Hecky out!!!
He's got no-one in for those trio, just-right-now.
It's Peter Ridsdale who needs to start seriously thinking about replacing them- replacing them for his Team Manager.
NO Championship-level manager would be happy with Storey & Hughes as two-thirds of their back three.

You’ve punctuated the absolute shit out of that, Noel.

I was actually saying we'll end up closer to 5 points per 4 games than 7 points.

Think you need to look at what a "spine" of a team means.

Missing players is fully acknowledged, but it’s the intention of the play that I struggle with. 2-3 passes between defenders and Iversen and then it’s launched. And we do it over and over again. This type of football does not work.
Whenever we play, we actually look OK. Move the ball quickly and get Pol and Thierry in isolated positions against the fullbacks. That’s how we can look good and dangerous.
This all day long.
Unfortunately when we did get into good positions out wide, the final ball ended in the keepers hands or nobody bust a gut to get on the end of the odd decent cross.
I'm not one to name names but MICHAEL SMITH! could've flung himself at a couple of those balls in!
McCann gave him a right bollocking on one of those opportunities for not showing the desire to get on the end of it.

Enjoyable day yesterday apart from the result. Found a cafe in Fratton that did a great breakfast and then went to a pub called Newcombe Arms that was full of home fans but were very welcoming.

As for the game, I thought we played okay, didn't deserve to lose. I thought Thor and Smith were really poor for us though. We badly need another striker in so that Smith can be an impact sub.

Michael Smith who was playing with lead boots on. Didn't see him jump once for a high ball.

20 hour day, to say I'm knackered this morning is an understatement, early on better team, but after early promise they dominated the rest of the half, great save by Dan but they scored from the resulting corner by doing something we should do more, like shoot from distance took a deflection.
Early pressure from them second period then it was all us, even the tactical goallkeeper injury failed to stem ythe flow of play, sadly though never yhought we would score, only chance missed by Dobbin.
They say you learn mor from defeat then victory, we actually are not a bad side, just needed some punch up front.

The Steak piglet pie £4.50 was top notch
