RIP Shaky

RIP Shaky

Brilliant day. I can remember sat with my folks outside a pub (that is now hooters I think) in glorious sunshine.

Thousands of nobbers.

Good Times.
I was sat outside the very same pub I think.......happy days 🙂

First come across Shaky many moons ago on pnefans forum and got to know him quite well, from giving him my vouchers out of the season ticket to having drunken conversations on Watford station during a rail strike. He was a top fella and a one off and will be remembered with a smile whenever I hear his name, which we will like we do with all north end legends.
There is a fitting tribute to him in the north west evening news tonight.
Good night and god bless Shaky and if you can have a word in the big fellas ear if you see him, we need a couple of strikers and a decent midfield if he can help.

This is the article mentioned above, still shocked he's not with us.

That article was written without consent if his family. I think it's a shoddy, lazy piece of journalism to honest, stealing stuff off facebook instead of contacting people!! But the bit about when he was fan of the week cracked me up. He will be pissing himself at that considering it was done as a wind up.

Just laughing to myself about some of the "discussions" me and Shaky had about football and came across these lyrics from an old Josef Locke song..........they somehow seemed appropriate

We laugh, we cry,
We live, we die,
and when we're gone
the world goes on.
We love, we hate,
We learn too late
how small we are,
how little we know

We hear, we touch,
we talk too much
of things we have
no knowledge of.
We see, we feel,
yet can't conceal
how small we are,
how little we know.

See how the time
moves swiftly by,
we don't know how,
we don't know why.
We reach so high
and fall so low
the more we learn,
the less we know.

Too soon the time
to go will come,
too late the will
to carry on.
And so we leave,
too much undone,
how small we are,
how little we know.

Thanks for that Dan, some lovely comments on there. More tears and chuckles...

I had to laugh at Shaky's post, regarding what can be done to improve the "matchday" experience and how to encourage more supporters. I was half expecting him to start banging on about promoting the races down here in Lancashire and putting on free buses from Preston to attract new punters - "It's a massive catchment area down there"

Which got me thinking. No doubt we'll bump into some of the Hound Trail fraternity next week. Why don't we get together and organise a trip up there once the footie season finishes?

Imagine a coachload of Shaky's Preston mates going up to the Lakes in May, Belgian Breakfasts en route, stopping off for a Bluebird or 2 in Ulverston, then on to the trail for a few more and a flutter with the bookie.

The old git would have a tear in his eye too.

Sounds like a plan to me Desmerelda!!

The trails are good, I went to Shap and met up with Shaky who was bookmaking a few years ago. Quite bizarre but fun watching the dogs come in. Never laid a bet with Shaky mind as told him I didn't want to line his pockets!

I read much of the link too, and had a similar thought to deepdaledes as I read about the responses to the dreadful news from his friends from Shaky's "other woman" - Hound Trailing, as opposed to PNE.
I read of how keen David was to bring 'new blood' into the appreciation and love of Hound Trailing, a sport / pastime I'm sure most forum members who have written on this thread, like me, know not the slightest thing about.
In this year, especially being Guild Year, would it at all be possible for us to forge a link with our fellow mourners in the Hound Trailing community in Cumbria to stage some kind of a demonstration trail event in Preston at some point over the summer? Of course, we don't have the scenery or terrain which all the dogs would expect to encounter on a run out, but would the expanse of Moor Park do for a demonstration event? Between volunteer members of pne-online, we could surely fix up negotiations with PCC and find a way through the red tape of the HSE to do something, in the shadows of the STFS, and the Cumbrians (and former North Lancastrians!) can set the trail, bring the dogs and bookies and any other paraphanalia I know dick shit about that a meeting might require. Crickey, if even a quarter of the folk who've posted on this thread showed up to this demonstration event, there'd be plenty of the 'mug-punters' that Shaky so missed that would not regret losing a few fivers here and there.
It's just a concept, and I am without a shadow of a doubt 'the most clueless of fuckers' about what the sport entails (eg, is there a purse for the winning dog?) but there must surely be some merit in bringing a new sport to Preston in Guild Year. It would make Shaky's day, I imagine, to see a Hound Trail in the morning, then nip over Sir Tom Finney Way to see some ice skating from a goalkeeper in the afternoon. In the process and after such a taster, some of the spectators like me, might be encouraged to go and up spend an occasional afternoon in God's country and watch the real thing.

Fucking hell. And I thought I was a 'tedious cunt'!
