We want to stand,
We want to staand,
We're Preston North End
and we want to stand.

We demand to stand,
We demand to staand,
We're Preston North End
and we want to stand.

I echo the thoughts of a few who have posted already in this thread. It does seem like we are in between a rock and a hard place. We rely on the owners to keep us in existence but have to comply with the complete stale stagnation they want to preserve.

R.e the atmosphere, looking at the team and going back to an earlier point, we simply have no stand out players anymore to create chants about. Our squad has been bang average for ages and basically most of them are similar ability.

Additionally, our chants are pretty boring and nothing is fresh. Without any new player chants or even any new fresh chants about the club, the atmosphere will continue to die a death because there is only a certain humane limit you can belt out 'PNE, PNE, PNE" and "Barmy Army" on repeat.

We need the supporters association to be working on this more and have a greater influence with a liason officer at the club. Safe standing and a drive from the PSC coming up with new material needs to be implemented IMHO.

Safe Standing for all those who get the singing going. Central position in the stand essential.
New chants, more about our players and the club.
A central place for those who like to sing to congregate pre-match. Here new chants can be tried and learnt.
The club to listen to what supporters actually want.
A complete ban on talking about Ridsdale and The Hemmings in any of the above locations as it's making no difference and puts everyone on a downer. It's been discussed to death and is seemingly pointless.
Carry on with the flag initiative.
Bring back the trumpeter from the old Town End.
Get Surf back as kit man.

I'm sure he can do a lot of things but not sure he can improve the atmosphere.

Would shooting sticks be available for the infirm of foot and any c bombs result in immediate ejection ? There was a guy on the arsenal game, who became beyond tedious. He even managed to get a swear word in to describe a swear word

Could you not simply have asked for him to be removed from your private box, so to speak?

Please never doubt what Surf brings to the table 🤣
I'm actually wondering if instead of him coming back as kit man, could he actually replace The Riddler in his position.

Really hard when it’s your family member 😉😆😜

If I’m quite honest, I don’t think safe standing would have any bearing on the atmosphere. It may improve it a tad, but nothing major will change.

Years and years of stagnation is what has killed the atmosphere. Knowing we’re going into yet another season to finish mid table in the Championship again.

The stadium is a complete state. The roof is leaking, dead pigeons stuck in gutters, filthy outside. The stadium has been completely neglected by the powers that be, but hey, at least we have a light show (which looks more like a dodgy power outage).

The club seemingly don’t care about the stadium, or improving the atmosphere and that’s rubbed off onto the fans.

The match day experience as a whole is pretty shite. Imagine being a kid coming here for the first time. Stadium is dirty, queue for a pie at HT takes about 4 months, football on the pitch for the most part has been abysmal for the last 24 months and the atmosphere is dead.

We desperately need a change at the football club to get it bouncing again. Hemmings needs to sell to give us that buzz back. Currently, we are treading water and it is only a matter of time before we start struggling and sink.

Hopefully it's a bit better tomorrow, especially if we win. The 12:30 home kick offs are a killer for atmosphere, always have been. Even when it's a local Derby the atmosphere is usually dead at that time, primarily as people generally aren't pissed up.

Most clubs are feeling this drop in atmosphere. Millwall used to be an intimidating cauldron, it was like a morgue. Boro, big crowd but silent to the point you could only hear the 900 away fans.

There is a malaise at Deepdale which is natural when you've been stuck in mid table in the same league for 10 years with no apparent hope of improving. But it seems to be the way football crowds have gone, notably in the last couple of seasons.

True. Sunderland season before last.
2400 of us
39000 of them

Never heard a peep out of their fans.

What a thoroughly depressing read

Unfortunately bang on though

Firstly I am genuinely surprised at the reaction from some after last night.

Yes, I was disapointed & felt flat in the first half but Arsenal's starting 11 would give most PL teams a game.

Hecky stuck between a rock & hard place, imagine if McCann got injured in a league Cup game?

However, seen lots of comments on the atmosphere and then this from the club re safe standing not being on "the agenda."

The atmosphere was flat as 5000 of those attending are not really  PNE fans but football fans, who don't have that passion for the club that we do.

As someone who works at it, even our loalyist of fans won't get involved.

Instead of moaning on social media and the like they need to be proactive.

That said, the club have to install safe standing on the Town End, across the back 10 rows or something to help.

Idealy they would split the kop so not to force a move but if it means upsetting some season ticket holders so be it.

£500k to install it? Really, your telling me Burnley spent 500k on the rails at Turf Moor in the old shed?

I think the two points you make are linked. As well as the non pne supporting spectators, the fans are comatosed by almost a decade of mid table mediocrity hence the lack of atmosphere.
Many will cling to the morsel of excitement a cup draw against one of the big boys brings and a possible upset. So I do understand the frustration when we then see our better players rested.
That said, I completely agree with PH's selection on Wednesday. I see a lot of comments intimating we are too good to go down...I'd say ensuring we can keep the likes of McCann, Mads, Riis and Potts fit and available and we could potentially push top 10. The more we see of Ledson, Whatmough, Thor and Best however...the greater the chance we get dragged back in to a scrap.

Erm, no.

I have a seat with about 8 or 9 mates who are all ST Holders.

I turn up about to my seat about 1 minute before KO. If I'm there 10 minutes early, then it's a shock to everyone. 😂 Making it a "free for all" loses me my seat with my mates.

We all stand up btw.
Is that because it looks like it might rain and you're dithering about whether to go or not? 😉

This is the best approach IMO - prove the concept first in the Finney blocks adjacent to the Kop, at little/no up-front cost to the club.

Without such proof, the safe standing idea looks likely to just usurp existing ST holders from their AKTE seats because they can't or don't want to stand up for 2 hours - to be replaced by those that say they will.

There's no guarantee the standers would sing, devise new songs, improve the atmosphere, or do anything different to exactly what they do right now, in return for disrupting existing ST holders and costing a reported £500k expenditure on rail seats.

It's my belief, perhaps borne out by e.g. the flag initiative, that you can't force fans to improve the atmosphere simply by spending money on props and facilities. There first has to be something exciting on the pitch to get excited about, and the truth is, we have built a very unexciting team.

We should spend money on improving that, not ripping out perfectly good seats on a promise it'll miraculously make a difference.

Regards the songs, we don't have a talisman to chant about, that cult figure.

Think back to...

Ellis
Gregan
Healy
Garner
Saville...

...to name but a few.

I suppose Osmajic is the nearest we currently have.
