Strange reaction

I've said that we haven't and that our approach will likely need to evolve. Interestingly thats the only post of mine on this thread that you haven't replied to today. Probably because it doesn't fit your narrative of this being all our fault.

Must have missed it...Repeat and i'll reply.. Don't want to be accused of anything like you free speech oppressors.

Maybe the problem is a fear of a repeat of the "Charlie Hebdo" tragedy - but instead of self-righteous M****ms attacking their offices - instead it's "just" the Police ?

Noel.... The owner wants to close down the current affairs section and is using this bullshit and his resident clowns in order to enable it.... And it really is that simple..

Are you two clowns responsible for taking down Monty Python ? Satirical humour is not allowed anymore?
Sadly, a lot of that (imo) Golden Age of Television Humour would not get made now - it simply wouldn't get past the (self)-censoring, supposedly Liberal-but-in-reality Fashististic 'Liberal Elite' who are in charge at the BBC ( & with their current mentality installed there since the days of PM Blair )
When I'm ( selectively btw ) watching an 'oldie' channel , eg "Talking Pictures", the broadcasters are obligated to show a 'rider' or- literally warning stating ,"that this film displays attitudes and language prevalent to its date of production " etc etc .
Other cheapo-TV channels feature pc / carefully vetted members of the public having a laugh/ being critical of programmes made in the 60's,70's & 80's.....all to quietly reinforce the p.c. attitudes today. Which is why the public are served-up the innocuous whitebread blancmange as personified by "The One Show". And it could be one reason why there's an ever growing number of people who don't bother with a TV licence.

In all seriousness, there's an extensive discussion going on between the mods currently. We aren't enjoying this, none of us feel comfortable with censorship and we broadly agree that the Online Safety Act has been poorly executed.

However this is now the reality, these are new parameters and we're implementing these rules as best we can to protect the site and the site owner.

Things will likely evolve and our stance will need to be reviewed, but as of right now, a risk averse approach has to be the one taken.

I can't speak for JK, but I'm sure as much as he would not want to lose patrons, he'd like to lose the site even less.
It is horrible legislation - normally these things settle down over time but it seems to be so flawed that it may not be possible. Plenty of legal challenges going in from the freedom of speech angle and the data protection angle, but the government and OFCOM seem pretty determined and have made judicial challenges difficult. Journalists, free speech groups, and online companies are continuing to push back, so we can only hope - although I fear that other nations will try to follow suit. Protecting the children is an age-old excuse for censorship.

Huge overreach:

One potential risk that people have not discussed is that it will drive traffic and conversation away from small sites to the large ones that have the resources to seek legal advice, employ specialist moderators, and pay any fines.

1) Is the name of the Owner known to yourself & is that confidential?
2) (I do believe that pne-online is completely independent of the Club , btw)
3) Could the reason this Owner doesn't want be be prosecuted themselves, is that it comes under some recently passed legislation?
( If this is so obvious/ too obvious - er, sorry about that )
4) Primarily, this is a PNE Footie site. ( I don't wish to go on Twitter or the one formerly known as 'whatever'.) That's the most important part for myself.
We who contribute to this subsection -(or simply read it) believe in freedom of speech. Lately though, it's been my humble opinion that some of the 'too&fro' comments have evolved into purely 'tit-for-tat' -level drek. And tbh '' j'accuse" some of our Moderators, acting in their role as similar to "Speaker of the House" - simply - have not- been sharp enough and strict enough to reprimand some of the contributors comments. I do try to restrain myself, ( hence my observation about the situation reminding me of PMQ's ) .
I've no doubt that these comments have come, finally, inevitably, to the attention of 'the owner'- and as a result they are now bricking it. I'm afraid 'we' have made a "Rod for our own Back"

There's not been any left or Liberal government in the UK since the 70s. The people who run the BBC do not make the laws. In reality, all the laws made in the last 46 years have been made by right leaning political party's. Yet people think we need to move more to the right to stop freedoms being taken, but in reality it is the right that is taking away the freedoms whilst idiots blame liberals.

They deflect by saying the civil service is run by commies, i this alternative truth world 🙂

Starmer certainly isn't left wing- any more than the (continuous) Conservative Governments since Cameron got in were Right Wing . His party is just not as left as Corbyn would have it.

The BBC Director-general is answerable to the Government in a way similar to how the Chief Constables of the Polices Forces are answerable to the Government:- Step out of line & you get the push. However as a organisation, I consider the higher eschelons of the BBC to be composed of people with Liberal Socialist views, and one only need to view "Question Time" to note how unbalanced a political view it holds. Irrespective of how 'the panel' is composed.
It's the parties in power, ostensibly 'left' under Blair/Brown & now Starmer and vaguely 'right' under the complete buffoons from Cameron to Sunak .....both sides desperately trying to capture and hold the 'middle' /'moderate' ground...both sides have restricted various population freedoms - note that the restrictions imposed by one government are NOT repealled by the successful new government... but simply added to...
It's funny how they don't try to repeal these acts of repression.

"Liberal" as used by some in the context of being the SDP/formerly the Liberal Party - is not being used in the same way as per the context of the phrase "Liberal Elite" .

Yes and no it isn't.

My only point in all this is that I don't like to see myself or anyone else being censored.... We need to stand up and be counted. Am I asking too much?

Life of Brian not allowed

Has it really come to us all not having the civil right to take the piss out of Jesus, Mohamed and religion in general?

I'm an atheist, take the piss to your hearts content.

We should not/never surrender on the right to free speech.

The world is changing at a rapid pace.

I have to chuckle at all you political superhero's fighting for the right to spout your shite on a footy forum, ffs get yourself and your bigoted ideals torn apart on the likes of X, just shut the news section down completely and watch these nomarks fuck off (hopefully), they won't though and pollute here where they can, ah the good old days of decent modding where this kind of rubbish was just deleted
