Summer 2026 - Transfer Rumours and Discussions.

If Browne was to come back I hope it would be a loan and that Sunderland would be paying a significant contribution to his wages.

No generous three year contracts please.
Unless he’s got a +1 on the 3 year deal he signed with Sunderland, then he’s OoC next year. Possibly another reason they. They’re leaning more toward a permanent deal.

As for giving him a 3 year deal, he turned 31 in April. Alan Browne will still be playing in the Championship in 3 years time.

Omar Richards is in the shop window from Notts Forest. It's likely he'll move abroad but there's probably some interest from this division. He was part of that crop of youth players from Reading some years back and curiously one of two to end up at Bayern Munich preceding Olise.
I thought he was good at Reading but he's spend the vast majority of his career being farmed out to Marinakis' associate clubs

Why would they? People will pay for his services, they don't need to take a begging bowl offer like that.
North End have had the best out of Browne, he is coming towards the end of his career, injuries have started to feature.

Time for North End to move on from being a seen as a sanctuary for injury prone/ageing players.

I mean it’s blatantly obvious what we need and working on anyway. All 3 of the names Ando mentioned are ones we are working on.

I have already mentioned a LB being looked at, and it wouldn’t surprise me if it was someone who’s fairly comfortable LB and CB.

There’s the Milly situation, if he goes then we need another ST on top of the one we already want.

PS. Don’t put your back out. 😉
I was hoping for early news, as I’m setting off to Southport Flower Shop and the phone signal is 💩there.

Precisely. Sentiment has no place if we're going to build a competitive championship squad. One key asset was his engine... and that's done a lot of miles now and isn't developing. i'd have him back because of current need, but not on a 3yr deal.

He had one major injury 2 seasons ago, but don't think he's been remotely injury prone?

And his game isn't based on pace, so he will still be a good midfielder for the next few years.

You'd argue the best of Browne has been in the last 2 seasons making the playoffs anyway!

Respect the opinion but he immediately improves the squad if he comes in. Not least because he’s not an utter shite bag like the rest of them. Do I want him on a 3 year deal probably not you’re right. Do I want him for this season and next to put a rocket up the spineless pricks that make up our team currently - absolutely.

I don’t get the argument for Browne not coming back. One of the most consistent midfielders in the league for 7/8 years now. Instantly betters the squad and a great character to have around. It’s not football manager we can’t just sign 22 year olds
I wouldn’t be against Browne coming back at all.

But if we had an option of Fredrik Hammar, a proper “6” who wins aerial duels, defensive contributions and tackles then I’d sway more towards him.

Jack had a look at his stats yesterday and he could really help out aerially if we decided on Offiah at CB.

May just be a throw away name, but if the option was either or then I’d go towards Hammar for what we need as a team, even though it’d be great to see Browne back in a PNE shirt.

No problem on him coming back (always liked him as a player, should never been allowed to leave, thanks Ridsfail) just not on a long term, expensive contract.

any inkling whether there was anything in the Hammar rumour? the majority of rumours seem to have no substance.

A left-back to supplement Valentin would certainly be useful - note I said Valentin because the reality is that Hughes lost the pace to be a left-back in a back four at least two seasons ago though he has given sterling service on the left of a back three since then. The versatility to be be able to switch to left centre-back would be a further attribute but we already have two left-footed central defenders for that position Gibson and Lindsay so that is one area of the team where in terms of bodies at least we are not short.

But the right centre-back position is another matter. Superficially we seem to be OK there with both Storey and Offiah vying for the place if we assume that Clarke will be first choice for the right-back position. But should Clarke become unavailable for any reason then Offiah would have to move to right-back - last Saturday surely showed that Valentin simply cannot cope with the near Premiership quality wingers you sometimes encounter in this division - which would leave us with just Storey. In itself that doesn't worry me too much - Storey is a player I like - but any further injury/suspension really leave us short.

I suppose the brutal truth is that we need to find new clubs for both Valentin and as I said after hugely meritorious service Hughes in order to free up space in the squad for younger, fitter, faster players with the same being the case for Potts and Thompson. Amidst all the speculation about incomings and the possibility of Osmajic leaving that seems to be an area where we could also usefully conduct some useful business.

Browne's a tricky one. It would give us all a lift. The same way it would be a downer if we saw him playing for Rovers.

Struggling to remember returning heroes ever reaching the heights of their first spell. Maybe I have a short memory? And that's the only real doubt I have.

He had a strong season for Boro last year. If he were another player - with no North End history - who had shown that level of performance and Championship pedigree, it would be a no-brainer.

For me, some players just fit with us. (Cannon and Archer fit in this bracket too)

If Browne gets announced tomorrow, how do you feel?

... exactly.

I mean he played 41 times last season. The season before he got a broken leg (not really your typical end of career injuries.)
So don’t know why you think he is injury prone or where you have got this information from.

I agree we need to stop these typical end of career type signings but you know what you are getting with Browne. It’s not like a Brady who hasn’t spent a season without getting injured for about 10 years.
