I’m with you @ernest and would be content to have Thompson as McCanns back up in our only defensive midfield position.
I would be looking to play a 4-1-4-1 formation which gives us 5 offensive outfield players and 5 defensive outfield players.
However without new owners / the assurance of new owners I’m not sure we could attract the type of quality we would need to make this work.
This Barcelona debacle has highlighted that the ownership thing has to be resolved ASAP.

Thanks though splitting the team that way does risk making it rather static. All the best teams have a degree of fluidity which in practice means that in a back four at least one of the fullbacks can get up on the overlap and in a midfield four one of the wide players can tuck in and support the central pairing.

Our most pressing midfield requirement is still for a playmaker who can create opportunities for other players. Otherwise wingers can be reduced to standing stationary flat and wide waiting for sideways passes.

They’ve also been giving him pelters on the pitch to the point where he’s actually had altercations with some fans so not totally surprising

Actually he played LWB a few times last season and in their promotion season. Also played up top as part of a two

I reckon it’s Kamara rather than Mills

I’ve watched him play a few times.

Good ball carrier, takes people on. Erratic end product though.

I’d enjoy watching him play and piss myself laughing at the Deepdale faithful fuming about his wild shots.
