Might not be frozen out as such but I'd imagine he'll be down the pecking order unless Jebbison and Lukovic are stinking the gaff out.

The arrivals of Lukovic, Moran and Lang increases competition and not everyone will make the bench.

It's completely feasible he isn't straight back into the matchday squad once available.

This. Would not surprise me if he’s one of the ones left out when everyone is fit

Imagine Heckingbottom will rotate Lukcovic and Jebbison, Devine and Moran, Dobbin and Lang and then Smith will be reserved for what he was brought in for which is great lump to sub on late. No place for Osmajic in that set up

Yeah, originally he did say Rovers away but I thought last week he said that Iversen and Hughes were almost ready and might be ready for the Pompey game… or did he say Watford 🤣

Sorry don't see Osmajic out of the squad. Subject to seeing Lukovic, the Montenegran would still be my no 1 choice for the no 9 spot

Might be yours, but we look a better side with Jebbison and IMO he’s Heckingbottom’s preferred starting striker when fit, and we’ve not loaned Lukovic to leave him out completely. We don’t need 4 number 9s, Dobbin and Lang in the matchday squad, and Smith is Heckingbottom’s “last resort” option.
 
We don’t tend to see new signings straight into the first team straight away more likely to be on bench , but desperately short up front so maybe Lukovic starts or Lang if fit although he might be more of a gamble .

Nothing against Milly as a striker really, but after starting well he's been poor for most of this season and Jebbo has been every bit as, if not more effective without nutting anybody. Lukovic isn't coming here on loan to sit in the reserves, and Smith is the "plan B" option.

So basically it's whether PH wants a second "like for like" player on the bench in Milly, or a way to change our approach through Smith.

My money is on Smith.

As it happens, we rarely have a fully fit squad so he probably gets back in at some point. But if everyone is fit, I'd expect limited minutes until the summer when we'll try to shift him again. He's got a lot of work to do to win back trust of most fans, the manager, and most probably his team mates too.
 
When all 25 are fit, which 5 do you leave out?

(1) Walton / Cornell
(2) Lindsay - too slow, easily turned, upsets the dynamics.
(3) Lewis - Small and Vuc ahead of him. Unimpressed with him to date.
(4) Smith - too slow, not effective enough to turn a game.
(5) Potts / Brady - probably have Brady in the 20 as we have cover on the right (Pol / Small) and Whiteman, McCann, Thompson, Moran, Lang, Devine, Dobbin centrally.

Same as you but Osmajic for Smith: slightly different profile of striker to change things round or help defend the area
