Team for Pompey

Might be yours, but we look a better side with Jebbison and IMO he’s Heckingbottom’s preferred starting striker when fit, and we’ve not loaned Lukovic to leave him out completely. We don’t need 4 number 9s, Dobbin and Lang in the matchday squad, and Smith is Heckingbottom’s “last resort” option.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hecky at the end of the season would want to make a move to sign Jebbison on a permanent deal.

He has clearly fallen out with Osmajic and Lukovic could end up costing more than we are willing to pay.

He might not be the finished article but he has premier league level match fitness, you can tell he puts in extra work outside of training hours.

I think the one who forms the best partnership with Lang will get the gig. 🫰that Lang's hamstrings hold out.

From what Pompey fans have said about him, I think Jebbo and Lang will work really well together.

Two players who can really press from the front and cause problems.

When all 25 are fit, which 5 do you leave out?

(1) Walton / Cornell
(2) Lindsay - too slow, easily turned, upsets the dynamics.
(3) Lewis - Small and Vuc ahead of him. Unimpressed with him to date.
(4) Smith - too slow, not effective enough to turn a game.
(5) Potts / Brady - probably have Brady in the 20 as we have cover on the right (Pol / Small) and Whiteman, McCann, Thompson, Moran, Lang, Devine, Dobbin centrally.
Cornell, Lindsay, Lewis, Smith and Potts would be my 5.

I'm concerned that many Canadians hate Scousers, as a matter of principle.

If that manifests itself on the pitch, we're in for some poor interaction, nothing like the Saville Wilkinson partnership we once loved.

It's two players away from the team that got absolutely anilihated by Boro 😂
In the last 4 or 5 visits to Boro, we've been twatted by 4 on 3 occasions.

Not reading too much into that game unlike the Hull (h) debacle.

I reckon he'll go with this.

Iversen starts if fit.

Iversen
Offiah Storey Gibson
Valentin Whiteman McCann Small
Dobbin Devine
Jebbo

Subs

Cornell
Vukcevic
Lindsay
Lewis
Thompson
Moran
Lang
Smith
Lukovic

I agree with that lineup.

I think he must continue with Small at LWB, he needs to keep starting him so he can learn and get better.

Games against Boro and Hull are the barometer though, and we fell well short.

There was nothing wrong with the team that he picked for Boro (aside from the fact we were missing Iversen and a very unfit Gibson). It was the tactics that caused that.
Manager taking us to one of the best possession and pressing teams in the league and trying to play a high line and playing out from the back, when we saw exactly what that did to Hull, and how the result changed in the reverse leg when Hull sat very deep was a complete failure by the coaching staff.

Was a case of going and playing to play our same game, and it wasn't the right move. I was fairly confident we'd do well against Boro, but that's because I was expecting us to play the same way in that game to what we ended up playing against Ipswich.

Thankfully they did rectify this with the game away at Ipswich and learnt the lesson the harsh way.

Lindsay or Storey? Storey was great in those 5? matches with Offiah and Hughes but dreadful with Gibson. Lindsay did well last week but you never know which Lindsay is going to turn up

Lindsay at the best is a back up yes he played well last week but honestly every-time he’s on the pitch there is a mistake waiting to happen he slows our ability to get the ball forward , as the chuckle brothers used to say to me to you to me to you . He’s best in the air but only when the ball is virtually directly to him .
We concede far too many goals from set pieces or crosses and even when he is playing we still tend to concede almost as much . I’m not blaming him totally as others are sometimes just as culpable as the Middlesborough game proved , but if we want to progress we need better than him either on the pitch or on the bench , sorry but that’s how I see it.

another factor with Lindsay us he suits certain games and style we play. At Ipswich it suited him as we played deeper so he played to his strengths while at home we are expected to play higher up and on the front foot which isn’t Lindsay’s strengths
