I like how inter-changeable the team is at the moment, take a centre back off for Humphrey or Reid and it can easily shift to a 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3 if something isn't working.

Plenty of options up front now Garner and Robinson are back.

Does Davies need a rest - he has been bouncing around like a spring lamb lately? If he does then surely Ebanks-Blake deserves a start. I certainly prefer Laird playing a bit further forward - he has maybe started to look a bit vulnerable at left-back and with Buchanan frankly alarmingly error-prone I wouldn't want to revert to a back-four until Woods is available again for the left-back slot. When he is then an alternative formation might be:

Johnstone/Stuckmann

Wiseman, Clarke, Huntington/Wright, Woods

Kilkenny/Browne, Welsh/new signing, Johnson/Laird

Gallagher/Brownhill

Any two of Davies, Garner, Beckford, Ebanks-Blake, Robinson

Lots of midfield and attacking options there, but curiously the fullback positions where we seemed to be well covered until recently now look a bit threadbare. I agree that Humphrey's lack of invention means that he should not start homes games where we need to attack though to be fair I thought he did use his pace to track back well especially in the first half against Man Utd - which is presumably why SG chose him - I still think he might make a speedy overlapping right-back.

Would go with same as you budgie. Thought Wiseman was unlucky to be dropped v Man Utd for the out of form Humphrey.

Though Wiseman is no slouch I think Humphrey was in purely to cope with the pace of Shaw on the LHS. Wiseman back in on Saturday.

Is Davies struggling with his hand then or is there something else? If it's his hand then I imagine he'll play and start up top woth Garner. Rest as per Budgies.

A 4-1-2-1-2 Formation. Gallagher with a bit of a free role covering the left.
Johnson at CAM. Wiseman and Laird, at wingback.

Positive attacking football that 😀

No to 3 centre halves at home in the league with 2 wing backs who are actually defenders therefore playing 5 defenders at home...... No.....!!

Understand your point of view, but Laird & Wiseman are both very attack minded players who could easily be classed as solid (if not tremendously skilful) wingers. They both like to get forward and score or make assists and have pace and also the capability of getting back to cover when necessary. Plenty of flair in other areas if Gallagher, Robinson & Johnson are playing.

Your suggested formation is intriguing but has no width at all.

The problem with this formation last season was that though it worked well away from home it lacked the invention needed to break down opposition teams that sat back at our place. In particular neither Humphrey nor Laird - our 'wing-backs' then - could get past their opposing fullbacks. Will it work better this time round?
Well Wiseman though not as pacy as Humphrey is probably a bit more inventive, while Laird though no faster than last season is maybe a bit more attack-minded than he was - perhaps it is just being a year further away from that leg injury. Johnson could make a difference while Gallagher is also probably a more detemined player this season than last.
A problem is that we don't really have any back-up wing-backs i.e. players with a mix of both defensive application and attacking potential - OK Humphrey for the right though with his attacking limitations but really nobody for the left unless Woods or maybe just possibly Browne could slot in, Reid's lack of defensive skills would make him a disaster in that role while Buchanan has simply never been up to it.

Was KD not Training today, due to his hand Injury or for another reason?

why do we worry about the opposition when this worked perfectly well against a team 5th in the division on their own ground ?

It comes to the way teams setup to play, at BC the onus is on them to win the game because they are at home therefore they have to push forward and force the game. 3 at the back allows us to attack and defend in numbers therefore making us less susceptible to the counter attack whilst still maintaining an attacking threat.

At home when the onus is on us to attack the opposition, many teams come here and put 5 in midfield meaning the wing backs get doubled up on therefore forcing us to play through the middle where Welsh Johnson and Gallagher have to take on their men and usually they get outnumbered because the wide men for the opposition shuffle into the middle when the ball is in the centre.

We run out of ideas very quickly and the long ball game is initiated, look at Yeovil at home this season thats a perfect example of why it doesn't work at home.

Gallagher and Robinson can go wide and Johnson get in beyond Garner...... A less static formation. The diamond of attacking talent could all score goals.

Wiseman and Laird between them don't score many and it has been shown time after time that 5 defenders is too negative and that's what they are.

Yes away against a top team, yes playing a team in the Prem but not when playing at home against teams we should be beating.
