The best keeper in the division!

The best keeper in the division!

The shit dive and lack of footwork were fuck all compared to the pathetic punch that led to the goal, fucking hell it was straight at him at chest height and the useless cunt punches it instead of taking the worlds simplest catch. I fucking despair of the hopeless twat, and people still worship him, absolutely baffling.

One of the worst keepers we've ever had, and to make it worse he thinks he's the fucking dogs bollocks.

he is a good keeper though, we all make mistakes x

Can't believe Lonergan is getting so much shit whilst the pathetic St.Ledger gets away relatively scot free.

St.Ledger was rank bad on Saturday and he couldn't give a shit about North End. Swanning off up the pitch and deciding he wanted to be an attacker. Not getting back to cover but instead leaving the left back position completely vacant. His actions were directly responsible for at least 2 of the goals that came down our left flank (Bristol's right side). OK he was out of position at left back, but that doesn't excuse the non-league naivety he displayed when going gung ho and completely forgetting to do his job. Add to that the all too familiar fuck up he made for their first goal, where he yet again failed to notice a player behind him and St.Ledger may as well not have been on the pitch on Saturday.

Rank rank bad. But he doesn't give a toss, because he knows he can swagger into another Championship club if PNE get relegated. Brown needs to take the Captaincy off him and as bad as Morgan is I'd be tempted to play him instead. At least he tries.

He isn't a good keeper and he makes these mistakes every game.

fact is, however good or bad he maybe, on saturday the mistakes were not lonergans, it was rank bad defending. The ones with personal hatred of lonergan have lost the ability to look objectively at what's happened on the pitch, this thread is the proof.

I wouldn't say there is a lack of effort from St Ledger but I agree with everything else. I'm also pretty certain the manager wasn't too impressed him either - in his interview, he not only mentioned the ridiculous first goal but the fact that defenders are paid to defend and not to go chasing the game gung ho (or words to that effect). He can only have meant golden boy.

Having said that, some of Brown's attempts at defending were laughable so when fit I presume Morgan's stock has risen somewhat over the weekend, even if only by default.

Be really honest with yourselves.... If we'd just thrashed someone four-nil with those goals, you'd all be saying what good finishing it was.

It would never cross your minds that the opposition goallie was at fault.

The simple reason for that is that the goallie was not at fault.

Just sad 😕

The 4th wasn't a bad effort but none of the other 3 were good finishes at all.

As for the bit in bold, you're clueless mate if you think he wasn't at fault for the first 2.

er.... well if you don't think that there were some good finishes in there, then it's you that's clueless ! 🙂
The second was a beautifully guided header. The 3rd goal was easy, made by W brown & their guy.. but a cool enough finish giving no chance to the keeper. 4th goal.... no defenders in sight. Thumped it hard. Sometimes you save those, sometimes you don't. Their lad finished the first one very very well too.

So... how you can describe them as not good finishes, I really can't understand (except for the obvious reason that you're trying to find any reason to slag off Lonners). First one was well finished too.

The first goal hmmm. I can't decide if there was a small amount of responsibility you can lay at Lonners' feet. Rule 1 of goalkeeping is ... if you've a defender there to deal with it... let him deal with it. SSL cocked up and has a large part of the blame. Maybe Lonners could have come out and clattered into ball and man. But it was definitely one of those that you sometimes save, sometimes don't.

Goal 1... I reckon that David James would let it in more often than not.
Goal 2... DJ would have saved it zero percent of the time.
Goal 3... Excellent save. Good positioning. No chance of controlling where the ball rebounded to. Unfortunate for it to fall to their bloke. Could not have done better.
Goal 4... Beaten by a driven shot that he'd perhaps have occasionally saved... but again, I think David James would have let it in more often than not.

I know I'm wasting my time. Some people won't admit it. If James had let those goals in, no one would have questioned his performance.

St Ledger and Browns defending is hysterical. Cant believe how awful individually and collectively our defence has become in such a relatively short time. Its not even League 2 standard.

Don't talk stupid, my sister would have caught that chest high cross that he pathetically punched for the second goal, and nobody mentioned that soft cross bouncing across the six yard box at the Kop end that two defenders watched in disbelief as Lonergan stayed rooted to his line, thankfully there was no Bristol City player that realised how shit he is that even made an effort for it, so sure were they that it was the keepers ball.

Yes, St Ledger is consistently shit lately, but he isn't praised as "the best in the division" and "worth £20,000,000" by dimwits.

James didn't let those goals in, everything that came near him, he claimed, I would say his performance was pretty flawless.

James would have dealt with the first, regardless of St Ledgers mistake.

James would have caught the cross that Lonergan punched leading up to the second with no fuss whatsoever, so the pathetic dive of Lonergans wouldn't have been an issue, having said that, James would have moved his feet and saved it, it was a tame header from distance.

Lonergan has a habit of parrying the ball back into the danger zone, as happened for goal three, harsh, but it happens all the time.

The fourth goal, any keeper would have done well to stop it.

You're wasting your time Shaky. The guy's obviously braindead. It just shows what idiots we have watching us when you hear how Lonergan is talked about despite his massive fuck ups that are now happening nearly every game. I hope PB calls his bluff and signs another keeper.

Like I said, when we go down, Mr Preston will be out of the door faster than Derek Shaw.

I dont think this thread has been about lonergans worth as a keeper or value in the transfer market, nobody seems to have argued that hes worth however many millions at all (as well they shouldnt as he is no better than alot of keepers in our league. Its been about the fact that people are burying their heads in the sand , with their fingers in their ears screaming that we wont concede goals with a new keeper. Sorry guys but everything will not be okay when lonergan is replaced.

I dont particularly rate lonergan as anything special at all, however i do know that to blame a goalkeeper for a 4 nil defeat such as saturdays and a 2 nil defeat earlier in the wekk (emphasis on the nil, lonergan isnt up front) is just complete naivity. I hesitate to blame it on personal agendas as Id like to think better of people than that.

FACT: Goal 1 would not have been scored had St Ledger not made the error in the first place.
FACT: Goal 2 would not have been scored had lonergan not made a poor punch, jones not lost his man and others left a striker un marked in the box.
FACT: Goal 3 would not have been scored had wayne brown not made an error.
FACT: Goal 4 we were caught on the break and had given up as a team.

Now people may use the argument that David James might have saved some of their goals, ( maybe Buffon and Cassillas would have, but not every team has international keepers inbetween the sticks) but saturdays defeat was not down to Lonergan anymore than anybody else on the pitch.

If you cant understand that conceding soft goals like that invites pressure and knocks confidence then what you know about football can be wrote on a postage stamp. Even if we score 1 it can be pretty certain Lonners will make a mistake and invite the pressure back on.
Have you ever played football? Do you understand the pressure that conceding a goal when your in charge of a game can bring?

you must know more than actual proffessional players then, because they rate him as a player very highly and they're playing the game now. What is your experience? 5 a side?

you can turn your arguement around so it doesnt really have any substance, if the opposition has attack after attack, eventually they will score. I will choose Phil, Brian and the player's judgement over your thanks. gkad to know your supporting your players 🙄

Were losing as a team, they're all big enough to accept that and want to turn it around, we've lost loads of senior players in the last 12 months, big changes has upset our rythm and were stuck in a rut.

Oh my god.

I cant believe your buying intot his great keeper bollox, If he was as good as our management make out, Bare in mind OUR management, Then he would be at a bigger club, When there is no replacement available for him it would be suicide for the club to come out and say Lonners is a tit and not worth his place in the team.

Not buying it, i just trust discussions and conversations, and i can see we defend poorly as a TEAM. I have also seen many good games from Lonergan, he also played a massive part in recent years. Unfortunately I cant get into peoples minds like you Mark. How do you do this?

You've seen him play good games? So have I, last one Sheff United in the first leg of the play offs three seasons ago, although I'm informed he had a good game away at Coventry this season, I wasn't there.

Brown has witnessed a keeper playing absolutely shit since he came in, in private I can't imagine him singing his praises.
