The referee

The referee

A good referee is one who doesn’t affect the game or momentum of the play. She failed in this regard. And then tried to regain control of the game by dishing out too many cards, as if that would somehow reassert authority. Not Championship standard in my opinion
They always say that the best referees are the ones that you don’t notice…..

Sounds like she failed in that respect , but she is definitely not the first ref to do that at Deepdale….

There were a few yellows she missed, Bannons foul on Browne, a late challenge on Whatmough, a rugby tackle on Millar and Mads being pulled back to prevent a break. She had no interest in stopping the timewasting , choosing to turn her back instead, I thought there was a directive to speed the game up? The bookings for Ched and Potts were hardly showing dissent and she was too far away to hear what they said, if anything. She didn’t book the Wednesday keeper when he ran 40 yards to confront her after the red card.
I thought Potts was booked for an alleged dive, even though he was clearly fouled.

The linesmen did very little to support her all evening, in particular the incident you referenced when one of them must have seen it - she was following play so it’s natural she’ll have missed the actual incident. As I’ve said elsewhere, the dissent was petulant and deservedly all got booked, I just wish more referees would do the same.

The big issue was her reluctance to take action against the time wasting, especially as the opposition were doing it and not us 😄 We were talking about it during the game because obviously most teams do it when winning away and it needs something doing about it from above, with all teams being told it’s unacceptable and being warned of what action will be taken - and carry through the threats. Their goalkeeper was spending upwards of 20 seconds with ball in hand, something that is punishable by a free kick in the area. They’d soon stop if that started happening.
Plus to that issue, there should have been about 10 minutes-plus to add-on, with their own goalie responsible for 5 of those, completely on his own.
Add to that, the 'rule' (is there?) that every new sub is allocated 30 seconds each ( whether or not they come on solo or part of a group of 3+ (How simplistic ! ) - and that adds up to ... IDK
(dunno the no of subs )
Add to that - the sending- off-time .
Add to that all those S. W. 'injury' treatments.

Seven minutes ????

I believe that's the 4th official's duty to estimate the added on time.

So that's yesterday's game's "Gang-of-four''
ALL Rubbish.

When she was giving Yellow cards out like toffees I thought obviously its for decent or language, but when Magic got one and he cant speak English then thats when the Penny dropped, shes a women and does not being shouted at.
Get rid of all women officials in a Mans game, simples, she was SHOCKING.

Someone pointed out the other night that as most blokes (players) won't want to be seen screaming in a woman's face, their anger is instead being directed at liners or the 4th official. Brad Potts in particular was doing a lot of this the other night. It seems the presence of a female ref is having this impact. I'm not sexist but I'd rather the ref in the man's game be a bloke.

There’s too much emphasis on gender here and people really showing who they are.

During the game, we wondered if the EFL do a statistical analysis of proportion of cards given by particular referees for dissent. If they find a high proportion, do they then follow this up by looking at the decision making?

FWIW I thought all the dissent cards were warranted. There’s no excuse for chasing a referee to remonstrate, or an assistant. The laws of the game are clear and I applaud any referee who clamps down on this. Players need to learn to shut up. The other thing about this game and the decisions made was that Osmajic was clearly wrong - it was a goal kick, so he got booked over a decision that was correct! (I saw the ball clearly come off a PNE player)

Made me me laugh there. Poor old Pottsy being denied a proper opportunity of abusing the ref by fielding a woman. Surely that would be good case for making all the officials women, not vice versa.

Generally she didnt award cheap free kicks for falling over at slight contact like most refs do and the players werent used to it. Its bollocks to claim she was whistle happy and stopped the flow. What flow anyway? The one running across our back 4. She booked players at the point where we were running out of time and mouthing off to try to influence her.

People showing who they are ?????? do you mean football fans that can see the ref was shit, not arsed about her being a female with an ego, just want a fair ref that doesn't get up set when challenged on a wrong decision, simples

She didnt appear upset. The players appeared upset. You appear to be upset. You seem to think players have a right to appeal robustly against a decision, even when its correct. This aint cricket.

Evans wasn’t cautioned, their keeper was for a combination of the incident you mention and time wasting. Osmajic chased after her showing clear dissent and Potts was jumping up and down in front of the linesman - both totally justified cautions.
Sorry I meant Osmajic, not Evans.
potts was running to take the throw in with his arms out, hardly jumping up and down

And you can't write English.

BTW, your sexist attitude stinks.

at least she was a woman who knew the offside rule 😜 . Let's not blame the referee for the tactics and failure to score, It's everybody else's fault according to some/many on here

granted the tactics and performance was shocking but if on top of that the ref is missing easy to spot corners and blatant yellow cards missed and not spotting fouls then it just hinders our chance of getting a result and that goes for Men and women refs, it just so happens she was under the spot light and performed rubbish in my eyes, and like others have said it ticks a box but not for me going forward, simples.

Point was, he still dished out the abuse, only to someone who hadn't even made the decision.

They shouldn't be screaming in anyone's face and they will just have to get used to women officials. Definitely a them problem.
