Thor

Thor

So this season we have signed 2 overseas players in Thor and Okkels but they need probably a season to adjust and even then it’s 50/50 if they are good enough…add that to the lack of defensive cover then our squad is paper thin and it’s amazing wot Hecky has managed to get out of the team so far….when we lost Browne we should have replaced him with a proven championship player or even a decent league 1 prospect…would be deifferent if we had a bigger squad but we don’t.
A decent league 1 prospect you still have the same problems… takes a year to adjust at least, still might not be good enough etc.

It’s not like we have signed some shit cast off. Thor is part of the Iceland squad plus played a part in beating England 1-0 a few months ago.

Okkles js a different matter as we wasted the majority of our budget on a player we didn’t need whilst we had no manager.

Nobody said that.

However what people did say he can do a good job for us and looks a good replacement.

Why people need to lie is beyond me.
I bet a few did, probably not too many, but it's a bit definitive to say nobody did.
He has though, a fair way to go to be anywhere near the Player, in respect of effectiveness on the pitch, as AB.
Irrespective of there individual skill levels.

I agree he does have a long way to go. We are comparing 10 games to 400. But it’s only 10
Bloody games so those writing him off after ten games are pathetic imo (and quite a few of them aren’t even starts.)

Garner had similar thrown at him after his first ten games if I remember rightly.

Ben Davies after one.

I remember people saying Mads looked shit in his first season here. It’s a difficult role, in one of the most competitive divisions in the world. Give the lad a chance.

TBF more people rated Mads early on than do Thor.
Mads has and showed early on, more about him, more presence, swagger and confidence.
Thor shows some of the attributes but definitely has a way to go yet.
Mads wasn't and still isn't perfect in respect of adjusting to the Championship but i think he showed the signs earlier than Thor has, that he knows where he needs to get too.
However, as you say give the lad a proper chance to adjust, as long as he acknowledges that he needs too.
Way too early to write him off but he needs to add a lot more energy and effort to his game to thrive in the Championship.

Depends where we're at fitness wise come January, but wouldn't be averse to seeing a league one loan for a few months.
Behind Mads and Greenwood in the advanced midfield positions, and Whiteman, McCann and Ledson in the deeper midfield positions.
Seems a long way off in his fleeting appearances, and not sure he'll get there with a few sub appearances here and there.

Yes, i know what you mean.
I remember arguing and defending Tony Ellis when he first came because he was missing chances, even though he had got himself into those positions, then he became an icon (always is to me) when he started putting them away.
You should never judge a Player too soon, either negatively or even positively.
Certainly not with the fees we pay for Players. We are certainly not in the position of signing cast iron guarantees.

Hope he settles into the league and becomes a success for us.
At least I don’t have to read Thor for captain posts after 3 games for the club now.
We need a much bigger sample of games to see what he can really do for us but he looks well out of form currently.

It’s far too early to write him off.

I think the problem is that he just doesn’t have a recognisable role in our system. McCann, you know what he offers; he’s everywhere and offers a little of everything. Mads, when he’s on it you know he’s going to be a big source of creativity. Whiteman/Ledson are the holding players that can also get forward when called upon.

Where do we fit Thor into that without changing the way we play? My guess would be in more of the Mads/Greenwood playmaker role(s), but again he’s not shown enough to solidify that as the best option for him.

Now I know we’re likely to be more adaptable under this new management than we were under Lowe, but I wouldn’t take out any of the players we had in midfield yesterday, which doesn’t help the situation. Plymouth were a mess at the back but still, we should have scored at least 5 or 6 and we set up incredibly well going forward.

First half against Cov I think Thor looked great. He was in the right place at the right time to nod down for Riis in one of the chances we didn’t score, but he’s not had too many other standout moments so far.

He’s definitely the player I’m most interested to see Hecky and McCall try to “mould” or nurture.

Anyone could see from his first few touches that Mads has massive natural ability.

I still think Thor will come good, but it’s just galling that if we had a semi-competent CEO, Lowe would have been long gone and Alan Browne would be on his way to a record number of appearances. 😤

Why people need to lie is beyond me.

Why you need to accuse people of lies is beyond me when you do not know what people who sit around me have said. Many thought Browne overrated and some thought him poor and that Thordason was a better player, presumably based on a selection of YouTube clips.

I’ve seen enough upside to think he will be decent. Pre his illness he’d started really well, just looks a little slow to react and sloppy in possession at the moment.

I don’t think it’s a case of not being able to fit him into the side. We’ve seen flashes of him carrying the ball from deep, getting shots off and creating chances. That type of player easily fits into any side. Especially one playing a box central midfield.

The fit is fine, it’s just the form he needs to sort. Been poor since Millwall

Agree - Thordarson obviously has skill but he needs more first team action to get up to speed. Given that the injury Brady got yesterday looks like one that will keep him out for a while then maybe he will get more opportunity as indeed might Okkels.
