We have become a very dull football club

We have become a very dull football club

A reset won't happen though if we get relegated to League one, yes all the OoC players will have left.
They won't though be replaced with anything any better, the budget will be massively reduced and we will be shopping in the bargain basement without bargains, lower league freebies will be the main bread and butter players
There will be no investment from the IOM to nurture players from the academy, there will be even less money available.
Yes PR will probably leave, take retirement with a golden hand shake, off to warmer climates to spend his "hard earned" gains from his PNE tenure.
Don't expect any charismatic, inspirational replacement, it will be a "Yes Man" to minimise expenditure and losses and nothing more.
Those in the IOM happy with the huge reduction in costs and the minimal amount required to keep North End breathing.☹️🥴😡
Wow - so apart from Ridsdale leaving, you think basically nothing will change?

Still, I'd happily take that. Bring it on.

I just don't imagine there being any investment from the present regime, just cost cutting.
I'm not sure that relegation and then attempting to keep our head above water and stop us going down the plug hole to the division below would attract any new investors.🥴🤔

I have seen zero direct benefit to Preston North End of Ridsdale being on the EFL board.
Having knowledge of other Championship clubs' accounts long before they are published - because clubs have to submit them to the EFL for FFP assessments - means he was able to precisely rank us in relation to other clubs during his summer bloviating, which isn't possible using publicly-available information alone.

That sort of information could be useful to a club owner who wants to efficiently calibrate their lowball budget at e.g. 22nd in the league.

I think you're missing the bit about relegation being inevitable under the current owners. Inevitable.

Of course they're going to stifle investment and cost-cut wherever they can - that's what they do.

But they aren't going to attract any new investors at their inflated Championship asking price, so maybe they need to be encouraged, through relegation, to give a more realistic L1 asking price a try.

Agree that whether it is this season or next with the current regime and PR at the help wasting the funds available we are heading in only one direction.
I just don't see them making and more efforts than they do now ( none) to encourage new investors.☹️😡

When the ownership is doing the bare minimum to keep this club competitive at championship level it has a drip drip effect down to the playing staff. If they aren't motivated to go the extra mile season in season out to get the club into the top six why should the players as it's a very comfortable existence for many of them who are borderline championship players in the first place.
Here lies much of the problem. A bunch of journeymen above where they probably should be who can't believe their luck to be on decent money to do any more than stay in this division. I have loved this club 45 years and counting and have got to the point where I want the Hemmings to go if they don't want to progress the club. If it means several years of lower division shit then so be it. The City of Preston deserves a Premier League club and will always get behind owners that have aspiration to get there.

Who was the number 9 there, Moult?

Think a bit of soul left when Gally left. He was a great link between knowing what it meant to play here with his experience on the coaching staff.

Not saying bring him back but it's important to have someone like that around the team or on the coaching staff.

Yeah, that's Moult.

Yes I like and back Hecky. But if he's as good as we hope he is he needs to get a tune out of this failing squad. A squad who are painfully low on belief. We've seen this play-safe slump with every manager.
Which leads us to the question - why does every manager we employ get us to play this play-safe style we’re we lump it forward. We have signed a bunch of cloggers.

The fact we haven’t even tried to improve the defence for almost 4 years is an utter disgrace. The fact our only permanent full back signing since 2019 has been Brady and is he even a full back.

It’s s bloody disgrace. Yes hecky got his line up wrong on Saturday but imo he will be gone by the end of the season. Not because he will be sacked. He will leave because he will realise that any promises that were made when he was appointed are just lies.

No manager in the history of football can get this squad playing good football successfully.!

To be fair Frokjear had only trained on Friday after an injury at Portsmouth. I am staying with Heckingbottom and McCall because they are stuck with players that were chosen by the mad controller and Lowe and it was even evident to Lowe what a pigs ear they had assembled hence he cleared off sharpish. So I think it’s unfair to judge them until they get some help with squad renewals because they inherited a pile of blunt dull tools to do a job.
In lowe’s defence these players weren’t even signed by him.

On Saturday we had two loan players playing. Our best two players on the day.

Whatmough and woodman were signed by Lowe.

The rest (7 players!) have been here since 2021 some even longer.

It's very difficult to properly scout defenders solely via data and video clips, that's the problem. We have the defence that Alex Neil brought in because we had Joe Savage and people going to games watching them regularly before bringing them in AS WELL AS starting to use more data, whereas now we have a graph and data to show Whatmough did a lot of headers, made a load of blocks, and his "forward passing" was good (oh, and was free), when the reality is that he was a League One player, in a League One team getting battered every week in the Championship for a season, playing League One hoofball and he was the one launching it forward. And he was free.

You ever looked in the estate agents and see the houses for sale? There’s always one that’s been on the market way longer than the others. Mainly because the owners are asking too much and aren’t hugely interested in selling.

Many years ago, we were looking for our first house and thought we’d found an ideal one. The bloke showed us around and pointed out many faults with the house, almost as if he didn’t want us to buy it and we thought the whole thing was strange and obviously didn’t take it any further,

It later turned out his wife wanted a divorce and he’d obviously be out if the house got sold. She didn’t know he was doing this with prospective buyers.

Obviously nobody would do this with a football club.

Ridsdale knowledgably advised us all a year ago that "just about every Premier League club" has a desso pitch, and "some clubs in the Championship will have it, particularly if they've been in the Premier League". He failed to mention they all have it, except for us.

Just like the academy dome, it's painted as if it's a luxury that only the Prem super-rich can enjoy:

PR: "it's aspirational. If we got to the Premier League, I think we'd do it anyway".

Ridsdale also informed us a few months ago it would cost £1m to install desso, and a further £500k for undersoil heating - and such a king's ransom for our pauperish owners means "we have plans, as soon as possible, and it’s probably going to be next summer now [...] we’ve only got so much money and I’m currently choosing to use that to strengthen the squad".

Do you want a desso pitch with undersoil heating or a Jeppe Okkels?

A reminder that, unlike Jeppe Okkels, the pitch is not FFP-relevant. The only thing holding back the investment - they've been kicking the desso can down the road since at least 2022 - is the tiny size of our Isle of Man budget.

We are built for League 1.
Which given we have "only got so much money and I’m currently choosing to use that to strengthen the squad", then with a dozen or so OoC Players next summer, you can safely say that there will be no pitch upgrade next summer (or any summer!) either.
