What would you like our team to be next season ( Realistically) ?

What would you like our team to be next season ( Realistically) ?

Westley wants to hear the fans views so i might write him a letter and tell him who the fans would like to see next season. and pop it on his window.

Was it not wage related?

Not too sure on that mate. Just depends who you believe I suppose.

Some fans made fun of us by saying Fleetwood could afford his wages but we couldn't but whether that was the truth or a bit of banter, I've no idea. The fact is Fleetwood took the gamble and as a result have a very sought after player, and one that would probably have had us in the top 6. A big mistake on our part, but not as big as the Charlie Adam one!

True, but worth remembering different players do different things for different teams.

Not that I wouldnt happily have had Adam and Vardy.

Cox and Beavon are the most realistic Beavon because Wycombe will go down and I don't think the other "Big Teams" in the division will sign in, Cox will be a bit more difficult because Orient are climbing up the league but PNE is a far bigger club, it is whether we can offer them better wages and a good price. Beavon is the most likely.

Thirteen points from last six games make them one of the form teams and gives them every chance of staying up.

GW wants a squad of no more than 23 players next year. Of those currently on our books who I think he will definitely want to keep are Stuckmann, Robertson, Devine, Morgan, Barton, Mayor, Procter, Miller, Holroyd, Cummins, Hume, McLaughlin, Wright, Parry and Mellor. That is 15 players and gives him scope to bring 8 players in.

Of those 15, Devine, Miller, Parry and Mellor are out of contract and they will only re-sign if acceptable terms are offered.

Of those not on the above list, most are out of contract but not Coutts, Russell, Nicholson, Daley, McLean and Tsoumou. Coutts will probably be sold but the others will have to be persuaded to move on. If they don't, GW won't be able to bring in as many as 8 new players.

PNE FAN on Boro Chat asked their fans if they think Westley will be in for any of their players: -

Their replies were:

Patrick Agyemang is highly recommended. Not a Westley signing originally but a talent.

My take on it is that they fell a little bit betrayed by Westley, so personally cant see any going. But you never know! i have a feeling Westley will want Laird, Bostwick and Freeman but cant see them leaving, in my personal opinion!

Westley will definitely be in for some players. There's a few apparently not contracted next season. There's a few that will only move to a higher level and a few that wouldn't move at all. What players fall into each category, I don't know really so hardly a helpful response I'm afraid. There was plenty of rumours of certain players having big fall outs with Westley because of his move - I'd expect a lot down to the fact he'd never let a player make the same move (transfer to worse postioned team).

Difficult to say to be honest, depends where we are and who else come sin for them. I guess you would like Bostwick, if so i suspect you will be competing with championship teams for him.

Laird was linked to Millwall and is out of contract at end of season. The problem i see your going to have is the very first thing Roberts changed almost first match he was caretaker manager and that is freedom to express themselves as players. Westley's management style whilst here was very restrictive on individuality, i think our current players are starting to grow out of that and come into thier own. So a lot depends on wheather Westley has changed that about his team ethic / management style if not then i dont see any of them going to play for you..

Joel Byrom has come into his own this year, he has been a brilliant ball playing midfielder for us. Quality player so under rated. would be good for you but cant see him leaving!

Joel is the one player I wouldn't be surprised to see join PNE.

Bossie won't go to PNE fact... 🙂

The fact is Stevenage fans know as much or little about their players as we do about ours.

To say Bossie won't join PNE...fact🙂 is just someones opinion. Don't forget, we are going to the Premier League so he might just want to hop on the bus.

Don't know why the OP has linked us with the likes of Wordsworth, we can;t afford players like that!

We didn't sign him because the previous Chairman wouldn't support the Manager.

We won't be able to sign him now as he is in the 7 figure bracket.

We may be able to sign someone similar. One thing about Westley, when he assesses the strength of the opposition he seems to do a thorough job, so I'm sure he has some 'stella' signings up his sleeve.

I'm sorry mate but there is no way a non-league player is going to be sold for a million squid. Or did you mean 6? If so, I agree. Whatever he might be worth, he's out of our price range now.

Fleetwood turned down a Million for him in the January Window.

fleetwood apparently turned down million pound bids from championship sides so i would say that 7 figures is the correct statement

My retained list from those players who have squad numbers, assuming we could get rid of the others who have remaining time on their contracts would be

Stuckman,
Robertson,
Hume,
Jamie Proctor,
Barton (Depends how long he will be out for),
Mayor (just),
Parry (if cheap enough which may be likely given his age),
Devine,
Clucas,
Bailey Wright,
Miller,
Middleton,
Andrew Procter,
Cummins,
Zibaka,
Holdroyd,
McLaughlin (if fit)

This would leave us needing about 7 more players ( including a Goalkeeper, Right Back, Left Back, Defensive Centre Mid, Striker, Winger).

Wouldn't expect Mellor to reduce his wages enough, and think we could get money for Coutts who while I think he is skilful, I'm not convinced that he fits into a winning team
