Best not to get excited over a few games but it's hard to ignore how much he's stepped up against Leicester and Ipswich
Absolutely. He’s been excellent in both games and obviously we all hope it continues but no revisionism from me - he was still awful for way too long.

Threw himself in front of everything today it seemed (3 blocked shots, most in the side). Was a backs to the wall job today but Whiteman stood out for me, a proper performance.

Glad he seems to be turning the corner that the likes of Potts and Brady have had to in the past.

Said on the Match Day thread, every credit to Ben because I have been very critical of him, as have a lot of us.

However, one dodgy pass aside I think it was his best game for us. Having Devine and Ali alongside him is doing him the world of good to.

Long may it continue.

Thought Storey and Valentin also had stand out performances, however it was a great team performance long may they continue.

Glad to see that Whiteman has at last stepped up to something like his best, undoubtably his form so far is much improved on the whole of last year & before.
Not quite seeing why posters are waxing so lyrical about him, other than making a comparison between his dire performances of recent Seasons and being much better so far.
However glad to see that he's making much more of a positive contribution and playing well, even if not quite the maestro some are making him out to be. Long may it continue though.

I thought he was excellent against Leicester.

Not sure I'd class him as that today, however today was about digging deep and doing what was necessary. Of which he did.
He was excellent today Simon in my opinion, just in a different way. He lead today, he did the shitty jobs and he did them very well indeed, not as pretty I grant you, but for sure, just as important.

I've been critical of Whiteman, although also defended him against others who seemed to think he offers absolutely nothing, but he's been great so far.

Played well in the 2nd half against QPR. Good against Barrow when he came on, although that is only Barrow and it suited him, as he always did well when he had plenty of space. But a stellar performance against Leicester as he controlled the game, and a gritty one yesterday against Ipswich. Captain performances too. Really been leading the team. Love to see it and hope it continues.

I'm still not convinced. Yes he's improved but from a very low base, Yes he put his body on the line and made some important blocks and tackles, and every credit to him for that. However, he made more than one dodgy pass yesterday. To me he still looks uncomfortable on the ball and his thought process seems so painfully slow that he gets caught in possession way too often. Still some way to go for me.

I’ve just watched the highlights and that backed up my assertion that there were a couple of dodgy moments when he was bailed out by others. However, I suppose you can probably say the same about virtually every player in every game.

Overall he played very well but so did every player in their own way.

I think we're seeing confirmation bias at play, here. You know, where you home in on information that supports your original opinion.

It's why none of the Storey haters have the courage to acknowledge his deserved MOM performance yesterday.

Personally, I love nothing more for a player to prove me wrong. Whiteman is doing that this season.

He wasn't perfect yesterday. Not even close. But his form, leadership, aggression, and (never thought I'd say this) attacking mindset has transformed him. He is a real asset to the team.

I almost mentioned Storey, he was excellent yesterday. I think everyone has players they favour or dislike for whatever reason and it’s human nature to try and defend a particular viewpoint - sometimes against the evidence.

The top and bottom of it is Whiteman has played well in both home games - and was also pretty poor for much of the last two seasons. Admitting both shouldn’t be an issue, him playing well shouldn’t be a gotcha moment for clever people to have a dig at fellow supporters and vice versa when Storey plays poorly.

To be fair whiteman made a comment yesterday saying it was his first pre season in three years.

He is stepping up and was brilliant yesterday.

Both Storey and Whiteman look slimmer and half a yard quicker to me compared to last season. Fitness, injury-free, commitment or all three?
