So were Grimshaw, Pringle, Ledson, Harrop & Bayliss.
It's literally every player we've had except Osmajic. We shouldn't be afraid of making transfers because bad ones have happened in the past. We've shown before that it's possible to get better bang for your buck.
He's a decent player, who we will need to play during the season when our starting pair either get injured or need rotating.

We actually have good depth in midfield, why on earth would we damage that position just because fans unfairly blame him for our underperformance on the pitch
The problem is we're going into January with no/very little money to spend and we're also in a relegation battle. We don't have many players who we can sell that we can get a decent fee for. We have positions we need to fill. Someone will have to go in January if want to bring people in and, for what Whiteman has offered for his entire time with us, I actually think he's reasonably replaceable.

It doesn't have to be him that goes in January but if not him, then who? If we sell someone whose contract is up at the end of the season, the best we can hope for is enough money to replace them directly. Selling someone like Whiteman offers us the chance to replace him with possibly two players. Plus, with us being in a relegation battle, we can't afford carry players who are underperforming just because they were good a few seasons ago.

He use to play link breaking passes when he first signed and when he was at Doncaster. It's been coached out of him and some time out of the side might help rejuvenate him.

Why did we not take up the interest from Fulham two seasons ago and cash out? We tend to hold on too long to our players. In my eyes, we should always look to trade. It's extra income.

I just feel he kills the tempo of the game. When he receives the ball, he is stood still, too often he is facing his own goal. Once receiving, rarely does he turn and run with the ball. Too many touches, too many passes backwards without an attempt to turn and drive forward. For me, he contributes significantly to a style of play I would like to see the back of. Half decent footballer struggling to adapt after a couple of seasons of Loweball.

100% this - no flow or forward momentum.
On the odd occassion I dont watch on the dodgy stick (like yesterday) and actually turn up - Whiteman playing makes the game so dull and boring that I wish I hadnt bothered. We seem so much more positive without him.
I get it that Hecklefish had a game plan and Whiteman was part of this - he got the 3 points but fuck it was boring and i wish I hadnt wasted £30. I'd rather see football with a bit of action and fluidity.

I just think McCann does the defensive role better, like you say the football is dull, and I think PH feels he needs 2 in there in certain games because he doesn’t have the faith in the defence. Given offensively we are also lob sided, we could do with 2 KKH. Predictable and dull is not a great combination. Osmagic is the only part of the the team that breaks the current mould. I do however have a feeling PH will get it right. I am hopeful that with similar backing to what Lowe got, PH will get us a more balanced and fluid side. Hopefully he gets us there soon as I feel the championship is the poorest it has been for a while.

Without any statistical backup, I just saw Whiteman and McCann doing 2 essentially similar roles, but with McCann bossing the show, making critical tackles, running like a steam train and stamping himself on the game, and Whiteman relatively invisible, doing very little of these things.

Would he make a centre half? Serious question.

He’s got the physique but he’s slow on the turn and often caught flat footed, so as soon as someone with pace or a trick runs at him he’s gone.

I do go on about him a fair bit but I watched him quite closely to see if I could spot what others see in him. I couldn’t. There was the odd good pass to a colleague in space that he did well to spot but his movement after making a pass was poor, his first thought seems to be play it early to a centre half and his set pieces were as bad as ever. Thordarson adds so much more to the team.

I noticed yesterday after much criticism on his motivational and leadership qualities he spent a good deal of the game yesterday waving his hands around, clapping and generally giving encouragement. Its something I never seen much from him previously.

Good to see he’s taken some things onboard however it doesn’t make up from the negative play and McCann having to rescue him time and time again.

I've been critical of him all season and beyond really. I've nothing at all against the lad, but he just frustrates me to watch.

He is capable of so much more I feel. I don't think its a lack of effort, maybe he is scared stiff of losing the ball which makes him naturally sit deep and look for the safe option.

At one point yesterday, the ball was played down the line and Frokjaer did a brilliant little flick round the corner and for once Whiteman had moved forward and was in the right place to play a good pass down the line in front of Mads, it was a great move but one that wouldn't have happened had he still been in his usual place stood two yards in front of the centre halves. Hopefully Hecky can spot things like this and improve him because the talent is there.

McCann is streets ahead of him at the moment but if you had to choose McCann or Whiteman to receive the ball on the edge of the oppositions box you'd choose Whiteman all day.

Someone was saying last night that they'd heard Ben is out for maybe 3 months. Are there any firm whispers?
