Why do we need another Manager?

Why do we need another Manager?

The only guarantee with Davies is that he will leave us again and will not go quietly.
Remember his loyalty as took everything and ruined the following seasons efforts.
He inherited a good side/club was well paid but has gone.
Don't look back move on.

I would point out that any manager that has been any good for Pne has always gone onto a bigger club, most recently Davies and Moyes. That's the natural thing to do in order to better or prove to yourself that you can do it at a higher level.
So if Davies came back and was successful at Pne then of course he would leave again. Good players dont stay so what makes managers any different?

I would prefer Davies as I think he would work a small miracle this season. I am not blind to the fact that in order to get him his demands would cost in monetary terms, but in my opinion Davies, if given the desired backing, would get this club into the Premier League within 3 years and keep up there. The question is, does Trevor want to gamble another shed load of cash on bringing success to Pne or be happy just to let it tick over till a buyer can be found? In which case he'll lose most of his money anyway.

If Davies or a manager of similar calibre cannot be afforded then Grezza and Unsworth should carry on with our full backing.

Excellent post and unfortunately if the latter is the preferred option, it tells us clearly the future direction/ambition of the club, the next managerial appointment is therefore critical to the future of our beloved club!

Just asking the question like. Its a shit divsion in my view no matter what Phil brown said yes i havent seen
Sheff Wed yet but if MK Dons are suppose to be the all singing all dancing club is this divsion and weve just beaten them on their own patch then who have we to fear?

For me play offs are nailed on,all we have to is keep to a bog standard 4-4-2 and weres the problem. You don't need the likes of Bily Davis, Dave Jones Garath Southgates in this divsion. The lads are happy,we have enough quality, all we needed
was somebody to make them all feel valued and get them back to enjoying their football days and then you were on to
a winner. Its not rocket scienmce even though our last manger tried to make it more complicated than it neede to be.

I heard the PNE changing rooms from were i was sat on Saturday and trsut me it was rocking, i was delivering down at the traing ground and trust me the session was electric. I spoke to Mells and he said " if we leave it as it is we will be in the play-offs. Unsworth said its not about me, or the neil mellors of this world its about you guys that pay to watch us and follow us and down the country" Grezza said, "after i thanked him for coming over to the fans on Saturday, "were all in this together" and before you give me shit about asking them question they actually ask me to come in for a brew with them. Do we really want to changed that and stop us being togther as one again. We don't need egos any more. We have two lads in charge who value us as fans. Its not about them as they have said its about Preston North End and i'll drink to that.

If i was the cahirman i would actually have gone in the changing rooms after the game and told the players;"see these two guys well their in charge till the end of the season andif you get into the play-offs they will be in charge next season as well. Can you imagine the feel good factor in those changging rooms if they had said that. The roof would have lifted off

But they still have the chance to say that to them and if they do we will walk into a play off position in my view and with a bit of luck be back in the championship next season.

Thats is a course what i would do but that is just MY VIEW

Whilst I agree with you on one hand I disagree with you (as per) on the other.

You cannot deny that the win against MK Dons was put down to sheer team spirit and grit. This came in the form of playing for the physio's recently departed father, playing for Alexander and Unsworth, the fans and the fact we were on TV in front of a watching nation. The players were played in the right positions, we rode our luck at times, MK Dons had an off day and although we were battered in terms of possession we stayed strong and managed to hold out.

That said, the majority of those factors wont really apply, or be as strong come the next game at home to Carlisle no matter what anyone thinks. We should still be up for the game as with any other game, but the other factors that helped guide us over the line on saturday wont be repeated.

I think you underestimate this league, Charlton, Huddersfield, Sheff Wed, Sheff Utd and MK Dons still on their day are going to be challenging at the top of the league come the end of the season. There are only 6 places to be in contention for promotion and thats five teams I have mentioned.

I have mentioned in another thread that I dont envy the task Ridsdale has in appointing a new manager. We need to appoint someone who is going to last longer than 12 months. When you put it like that you wouldnt possibly think that Billy Davies is the ideal candidate as he will be looking for the bigger buck and better opportunity if he has the slightest glimpse of success here.

Obviously if Unsworth and Alexander do well then you'd think the ship would be relatively safe in their hands, they have some affection for the club and there might be some longevity in it. On the other hand they have no managerial experience.

Its a very tough call.

If the player want Unsworth and Alexander to get the job as badly as Surf says they do they will beat Carlisle.

If they don't they won't.

We'll find out on Boxing Day.

Exactly. Don't see any harm in at least giving them the next 2 or 3 games. If the performances are as committed as the one at MK,and results are favourable, then they should get the job til the end of the season.

Performance at MK was very good. Committed, disciplined and we had the more clear cut chances. To not give the caretakers a few games would be crazy. ANY appointment bar Wenger, Mourinho or AVB will be risky. After Billy's poor effort at Forest with significant resources not even sure about him.

If we give the job to the caretakers the message is loud and clear.

Same old Preston doing it on the cheap.

We got lucky with Moyes and Davies, they were both the easiest option. We couldn't possibly be that lucky again, and after seeing the game on Saturday I would say that's for sure.

Saturdays result allthough gritty hard earned call it what you like was also fortunate,it was a start no more. The caretakers played the right formation and the players in their rightfull positions something we all had been calling for (no genious at work there)the players had the feelgood factor that Brown had been sent packing and that two of their own were in charge. Give them the job permanently and that novelty will soon disappear and then we will see how good they are, they may have what it takes, but the odds are not good.
As for the comment that we can walk to the play offs laughable, against MK we hardly had the ball for vast periods of the game we were completely dominated also several players hardly touched the ball most of the match, this has been the case all season so for me. A couple of positives no more.

On the other hand , Brown and Horton wouldn't have been cheap and they were fucking useless .

How do you propose not being the "same old Preston"? Because from what I can see we have a very strong need to do things the most efficient way and throwing money at things does not work.

I guess the answer will be "If DS/Irvine..." well that has happened so we now need to look at the situation we are in and unfortunately we are still PNE (well unfortunatelyif you only believe in measuring in money spent)

After reading what Ridsdale said on RL this morning I don't think it matters what the results of the next few games are - it's just a matter of who, between Alexander and Unsworth, is manager and who will be assistant. Ridsdale has already made his mind up I believe as this is the only viable option - financially. Ridsdale and Hemmings only want to cut expenditure regardless of what the fans think or what the costs is to our league position. Maybe we should have a quick 'whip round' to get fans paying some of Humes wages to at least limit the damage being done by the organ grinder and his new monkey.

I, for one, do not believe that Grezza and Unsworth have been given the job. Why bother inviting applications and conducting interviews if that was the case.
However I do think that they may have been given several games to impress the owner and directors, who may decide that they're worth a gamble. Which means any candidate that would or might be deemed suitable for the job may have to wait a while longer to see if their application has been successful.
Personally I think they have got their man, but are trying to put together a package that suits all parties and is in the best interest of the club. It's also my belief that that man is Davies, but after the Rovers game last night, Davies might now be looking at them for his next post. If that were to be the case then Ridsdale should break off all negotiations with Davies and then appoint Grezza and Unsworth or another good manager would be Dave Jones.
A lot has been said about Jones and most of it is rubbish. He is a very good coach and an ability to manage. A rare thing in modern football.

Give them the next few games and see what happens weve got nothing to lose , but to suggest this division is crap is just tripe and probably the same thinking that put us in this mess now , never underestimate your opposition its foolish .

Big Sam no let's get a big name in.

David Moyes no cheap option it was said not experince enough was the other comments

Billy Davis should gave been sacked with Brown was the general comment.

Do you a pattern building up all lads about the same age as unsworth and grezza and all came.from withi and all went on to do the business.

Huddersfuel are nothing without Rhodes. Charlton we will batter them at ours. all they are are 442 with a quality striker up front we can more than match that.

Had we appointed Big Sam - with no guarantee of success despite his career to date - then there would have been no David Moyes - FACT! Think it all through before you type!!
