Life just keeps on kicking me down, the latest is losing my Little Star. I know she was only a Cockatiel, but she was my support Bird. Being laid by 2 Rescue's Lou and Lola, back in 2013, she was disowned in the final day in the Egg. I had to learn a lot of stuff very quickly. Egg assist hatching is risky, but I did it and for the first few hours, Mum and Dad looked after her. But sadly she stopped breathing and I hand to learn Bird CPR on the go and on a very small chick. I got her breathing again, but 12 hours later she stopped again and I had another go. and it happen again. The 3rd time I got her breathing worked and I had to take over feeding. Although Mum would feed her every now and then, it was not enough. I had to be there every 2 hours without fail for 12 weeks. getting up at 1 am, 3am, 5 am etc, making fresh hemp (egg miz), and feeding.
This created a bound that meant no matter where I was, Star would come and find me. When I took Delwyn in, this changed a little, but she would always spend a hour or 2 on my shoulder, was a regular on the Matchday without you guys knowing. Well wednesday I noticed something wasn't right, but no Vet would see her and no Avian Vet on. Spending 2 nights with no sleep with her, keeping her company, hand feeding again, waiting for the Vet to ring (non available every time I called) Yesterday evening she Gave up eating, just refused, but cuddled up to me for 9 hours. Sadly at 3.36 this morning her heart stopped, it was over.No final goodbye, nothing. However at 3.47am she moved I was so over joyed, hoping it meant she would make it to the morning for a Vet. Sadly not, She climbed up, her heart was weak and she cuddled in with the final goodbye. at 4:04 she was properly gone.
I don't want to take my meds, or eat or drink, Just want to tell people the reason for the last 13 years has gone, my support Bird no longer there. I have to make a decision on the other Rescue's Vinnie, Rio, Bluey and the Cockatiels Delwyn, Lou, Nibbles, Pippa (1% Chance of Survival and still here 9 years on) and Dominic and Finchey Jr (Zebra Finch). Because I can not take this shote no more, it hurts because they go so fast, no warning, no time to prepare. I also don't think I am the right person to take them forward. I done the hard work of getting them used to Humans and Hads again (Apart from Delwyn). But not having the Money to travel 50 Miles to get an Avian Vet has proved, I am not the right person. Also I clearly didn't see the signs she was unwell sooner and I can't forgive myself that. I just been wrapped up in Football and stuff.
So with that, I am taking a step back from everything, weighing up my options. Putting the Birds first. Need to decide, Go on and hope that these last Rescues (Defo not taking in anymore) live a lot longer or if they'd be best elsewhere, with someone that has access to a Car and ready cash to get them treatment no matter how far they have to travel. Or offering them to a Bird Zoo and hope they get a better life. I failed Star. So for now, I will just reading on here, Football and PNE is going to take a back seat whilst I decide and decide what the future holds for me, because it just looks like pain and heart break. This one has beat me down to worthless, 30 Rescue's of varying disabilities, 4 (1 by me) Raised Cockatiels, 9 Zebra Finches) in over 17 years. This last 5 years so many have succumb to Disabilities or old Age, Something I should of Factored in. Delwyn is always going to be very risky, he has surprised all the Vets he's seen, but he is high risk due to injuries. Vinnie is fast recovering, and the rest should be OK to be rehomed, Although Finchy Jr is 13, life expectancy is 5-10 years, he's 2 years off the Max they should live, but unofficially his dad was 17-19 when passed away (When found, Vet Said he was about 10 via DNA Testing and we had him 9 years).
Sorry what a rant, but I will be able to come and read what I have put when I have a clearer head and ready to face the decisions. But for now, I will just be reading until I decide the future and I may come back next season to do matchday, the reason I started to post this, ramble over. Takecare all.
